Wait until next release if you can before customising the text too much. Same reason as my earlier answer about translation. I’m in two minds on how I want to approach it.
Points are collected at the moment, they just aren’t shown anywhere. Any suggestions where?
Feature list I will type when I get home
Finally (before bed), with regards to translations: I could upload the .pot file, or you could generate one yourselves, but I would recommend waiting for the next release.
I may change the way translation and achievement text customisation are / will be handled, so you may end up wasting your time if you rush to do it at the moment.
This of course begs the question as to when the next version will be – probably end of the Sunday 16th – will be working hard in my spare time to try to achieve this.
The only image with text is the one that says “socialnetwork”, but you should change that anyways
If you translate the default theme, that’s all you do – you don’t have to change any of the images *unless you want to*. Good luck!
Hello
I just found out that there are language files, however I still wonder if I want to translate a hole buddypress site to another language will I then have to customize any images?
For example if I translate the default theme.
(I haven’t created a bp site yet but I am thinking of doing one)
Thank you for your time.
Ok… I reverted the chaos, still some words aren’t translated in the template.
You can see here the words that don’t appear to be translated although they are: http://blogi.ee/groups
For example: Groups Listing, Members, etc
And the BP language file here: http://blogi.ee/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-languages/buddypress-et_ET.mo
It may be so that the translation functions for these strings are missing in your releases. You should update to WPMU 2.8.1 (or 2.8.2) and BP 1.0.3 anyways.
WPMU translation files should reside in:
wp-content/languages/
and BP translation files should reside in:
wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-languages/
If you’d like more help, please provide a link to the language files you are using, and where and what strings are not translated.
After upgrading to BP 1.0.(1 – I think) I noticed that there were some parts that weren’t translated in the theme.
So I checked the language files and the parts that didn’t appear translated were actually translated. I figured that maybe some lang files were mixed up or the name was wrong. So I renamed the files and moved them and created chaos:
Now in the MU user panel there are only some words translated, others are in English. I wanted to start all over but in the installation guide I can’t even find where the hell and with what name the language file should be.
What should the path to the BP language file be? How should the file be named?
What should the path be to the MU language file and how it should be named?
MU is 2.7.1
BP is 1.0 or 1.01

I’m trying to do this as well, however, it’s not working. I have my buddypress.po and buddypress.mo in my bp-languages folder and I uploaded a new bp-custom.php to the /plugins/ folder however, from there how do I enable the new translation?
I’m using:
<?php
define( 'BPLANG', 'mysite' );
if ( file_exists( BP_PLUGIN_DIR . '/bp-languages/buddypress-' . BPLANG . '.mo' ) ) {
load_textdomain( 'buddypress', BP_PLUGIN_DIR . '/bp-languages/buddypress-' . BPLANG . '.mo' );
}
?>
Hi
After I update my BP instalation form 1.0 to 1.02 I get problem whit “Newest | Active | Popular” options in members and groups widget. Everything works fine on 1.0. Now when someone click on one of otions it look like whole page is loaded in to single widget DIV. I install BuddyPress Default Home Theme and turn of my translation (I suspect that is a problem) but my problem didn’t disappear. I use:
WPMU 2.8.2
BP 1.0.3 (updated from 1.0.2)
bbPress 1.0 RC-2 whit simple integration based at: http://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=471
TOS plugin
running on IdeaWebServer
I’ll check it on two of my instalations on each one problem look the same.
Any one know how to solve my problem?
(sorry for my poor english)

Hi guys, I tried to generate my .po/.mo files following the instructions but it was a bit confusing and it didn’t seem like any of my changes took effect after uploading both the translation files as instructed.
I’m not trying to translate from English to another, I’m just trying to customize the verbage to gear it more toward the audience of my site.
If anyone has an easy to understand way that works, I would be eternally grateful, thanks!
Regards,
BA
Thanks for the responses!

I’ve found the bug.
It’s the german translation. If I switch the language to english, everything works fine.
Greeting, Dirk
This is all fixed in the latest 1.0 branch if people want to use that. Feel free to make this above change before I release 1.0.4 with these fixes and some other updates.
Apologies for the oversight on translation, it serves me right rushing to get 1.0.3 out for those who had upgraded to 2.8.1!

Andy is aware of some missing instances of the translation function. But, if you are noticing areas of BP that seem to be missing the translation function, please first search trac to see if they have been reported. If not, then open a new ticket. It is better to over report than under report.
My fault, in all the rush to get it working I missed the translation functions on the names. I will fix this and some other things and release a new version soon.
Well, my morning has been filled with BP bug-fixes a plenty. Here is another one:
if you have the Members Widget installed, and click on a name (i.e. Joe Schmoe), it will incorrectly link to members page (members/Joe Schmoe/).
Here is the fix:
file: buddypress > bp-core > bp-core-widgets.php
line: 113
fix: change the href= FROM bp_the_site_member_name() TO bp_the_site_member_link() like so…
<div class="item-title fn"><a href="<?php bp_the_site_member_link() ?>" title="<?php bp_the_site_member_name() ?>"><?php bp_the_site_member_name() ?></a></div>
And while you are at it you might as well fix the widget titles for translation by replacing every instance of $name = ‘xxx’
with
$name = __(‘xxx’, ‘buddypress’)
Hey,
I am using the newest trunk of Buddypress. I have translated the .PO files and it seems to work great. However, I am noticing two issues, where the words don’t get translated:
1. Page titles – all subpage titles like “members”, “groups” etc. are still in english.
2. Activity stream filters – on the frontpage the six activity filter buttons named “blogs”, “events”, “friends”, “groups”, “profile” and “status” are not translated.
I have litterally been searching through the files for hours to find out where these names are defined, so I can change them manually. But with no luck at all, I just can’t find the right place.
Can any of you guide me in the right direction?
@transposh:
Problem seems to be with the output buffering.
Output is getting buffered on initialization and my guess is that it is somehow never flushed.
init_global_vars();
if (isset($_POST['translation_posted'])) {
update_translation();
}
elseif (isset($_GET['tr_token_hist'])) {
get_translation_history($_GET['tr_token_hist'], $_GET['lang']);
}
elseif (isset($_GET['tp_gif'])) {
$trans_gif_64 = "R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAAAAACH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAICRAEAOw=
";
header("Content-type: image/gif");
print(base64_decode($trans_gif_64));
exit;
}
else {
//set the callback for translating the page when it's done
ob_start("process_page");
}
}
When I comment out the ob_start line forums are working. Will test Transposh in a bit.
Try this:
<li<?php if ( is_page('games') ) {?> class="selected"<?php } ?>><a href="<?php echo get_option('home') ?>/games" title="Games">Games</a></li>
I removed bp_is_page() and replaced it with is_page(), since bp_is_page() is only specific to BP components.
Also I removed the _e and echo references to “Games”. Chances are you won’t be using a translation patch editor.
Thanks for your support!
Figured it out: Transposh Translation Filter was causing the blank page. http://transposh.org/
