    If you haven’t already, create a bp-custom.php file in the wp-content/plugins directory. Add this to the file:

    <?php
    // hacks and mods will go here

    // disable the WP Toolbar and revert back to the BuddyBar
    add_filter( ‘bp_use_wp_admin_bar’, ‘_return_false’ );

    ?>

    If you’ve been unable to recreate the problem yourself, it makes it very difficult for us to recreate it. If you figure out how to recreate it, let us know.

    @mercime Thanks for the reply, answers are as follows:

    * Group Forums

    * Custom-built child theme based on Buddypress default theme (as I can’t replicate the problem myself I’ve been unable to test whether the fault persists when I switch themes)

    * The only membership plugin I’m using is User Role Editor. I’ve used this to create a new Subscriber role I’ve called ‘Super Subscriber’ which has one extra function. However both ordinary Subscribers and Super Subscribers have reported being able to see these extra icons.

    == This only happens when they are browsing in the Forums. ==

    Group Forums or bbPress sitewide forums? What theme are you using? Also, are you using any membership plugin?

    This is my last 3 days (100 logins) log: There’s only 1 successful spammer login , without IP ban I would have 100 new accounts.

    Remove both code snippets and see if the WP Toolbar shows up.

    @mentions work the way you intended them to; they leave a notification in the WP Toolbar for the user and concurrently notifies the user via email.

    If you want something more immediate and Facebook-like, use Brajesh Singh’s Live Notification plugin:
    http://buddydev.com/uncategorized/introducing-buddypress-live-notification-plugin-a-facebook-like-notification-plugin-for-buddypress/

    Might need updating.

    I should add, not all the menu options which could appear do. For example, when logged on as admin I can see the plugin menu notifying me of one plugin to update, but this does not appear to the subscribers who are being shown the menu options.

    Since upgrading to Buddypress 1.6 some of my site’s users who are at subscriber level are seeing parts of the WordPress Toolbar which they should not be able to.

    This only affects some subscribers. I have not been able to replicate the problem myself but I have seen screengrabs.

    This only happens when they are browsing in the Forums. It does not happen when they go into the Group menu. Logging out and logging in does not appear to make a difference, nor does me clearing the cache (I use W3 Total Cache).

    They are able to see if there are comments awaiting moderation, however they are not able to follow the link to them as they do not have sufficiently high permissions. They can also see the ‘+ New’ menu. And they can see another menu placed there by a plugin which should not be visible to them.

    As I am not able to replicate this at the moment I’m at a loss to understand what’s wrong and wonder if it might be a bug?

    Think there’s something very wrong here.
    After disabling the WP Toolbar with the code snippet listed here:

    https://codex.buddypress.org/releases/version-1-6/upgrading-to-1-6/#important-changes-to-know

    The BuddyPress meny does not show at the top of the admin bar
    What’s this?

    I created the bp-custom.php with this code, put it in wp-content and also tried it in plugins, but neither on brought back the previous admin bar. In the plugins folder did put the code (as text) in the header of the page but that’s it. Am i missing something else?

    Also, i thought during the upgrade (in the wizard) on the toolbar line it said you can change your mind later if you don’t want the new WP toolbar. You can change you mind, but you can’t easily revert back? I was under the impression that if you click the check box to try out the new WP admin bar you would be able to easily disable it later.

    You can add this code to your /wp-content/bp-custom.php file (if you don’t already have one and this is your first time adding custom code, just create the file through your FTP client)

    `// disable the WP Toolbar and revert back to the BuddyBar
    add_filter( ‘bp_use_wp_admin_bar’, ‘__return_false’ );`

    In your theme’s functions.php file, add this code:

    `if (!current_user_can(‘manage_options’)) {
    add_filter(‘show_admin_bar’, ‘__return_false’);
    }`

    Can’t take the credit for this. Google is your friend:

    @charlietech Have a look at the link @r-a-y added you’ll see the code you can add to your /wp-content/plugins/bp-custom.php file (if you don’t already have one and this is your first time adding custom code, just create the file through your FTP client)

    `// disable the WP Toolbar and revert back to the BuddyBar
    add_filter( ‘bp_use_wp_admin_bar’, ‘__return_false’ );`

    What about if I want to use the WP Toolbar?

