Hello there,
I just installed BuddyPress 1.2.5.2 on a Multi-site WordPress 3.0 setup. As soon as I activated, I got a wall of warnings, like:
Warning: Call-time pass-by-reference has been deprecated – argument passed by value; If you would like to pass it by reference, modify the declaration of apply_filters(). If you would like to enable call-time pass-by-reference, you can set allow_call_time_pass_reference to true in your INI file. However, future versions may not support this any longer. in /home/iffpe/public_html/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-core.php on line 547
I need to have PHP warnings turned on in order to finish the development of my own plugin, so I’m wondering if there’s anything I can do to use BuddyPress without getting these warnings. As it is, my site is unusable.
Thanks,
Anca.

Hi !
Your idea is great.
Where do you write all those codes ? into functions.php ?
Moreover, I would like to merge all “personal”, “friends”,”groups” and “mentions” in one ? using your method, would it be possible ?
Thanks to help me.
I’m using wordpress 3.0 , buddypress 1.2.5 , and bp-default theme
You can’t delete your account on this site, because the user database is shared with other websites (wordpress.org, for example). I don’t think Automattic offer a way to delete your user account.
Never mind dude, Don’t even know what I was asking myself, lol!
Yeah I just tried it on a crappy template from WordPress and done it all fine! I have experiance on themes, coded my own one into WordPress so didn’t find it hard once started!
Thanks again
Not sure what you mean. I’m guessing the layout is messed up on your BuddyPress pages.
Like I eluded to earlier, you’ll have to modify the BuddyPress templates in your theme to make it look the same as the rest of your site.
Step 3 in BP Template Pack should have outlined these steps. If you have no experience working with themes, you might find this a little daunting.
Hi, I posted this yesterday and troubleshooting and got a helpful answer on how to get rid of this HTTP 500 error (by deleting buddypress folder/files using FTP) but I still can’t get Buddypress to install without getting this error. I’ve tried installing/uninstalling several times and each time I get the same error. Does anyone have any idea whatsoever what I may be doing wrong? I thought maybe my theme was causing the problem, so I changed it to a buddypress theme. I also tried deactivating some other plugins I thought might be complicating it but that hasn’t worked either and I just updated my WordPress to the latest version.
I can actually install buddypress but I get the error message as soon as I try to activate it.
I’m not super web savvy but usually if people tell me what to do, I can figure it out. I’m trying to create this site for our school’s pta: http://www.barkapta.com (still in development but am not sure if someone sees the site if they can better help me troubleshoot).
Also, I use IX webhosting if that means anything in regards to this issue.
Any help would be very much appreciated!!!
Thanks, so it is possible?
I’ve just tested that out and it does it, just got to scale the size down for the forum, groups, and other features! However I can’t see the code to scale the size down a bit, you know where that would be?
Thanks!
You can try the BP Template Pack plugin combined with your WordPress theme:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-template-pack/
Most likely, some tweaking will need to be made to the BuddyPress templates that get imported into your theme once you use the plugin.
Hey,
The title says it all, I need help! I made a custom WordPress template for a diabetic social network site! However I want to use it with BuddyPress now!
Anyone able to help? or instructions on how to do this?
Thanks in advanced!
Creating a landing page in BuddyPress is no different than creating a landing page in WordPress.
Like Modemlooper said, what do you mean exactly?
Try editing /single.php and /page.php in your child theme.
Edit the_time()’s parameters to add the date:

@bpuser44
Glad you like my sports fundraising concept. Initially my focus is signing up sports organizations. In some cases that’s the school, other times it’s a non-profit organization and other times its the overriding association that might have a dozen or more teams. I’m basically trying to build a platform that will work for any organization that needs to raise money. In fact, I’m having some good success with cheerleading, swimming and dance teams right now too. It could certainly work for a tennis team too;-)
I think it makes sense to move to an all BP site. You’re not going to lose any of the previous benefit since BP can be configured to have all the features of your previous HTML pages.
To do what I described, you create a page and assign it a page-template (see WordPress for page template details). The page template can show pretty much anything you want. Then, create a second blank page with the title “Blog” (or whatever you want to call your blog pages). Then, go to Setting->Reading. Set the “Front Page” to the page you created with the page-template. Then, set the “Posts page” to the blank “Blog” page you created. That will make your home page the page template and give you a blog page. I actually do have my blog linked, but only at the bottom of the page: http://givingsports.com/blog/ Plus, I haven’t done many posts yet;-)
There are a couple other ways to do your blog like this, but that was the easiest one I found and it worked well for me.
first I think that other may have the same problem. as I did not found it I posted it. As it only happens if the user is logged in, there is nothing what I can show.
The description is clearly. The whole menu structure of the buddypress is below the footer. here the menu list:

