I have profile fields setup for the registration form. I’ve included a field for the user to choose which groups they’d like to join on signup. However, it doesn’t seem to be mapped(?) to the Groups I have created since the user isn’t added to the group(s) they select in the form. I’ve seen this work on other sites but not sure what I’m missing. I also can’t add them to groups in the user > extended profile either. Any ideas?

    Hi!

I have a WordPress website with the theme Jannah. It is compatible with both BuddyPress and BBPress which I use for forums.

I have just now installed BuddyPress, and I think it looks great. It gives me all the features that I’m looking for, for my small community.

However, there is something that annoys me. It is the “name” field. It appears automatically in the registration page, and of course on the edit user page.

How can I get rid of this field? Basically I would just like to have these as required fields:

    – Username
    – Email
    – Password

    Thanks

    Hello

I am using buddypress Version 12.5.0. I am not a developer but I know how to add code to the functions.php file or code snippets plugin and add CSS.

I have discovered that when a user registers for my site with the Buddypress registration form, the conformational email has the surname in the “to” field but the first name in the email body so it looks like this: https://ibb.co/pyPGFS5

I created a test user with the following names:
For the username, I called it “Username2”. For the first name, I called it Name2. For the surname, I called it “surname2”.

In the screenshot I used Mailinator to test registrations and you can see that the name in the “to” field is the username and different to the name in the email body which is the first name.

I’d like to make the name in the “to” field also the first name so it is consistent with the email body. Ideally I would also like to be able to customise the email body.

Thank you to anyone who can help.

I have tried the solutions found on the internet including the one here on Buddypress Forum, and also this one: https://www.cozmoslabs.com/docs/profile-builder/add-ons/buddypress/#Hide_8220This_field_can_be_seen_by8221_notification_displayed_under_the_fields

but they all seem to hide only the message on the registration form and not in their profile. I want to hide it everywhere.

    Anyone with a new idea?

I am testing out Buddypress Version 12.5.0 and I made a registration form with Buddypress’ profile fields as well as a third party plugin “User Registration” by WPEverest. I tested both separately and noticed that Buddypress registration form does not collect the surname of the user, only the first name, because there is no field for surnames. I made a separate text box field and named it “surname” but obviously it does not connect to actual surname field in the buddypress and wordpress back end.

User Registration has an actual surname field and can collect the user’s surname which shows up correctly in the back end, but it displays the user’s username as the name when the person logs in. For example if a person’s name is “Jane Doe” but their username is “gelato”, in the top right corner when they log in it says “gelato” which is not good, so I can’t use this.

So I am wondering if anyone has a way to force the Buddypress registration form to collect the surname correctly so it shows in the backend?

    Thanks

Sigh. I’m talking to myself… It seems that disabling that security plugin seemed to work but now my registration is back to broken. So I’m not sure that was really it, or there’s something else going on.

Naturally right after I posed my plea for help I figured it out. I had a bot attack about a week ago and as a result I tightened down a security plugin I’ve been using. Apparently some setting in that plugin broke the registration. So now I don’t have the security plugin enabled, which will probably mean a bunch of bot registrations, but I’ll try to narrow down the issue and report back in case it helps anyone else.

Been on BuddyPress for years. Just got an email from a user today that was unable to register. I tested it out and on submission I get a screen flash, then nothing. There are no errors in the dev tools console. There are no php errors logged. I’m a little stumped. I switched themes to a default 2024 theme, and the issue happens on that as well. Would appreciate any suggestions.

I’m experiencing issues with the password field on the registration form. While it’s not displaying a password that exists (and every time I refresh it, it updates to a different one), it displays something random for any user who finds this page. I think this is why we keep getting so many spam requests…

Is there any way to hide that field input by default?

I found another topic here regarding a different theme conflict: https://buddypress.org/support/topic/password-key-input-invisible-by-default-help/

Did you allow registration in your wordpress dashboard? In the Settings – General, have you checked the option that says “Anyone can register”?

    –SOLVED–

Update: I have discovered a work-around and would like to post it here in case it is useful to anyone else.

I installed both BuddyPress for its membership functions (eg profiles, directory) and also “User Registration” plugin (https://wordpress.org/plugins/user-registration/) for the registration form. User Registration plugin allows you to have more than one user registration forms and you can set what role you want each registration form to automatically assign to the user that signs up with that form. For example, you can create a form for teachers, and a separate form for students, and have the forms assign the respective roles to registrants of the form. Of course you need to create the roles first: t do this, use some sort of plugin that lets you manage user roles. I used “Members” (https://wordpress.org/plugins/members/). You can then create restrictions using this plugin and control the pages that each user role can and cannot have access to.

I would like to create multiple registration forms for different membership types, just like the people I saw in this post:

    Multiple Registration Forms?

