@David: This looks really great. Very clean + a mobile version? amazing.
Love to help out.
as stated above i have already
-Reverting to buddypress default theme
-Turning off all my plugins and reactivating them one by one. (both default and Default BP theme)
-Using BP profile as homepage ( which worked for the immediate login but when they click Home at the top they are seeming logged out until refresh again)
as for the cache plugin i haven’t installed anything for cache, ids that a default plugin?
hmm, the ‘edit’ link on my previous reply 404’s?
anyway, just saw that that link is dead. Not sure where it came from, but the name of the plugin is “Remove BuddyPress AdminBar”.
There is a ‘hide admin bar for logged out users’ option. But I want the bar on regular BP sites, I just did not want it on a domain-mapped site that is totally separate (though running on the same WP multisite installation).
http://blog.netweblogic.com/php/wordpress-php/remove-admin-bar-plugin/ did the trick for me.
Guessing this is highly inconvenient and awkward for a whole lot of BP users that aren’t able to run localhost dev sites.
First of all, if this is the same Tropical Dream theme from free-wordpress-theme.net, then I suggest that you check all your theme files for any encrypted or encoded scripts and if necessary, have such scripts decoded first at https://wordpress.org/support/topic/theme-decoding-thread?replies=10
Following are some references to get HTML in line with BP template files:
https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/wordpress-to-buddypress-theme/
https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/bp-template-pack-walkthrough-level-easy-2/
1. Download BP template folders/files transferred to your active WP theme in server to your computer hard drive.
2. Let’s start with the first file which needs to be changed https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/wordpress-to-buddypress-theme/#revise-templates
Open up /activity/index.php and at the top of the file, replace
`
with your theme’s HTML at top
`
At the bottom of the /activity/index.php, replace
`
`
with your theme’s structure
`
`
3. Save revised /activity/index.php and implement revisions on the rest of the files as listed in https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/wordpress-to-buddypress-theme/#revise-templates
4. Upload revised template files to server. Cross your fingers
Isn’t there a “disable” option in wp-admin BuddyPress > General Settings ?
It is an issue with WP core which just hasn’t been fixed yet.
@mercime
and you think there would be any point? The two tickets state their intractable positions. Personally I care little, I don’t ever use this function of WP, I don’t like these functions, they always feel like a security issue waiting to happen.
I suspect that WP devs could fix this, but far be it for someone as insignificant as myself to suggest so.
Site URL?
It worked, but leaves a blank space on top of the page and the CSS is still being called in the source.
Is there a way to remove the admin.css call for just this theme (or better remove the bar and the css for all non-admin users).
Cheers
@hnla something you’d like to add here https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/3096 or in a new ticket ?
Read the ticket though, doesn’t appear that anything will be done about it
it is perhaps a BP problem really as BP pulled it’s theme out of the normal WP theme directory where it was originally and should have stayed! WP may have changed things but doesn’t sounds as though it will change it back, tickets 4 months old! so you’ll have to edit locally for the moment, which is far better anyway.
It’s a WP issue that’s affecting BP which DJPaul reported in WP Trac https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/16744
The code you posted is still not enough – it’s missing the rest of the code ending in “
Two ways:
1. WP Codex: https://codex.wordpress.org/Creating_a_Static_Front_Page or
2. create home.php (special WP template file) and paste the complete code then save to theme folder in server
I only want the static homepage. I have a theme that I am using and loving.
(static homepage is where the home page doesn’t show any of the recent posts, and looks like a non-wordpress website)
Sorry, that is not enough to create a theme which you will need to run WordPress/BuddyPress. You can choose from among the free themes in the WP repo at https://wordpress.org/extend/themes/
If you have any trouble with WP installation or themes, please post your questions at https://wordpress.org/support/forum/how-to-and-troubleshooting
I’m still trying to fix this and not heard back from the theme author yet. If anyone is able to help I’d really appreciate it!
If I switch to the default template the group creation works fine. If I activate my Suffusion theme it stops working on step 3. There is no avatar preview or upload choice. Clicking to the next option gives the error listed above.
I set up a WP install with 3.1 thinking that would solve the problem for now. It did at first, but then today the same problem started. I disabled all plugins and still had the same problem.
If you go back, then click the group directory your group is there and can be edited. But it’s creation doesn’t get posted to the activity stream because the setup is interrupted.
My test site is testsite3.homestead-acres.com
wont get into that argument lol. swapbbm.com does look well designed. custom theme me thinks
The first thought is cache plugin not working well in your install. The second thought is outdated theme or plugin.
1st step in troubleshooting, change to bp-default theme and deactivate all plugins except BuddyPress.
@Chouf1 It’s WP generated URL for when you set comments to show no more than x number of comments per page e.g. http://pross.org.uk/plugins/theme-check/comment-page-1/#comment-2834
@drhoussem The article I linked to was quite clear. For more assistance re adding widget areas in your theme, WP.org forums is the place to go –> https://wordpress.org/support/forum/how-to-and-troubleshooting
@curtis642 sure, just start a new thread. Before doing so, I recognize the theme you’re using as one which needs some decryption if you haven’t done so already. Clean the theme files up first. You’ll find decoding assistance here https://wordpress.org/support/topic/theme-decoding-thread?replies=7
i haven’t inderstand it, could explaine steps here please?
You make a WP theme compatible with BP via the BP Template Pack plugin. The whole process is explained in the first link and an example in the second link.
https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/wordpress-to-buddypress-theme/
https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/bp-template-pack-walkthrough-level-easy-2/ where it shows how you can hardcode the navigation tabs/links to BP components and regular WP pages