    I’m not sure how your site is supposed to look or function, but I am able to access your BuddyPress pages:
    http://malecondans.no/samfunn/aktivitet/
    http://malecondans.no/samfunn/medlemmer/

    About the double line at the top, try disabling the WP Toolbar with the code snippet listed here:

    ‘add_filter(‘show_admin_bar’, ‘__return_false’);` in your functions.php file to turn off fully.

    Alternatively, you can use:

    ‘Settings > BuddyPress : Toolbar Show the Toolbar for logged out users’

    You can also select to show or hide the WordPress admin bar on your own profile.

    If none of those work for you then you may need to look see if your theme is forcing something.

    The old bar is deprecated. Use an older version of BuddyPress if you want to use the old bar. Please note the 1.6 notes (no pun intended):

    In the Highlights section (https://codex.buddypress.org/releases/version-1-6/#highlights):
    Toolbar — complete integration with the WordPress Toolbar.

    Also in the General section (https://codex.buddypress.org/releases/version-1-6/#general):
    BuddyPress now uses the WordPress Toolbar. The BuddyBar has been deprecated. (#3596, #3661)

    FYI, the WP bar is much better and you are able to customize it fully with the available hooks.

    Hi Charlietech, the BuddyPress admin bar is now merged with the WordPress one.

    So, you can use this:

    ‘add_filter(‘show_admin_bar’, ‘__return_false’);` in your functions.php file to turn off fully.

    Alternatively, you can use:

    ‘Settings > BuddyPress : Toolbar Show the Toolbar for logged out users’

    You can also select to show or hide the WordPress admin bar on your own profile.

    If none of those work for you then you may need to look see if your theme is forcing something.

    Just a slight point on top though, if possible can you only start one thread per question as it does help to focus responses?

    Unfortunately, I can’t find anyone else with this issue. So clearly the problem is between the chair and keyboard. I apologize for wasting anyone’s time with this, but I’ve been stuck for days and can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong. So, thank you in advance.

    I am not a programmer!

    So here’s my issue: I just can’t seem to get anything working correctly. I have a theme (dynamix) which supports buddypress.I have buddypress installed and activated with bbpress. But when I try to create a new forum, it gets created in a place that I don’t have access to.

    For example, I go to dashboard > Forums > New Forum > and I create a new forum (usually with some sarcastic name because I’m frustrated)

    That forum gets created with the forum slug and the forum base.

    So, let’s say I have my forum base set to X
    My forum slug set to Y

    When I publish the a new forum, let’s call it “Imstupid”, it goes to: http://www.[mysite].com/ [forum page]/X/Y/imstupid

    My assumption is that it would go directly to the X spot.

    So, I want people to be able to click on my forum page (it’s not named forums, by the way) and have a list of forums right there. As it stands now, not only are the forums I have created not there, but I can’t even get to them!

    Thank you, again, in advance for your help. And God bless anyone who help me figure this out!

    9. Are you using the standard BuddyPress themes or customized themes? DynamiX
    10. Have you modified the core files in any way? Nope. I think you and I both know I don’t know how!
    11. Do you have any custom functions in bp-custom.php? No.
    12. If running bbPress, which version? Or did your BuddyPress install come with a copy of bbPress built-in? 2.1.1 BuddyPress install came with bbPress built in.
    13. Please provide a list of any errors in your server’s log files. None
    14. Which company provides your hosting? Bluehost
    15. Is your server running Windows, or if Linux; Apache, nginx or something else? Windows

    Theme BuddyPress Default with 0 Widgets (latest version)
    You are using WordPress 3.3.2.

    Editing Toolbar for posts / pages

    I am going crazy – I am neither an HTML expert nor a CSS scripter. I need tables pleae. Am using Kompozer to create the page layouts (HTML), but it has no formatting for cell properties borders, only a border for the whole table.

    Wordpress/BuddyPress has no ‘visual’ tool to create and format a table. I’ve now spent hours looking for a ‘visual’ toolbar plugin that will allow table creation & cell formatting, i.e. colour and borders etc. The wordpress plugin that I installed did nothing – 1) font.3.2.zip 2)font-burner-control-panel.zip. The visual toolbar did not ‘update’ to show these options, so I de-activated.

    I’ve had a look at the CSS Tutorial, but it is totally above my pay grade….

    Please, what help (if any). Thank you very, very much.