I saw that Webizone and Minijuji1 had a solution. But, I am not a technical person and was already stumped in step 1 when Webizone said to “Copy the the contents of the bp-templates/bp-legacy/buddypress/members/register.php into the new registration page template

I am not sure what the “registration page template” is. Surely it is not a new page within the wordpress dashboard? Where do I find or how do I create this new “registration page template”?

I also do not understand hooks at all. Is there an easier explanation or solution for non-web developers?

    Hello,

I would like to remove the statement that shows on the registration page:

“Registering for this site is easy. Just fill in the fields below, and we’ll get a new account set up for you in no time.”

I see there has been other questions about this, (for example, here: https://buddydev.com/support/forums/topic/hide-register-text-in-bp-regsiter-form/) but it has not been resolved for me. I am not using Buddypress Nouveau. I have BuddyPress 12.4.0.

    Thank you

    Hello,

I am using WordPress 6.5.2 and BuddyPress 12.4

I would like to know how I can remove the “username” field in the registration form.
I see there has been A a lot of requests for this in the past but no solution. It makes so much more sense to just use the email address to log in rather than force-having a username of which your preferred one may be taken. An email address is unique already.

Is there a way to PLEASE remove the Username field?

Also I really do not like that the BuddyPress registration page has an “account” section with the username, email address and password and a separate “profile” section with the name in it. Unfortunately, after testing every single plugin on the market (I am only testing so not investing money on paid plugins right now), buddypress is the only one that has the features I need, even though it has major downfalls too. One of these downfalls is the annoying compulsory use of a “username” section in the registration form. In the back end, the default registration field cannot even be deleted.

Is it possible to have a 100% custom registration form with BuddyPress? All I want is something like:

    Fist Name
    Last Name
    Email address
    Password
    Repeat Password

And have a separate profile section once the user logs in using their registered email address.

    Thank you

    Hello there,

I have adopted the maintenance of a BuddyPress based site for a client.

They have closed down registration so that every new member has to be accepted via the Member Requests function within BP.

Currently we have a number of moderators on the site that would ideally be able to process these new member requests, and as they aren’t on the site 24/7 would need to receive the new member request email that is currently sent to admins only.

Is there any tangiable way to do this in BP? So in short, the email “X would like to join The Fosil Group” could be sent to a number of pre-defined emails or specific users?

I am struggling with the customization of the register page. I need to put the labels and desriptions on the right place cause some of them are messed up. I understand that the page is filled on a loop at register.php. But how can I chance whats in the loop?

    Any docs for that?
I only found that old post which shows that I am not the only one with this issue.

Hi @venutius, I must apologies as I misunderstood what the plugin was doing — the user role I had setup had manage options enabled so I didn’t see any change.

I have now created a new user role and using the plugin the assigned users can still manage the Group, Members, Activity and emails perfectly without having access to other areas.

The main problem I had was how to email/notify the none admin users that a new member needed approving – after going around in circles I simplified the whole login/registration process by using Gravity Forms which solved some other issues with keeping records and triggering 3rd party services.

Thanks again and sorry for any confusion.

Hi @venutius, not sure if I am missing something, but it doesn’t appear to work – in-fact when enabled and user role is selected the User no only doesn’t receive an email but the notification in BP stops working.

I might look at using a 3rd party registration plugin like Paid Memberships Pro.

In my set up the “default” name shown for new members in the Member Directory is the username. I would like that to be the Nickname which is chosen by each member. Is there a way to use the Nickname as the default for every new member registration?

    Hi Guys,

We have a buddypress website, it’s quite niche so membership is restricted. We have been using BuddyPress Members Only to restrict membership.

But there’s a problem, as soon as someone registers, they are added to the list of members here. It’s true that we still need to approve their membership before they can do anything, but we definitely don’t want them listed on our site publicly without approval.

I’ve heard nothing back from the developers of this system so I’m looking for an alternative, can anyone recommend an approval method that works?

Registration is open to anyone, however each registration needs to be approved before, the registrant is listed or can do anything.

I always get following message in my wordpress:
Each BuddyPress component needs its own WordPress site. These WordPress sites are connected to more than one component:
    Register

I’ve two register dropdown menues for the registration. I don’t know if this is the problem. And I don’t know how to fix it.

I hope someone of you can help me.

Hello, I’ve encountered this problem – when pages are created automatically, pages are created with numbers. For example, registration page – registration 2 or membership page – members 2. I have tried manually making changes, but they are not saved and still have numbers. I have removed all such pages from WordPress. I could use BP Classic, but in the latest versions of youzify which I use there is a conflict with this plugin. I have been trying to solve this problem for the second month now. My site, which I spent a very long time and painstakingly perfecting, just became a chaotic set of unrelated pages. It’s a shame to lose what I have worked so hard for so long. Can anyone help to solve this problem?

Hello @imath, can I close the activation key process during registration? I mean, I want to directly redirect the user to the login page after registration.
