MemberOk, I think I finally figured out how to do the bp-custom.php and get that where it needs to go. It only took me 2 and a half weeks, great huh?

Now, on to the child theme: The codex says, “The bp-default theme is located in the BuddyPress plugin folder at /wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/ so it can be updated along with the plugin. WordPress knows where it is, even though your own child theme folder is in /wp-content/themes/.”
I don’t see a themes folder under wp-content, am I supposed to create one and then go on with the rest of the steps?

ParticipantBy the way I am using a custom child theme so I have my own group index.php page but not a custom groups-index.php file

KeymasterYou’ll just need to put the relevant templates into your child theme, and change the markup as you want.

KeymasterYou’re either going to have to do a find/replace in your theme, or use a language file to achieve the same; https://codex.buddypress.org/translations/.

ParticipantThanks @mercime. Sadly, the RocketTheme theme I’m using has a blank style.css and has a ton of broken up .css files that the gantry framework call. Right now I’ve got 252 .css files so I’ve got no clue what I’m looking for or where to add the horizontal/vertical style.
When i checked in Firebug, I got a huge list that had a ton of css files linked to it. I saw that it called for a generic-button but the only one I found in the css files listed was in bp.css in my Gantry-Buddypress plugin. After adding some horizontal/vertical code, it didn’t do anything to the buttons or how they view on the page.

@mercime
Participant@roxanne-bland not right. Go to dashboard menu, Plugins > Add New and enter “bp template pack” in keyword and click on “install” button in pop-up.
@BlinkyBill01 you don’t need to add a break tag. Instead, you could make all buttons line up horizontally or vertically via adding styles to your buttons in your theme’s stylesheet. You can use Firebug, a Firefox add-on, to check what selector you’d need to style the buttons.

ParticipantI too am having this problem. I’m using a custom theme from RocketThemes. I looked in the member-header.php file and it has that line of code you listed.
On my member profile pages it only lists “Add Friend” Public Message” & “Private Message.”

MemberThank you Paul! I know there are some difficult requirements and that’s why I’ve been having issues finding the right theme. I do have some finances I can invest in a theme, but can’t spend over $100 on it, and need to know it will work with buddy press as well as being responsive. There are some AMAZING responsive themes out there, but I have no clue if they will work with buddypress.

@mercime
ParticipantBP and WP versions? Could be a theme or plugin conflict. Have you tried basic troubleshooting by changing to bp-default theme and deactivating all plugins except BuddyPress?

KeymasterThat function doesn’t have any filters or action calls. You’re probably best to find an action in the default theme’s template surrounding where this function is used*.
*If you need to add new fields into the *form*, then that’s not possible at the moment. You could contribute a patch to add a new action into this function on https://buddypress.trac.wordpess.org so that we could get it in to a future release

ParticipantAdd the following in your stylesheet
`#primary .widget-title {
text-align: left !important;
}`

Memberjust one more small thing:
i’ve added the sytle modifications to the style.css, but now somehow the sidebar widget-titles get cut off.
it’ probably overwriting something in the style definition, right?
the style.css alone from mantra is ~ 2200 lines… i cant find the part thats interfering…March 3, 2012 at 9:36 pm #130842egehlhaar

InactiveGo to the dashboard, under BuddyPress in the left pane select components. Uncheck the checkbox to the left beside Activity Stream. You may also want to create a custom menu while in the dashboard under appearance/menus and name it, make sure under theme locations/primary navigation you select the name you created and save it. Down below check all the post and pages you want to add to the navigation and click the Add to Menu button. To the left you can drag the boxes in the order you want the post/pages to display in the navigation menu. Make sure you save the menu. This way only the items you want you up on the front end navigation and in the buddybar at the top.

ParticipantTo make your WP theme compatible with BuddyPress, you’ll need to install and activate BP Template Pack plugin then go through Appearance > BP Compatibility process

MemberYes, I’m trying to use BP Followers. I’m using a WP theme. How do I get a BP Template Pack?
March 3, 2012 at 8:52 am #130790In reply to: No Follow Button Under User Profile
@mercime
ParticipantYou’re referring to BuddyPress Followers plugin, right? What theme are you using? Follow button shows up/works when you’re using bp-default theme or WP theme with BP Template Pack. If you’re using custom BP theme, check if it has “ in custom theme’s /members/single/member-header.php

MemberNevermind, I just went with my gut and everything seems to be working well.
Thank you @mercime! Is there a simple way I can return the favor for your help?

MemberThat’s awesome Mercime! Thank you.
I’m doing everything now and just want to clarify one thing quickly….
When searching for the first part of code you put above, on some of the files, the first “do action” is beneath the “padder”. Should I be taking out the “do action” then? Or only if it’s above the “padder” as you explicitly posted. I apologize if this is a totally amateur question…
BTW, just a note … in the backend of BP compatibility plugin, it only lists 15 files (no blogs/create). Good to know I’m getting all 16 : )
