Thanks Ray, I’ll keep an eye on that ticket. I’m not sure it’s what I’m experiencing however. Despite having the same WP, BP, plugins and theme, the buttons to join both public and private groups do not appear for any user, only on my production site. When on the page for a private group you’re not a member of, there is a tab link to request membership which will show the “You do not have access to this group” error, but the issue is higher than that since joining any group is somehow unavailable.

I suggest you look in bp-default theme’s /members/index.php to see an example of the members loop. You can use it as a template to use elsewhere in your theme where you want to build your avatar list.

Assuming you’ve verified that the page has not actually been created twice, what about creating a custom menu, if your theme supports that?

I couldn’t see how to edit my post, but here is the version information:

Wordpress 3.2.1 Clean install on the root directory (CentOS – Host: Webhostingbuzz)
    Buddypress: 1.5.1
bbpress: 2.0 (installed through the buddypress installtion process)
    Artisteer theme
Have not messed with core files.

I can go the the bbpress forums via the usual forum lint: http://www.mydomain.com/forums/, but I had articulated in the buddypress setup that discussion forums were to go to http://www.mydomain.com/families, and even though I have created a “families” page, the link does not appear on the menubar, and when I attempt to navigate to that page it is not merely blank, but I get a 404 not found, and in the addressbar there is just the domain: “mydomain.com”.

    Best,
    James

== BuddyPress to become more compatible with WP themes in general ==
@kkradel use the BP Template Pack plugin with your WP theme. If you need assistance post a new topic in this forum.

    Thanks
I upgraded from 1.5, but my buddypress elements have never worked properly.

    I tried everything you said.

I’m now going through the theme check results and editing…
There’s a lot there. I’ll let you know how it goes…

    Thanks again!

All true. Unfortunately I’m not Shiva, nor can I clone myself, and am having a hard time working on QA contracts AND developing a business with a broken install of buddypress. Plus my test environment would be on a live server anyway since I just don’t have room on my laptop. One thing I’d love to see is for BuddyPress to become more compatible with WP themes in general – so that what should be at most a 30 minute install isn’t a 3-month-12-hours-every-single-day hackfest. BuddyPress has a lot of potential which is why I decided to use it. But my business idea is dead in the water until I can get questions answered.

To restore your WP admin dashboard, login to your WordPress install via FTP or cPanel and rename the “buddypress-classifieds” directory to something else like djoep recommended.

BuddyPress Classifieds is an older plugin that hasn’t been updated for BP 1.5.

For BP 1.5 info, you should read these articles:
    https://codex.buddypress.org/releases/1-5-plugin-compatibility/
    https://codex.buddypress.org/releases/1-5-theme-compatibility/
    https://codex.buddypress.org/releases/1-5-developer-and-designer-information/

Read this to add back the delete link in the activity stream:

Create a custom.css file if you haven’t already, and enable the custom.css option in “Appearance > Theme Options”. Upload your logo to the server – I’d create a folder in the theme for this, something like “custom-images” or whatever. Then use a CSS image replacement technique referencing that logo/image in your CSS.

If you change the name of the plugin folder, through cpanel or by other means, wordpress will automatically deactivate the plugin and you should be able to get back to wordpress. I had the same thing happen with a theme.

Just to clarify, previous to upgrading to BuddyPress 1.5.1, what BP version were you on? Or is this a new install? Not quite clear. I suggest you change to bp-default, log out, clear cache and log in again.

To make sure that the theme you’re installing is really updated and compatible with WP 3.2.1 and BP 1.5+, install the Theme Check plugin and run it. If there are warnings or required items, then either drop the theme or contact the theme dev to update the theme or update it yourself.

Please post your query at https://wordpress.org/tags/buddypress-ajax-chat?forum_id=10 which plugin dev usually checks out.

Done, thanks Paul, here’s the ticket: https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/3692

for now, can I edit the register.php in my child theme for a workaround? I’m thinking if I can make the text box localised I can edit the field label instead in a .mo file? Any guidance on how I could edit the code to make that happen please?

Default theme, totally clean, nothing running except latest WP and BP. No other plugins, nothing.
I even wiped the DB and started again.