Hello,
I use WordPress 3.0 and the default-Buddypress-Theme. I would like that my adminbar looks like here: http://wordpress.com/
Is that pssoible? I didn’t find a way in the net.
Best Regards
Jack
hello, I installed wordpress 3.0.1 on local (MAMP on MacOSX).
Everything worked fine.
I then tried to install BuddyPress, placing its folder in the plugins directory.
Until this point well, it appeared in the plugin administration page of wp.
I clicked to activate bp, but it did not work, Safari tells me that the server appears to have “dropped the connection” and Firefox just don’t opened the page.
Not only that, from this moment any page of the site is inaccessible (whereas before it worked properly).
The problem is something in buddypress, not wp or MAMP, I’m sure because after this I delete the buddypress folder, and “voilà” the site reappear…
If you could kindly give me some clarification or some clue to resolve the problem there would be grateful
thank you and sorry for my english!
Mathias
@meetsos, if you haven’t solved the problem yet:
I believe you should be able to create a functions.php file in the Randy Candy theme. (Or go one better and create your own child theme based on Randy Candy, so you can benefit from published updates without losing your modifications.)
thanks, i just did it through the wordpress admin screen – add plugin. right after i pressed download for the buddpress plugin, i started getting the error. i’m at a loss and hope some guru can help ((please!)) yes, that please was with hugs! lol! seriously though, i need help. thanks so much!
I doubt I can help much, but I’m sure whoever does help will need more details. Here are a few follow up questions for you.
How did you try to install buddypress, exactly? Did you add the plugin from wp-admin or by uploading to the plugins directory via ftp? Were you able to activate the buddypress plugin? i.e., when you say you just “tried to install” it, is that because it gave some error directly (and therefore you never saw buddypress in action at all or altered the default settings), or because you haven’t been able to log into wordpress since then?
Hopefully with some more details, one of the generous wp/bp gurus on here will be able to sort you out.
hey,
just tried to install buddypress to my pta’s wordpress site and now i’m getting http 5oo error when i try to log in to wordpress to configure site.
i’m a pta mom, not that web savvy, and really need to have my site live soon before school begins. can anyone PLEASE help! i really don’t want to have to go into ftp again … do i have to? ugh!
Hi all, i’ve being uploading avatar images using buddypress and i’ve noticed quite a degrade in quality … can someone point me in the direction of where I can increase the settings – i’m guessing it maybe a wordpress issue? and i’m guessing its using jpeg compression? anyway any help pointing to where i can locate this, even if its just the files that i can look at editing
Thanks
in response to the original poster. how do I place that file in my wordpress root directory, and where is the directory?
Thanks
It’s there as Paul said in your main wordpress admin, find it in your WP admin left menu towards the bottom. “WP Admin – Settings > Reading Settings > A static page (tick radio button) > “Front Page displays” (and select a page you want for your home). You can set a page for home page there, also for posts index page just under there.
This chart might help: WP Roles & Capabilities.
There’s a good plugin for that, something like Restrict Group Creation. If somebody doesn’t beat me to it, I’ll dig up the link.
EDIT: Here you go: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/buddypress-restrict-group-creation/ or get it the WordPress plugin directory.
The “blog” tab here is to the main BP site blog. If you want to offer each of your members their own individual WP blog sites, you’ll need to activate Multisite in your WordPress installation (WP 3.0 or higher only):
https://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network
I have WP 3.0.1 in Multisite mode running the latest BP, and it’s working great for me. I manually create the child sites, though, so I can’t vouch for how things work if you want to allow members to register their blog sites themselves (but I don’t see why it should matter).