Clicking ‘members’ tab then clicking a members name.

Members are merely test accounts so I know they have logged in etc.

Also, new member emails/ activation codes were never sent.
    Connected?

    > What are the differences and similarities as to how the buddybar and the WP adminbar are configured? What will be lost and what will be gained and how configurable will it be?

The BuddyBar will still be there, though it will be turned off by default in favor of the WP Admin Bar. (In BP 1.5, that’s reversed – you can enable the WP admin bar manually with
    `define( ‘BP_USE_WP_ADMIN_BAR’, true );`
    in wp-config.php.)

BP’s WP Admin Bar implementation has:
    – a logged-in user dropdown menu (links to logged-in user’s groups, activity, etc
    – admin links for current group
    – admin links for currently displayed user
    – Notifications

There is ‘Visit Random’ button in the current implementation, though it’s worth an enhancement request on http://trac.buddypress.org

In any case, it will be completely customizable. The BuddyBar is mostly hardcoded HTML. The WP Admin Bar is built using an easy-to-use API, making it far easier to customize to your liking. If you don’t like the search, it’s easy to remove. If you don’t like the appearance, it’s easy to modify with CSS.

    > Does anyone know yet if BP 1.5 will run on WP 3.3?

It’s mostly fine. The WP Admin Bar, which changes a lot between 3.2 and 3.3, does not work all that well.

    > Is there any way to create one nice big CSS for the whole BuddyPress shebang, so it won’t be so difficult to figure out the where, how, and why of formatting?

Most of bp-default’s CSS is in bp-themes/bp-default/_inc/css/default.css.

    Hi guys,

I had the exact same problem and went to plugins > buddypress > bp-xprofile > bp-xprofile-filters.php and had a look. At the very top there is a very nice list of filters, all of them starting of “add_filter”. When you want to remove something WITHOUT touching the core, simply find the one you want, copy and paste it into your functions.php inside your theme, and then replace “add_filter” with “remove_filter”.

In this case just replace what you had before with the code below and it should work:

    remove_filter( ‘bp_get_the_profile_field_value’, ‘xprofile_filter_link_profile_data’, 9, 2 );

    I’m running Buddypress 1.5.1 :)

    Hi all
Some months back I made my WP blog theme (anIMass) BP compatible and have been waiting for the day to start using and testing the features. Well that day is today!
I want to start by enabling the forum feature for my blog except I cannot see yet (in admin page/WP dashboard) how to set it up!
I am most grateful for help & advice & meanwhile I will keep searching on Google for more info on this.

I look forward to helpful replies-many thanks

    Latest update:
My WP blog seemed to want me to install bbplugin2.0 so I have done (it was a couple of months ago I made my theme BP compatible and I have forgotten exactly where I had got to & what I had to do next!).
Then I enabled site wide forum option.
Now I see all sorts of menus in the dashboard for BP and I tried to create a new forum-unfortunately this only displays a blank/empty browser!
    -see http://richard-dickinson.com/forums/forum/rhdwponlinetwist_forum-4-netnewbies/

    I need help please….

BP 1.5 now enqueues all stylesheets in functions.php of bp-default. Check out

I suggest that you find another theme or check with original theme dev if it will be upgraded to current BP 1.5. Contact tech support of your webhost and specifically check if there have been any changes with the mail function

EDIT- there’s also a solution posted here which is not directly related to your issue but which could shed some light to a solution https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/registration-email-not-being-sent/?topic_page=2&num=15#post-100993

    Appears nowhere!!

I have tried creating a new multisite test site, fresh, without ‘enable multisite’ and without the theme I was using before. Latest version of WordPress, Latest version of Buddypress, Firefox browser… The settings for ‘welcome pack’ remains invisible :(

Sorry about long error message in title… thaqnks for tip on BP Template Pack. I’m currently trying to set up a different theme, so I’ll keep going this way… and if I run into trouble, I’ll deactivate the BP TP and then try default BP theme. Thanks again! :-)

Lots has happened. I upgraded to 3.2.1 but then had to revert to back to 3.1.3 because of incompatability issues with my theme.. I really don’t know where along the issue has arisen? It did work originally.
