    I’m using Budypress 1.2.5.2, on WordPress MS. I’m thinking, could the activity, groups and forums, and blogs are placed on separate blogs, but the member pages are only on the main blog?

    Actually, I wanted to make the main blog just as a welcome page, login and registration form. I’ve tried to use “define (‘BP_ENABLE_MULTIBLOG’, true);”, but as a result, there are member pages on every blogs, and of course, the url of the member pages are also in accordance with the relevant blogs.

    Did anyone know, how to make it?

    Thank you in advance.

    Hi there, when I first rate a post, this msg appears:

    Deprecated: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in /opt/lampp/htdocs/wordpress-mu/wp-settings.php on line 780

    If I refresh, everything goes back to normal.
    Using WPMU 2.9.2, BP 1.2.3 and malleable for BP 0.0.7 on localhost.

    I followed a tutorial at http://www.onextrapixel.com/2010/01/30/13-useful-wordpress-sql-queries-you-wish-you-knew-earlier/ on how to change my WordPress username from admin to my name.

    It mostly worked. I initially lost Super Admin and Admin access, but I was able to restore this using my partner’s account.

    Everything seems to be fine, until I found out that users could not send me Private Messages in Buddypress. I also noticed that my mention code on my profile is still @admin, and not @bennadler

    So it seems the WordPress database was updated, but Buddypress was not. Is there another SQL query I need to run in order to change and fix this? Thanks for your help!

    1) Yes, this is possible via this plugin – http://www.justin-klein.com/projects/wp-fb-autoconnect
    2) Yup, BP offers profiles with avatar uploading / cropping.
    3) By P2P, I believe you mean the activity stream. You can disable that in the admin area.
    4) It depends what you mean by “simple forum”. The forums in BuddyPress do not offer a universal backend to administrate topics. Also, an important distinction you need to know is BuddyPress uses a concept known as “groups”. You need to create a group before you can enable a forum. This is similar to way Facebook works with fan pages. If you need a traditional forum (with forum categories, admin interface), stick to your bbPress install.

    If you just want profiles, you can enable just the profiles component and turn off the rest.

    The fundamental difference between BuddyPress and bbPress is this:
    -bbPress is a forum
    -BuddyPress is a social networking script

    I believe it’s possible to have extended profiles and avatars on your bbPress install as well. There should be a few plugins out there that does the job.

    Re: future of bbPress – it’s pretty much confirmed that bbPress will become a WordPress plugin some time late this year (in fact, work has begun!). Standalone bbPress will cease to exist. However, there are plans to provide backwards compatibility to the new plugin via an import script.

    Hello,
    I’m new to buddypress but not new to wordpress. It seems that buddypress’s handling of jQuery is very fragile. It is very easy to break jquery functions (such as the avatar crop) with plugins and it seems to override all other jquery based plugins and cause errors in them or simply break them altogether. What can I do about this? are there other people experiencing this?

    Thanks a lot! I was surprised that there was that many errors but I guess i’ll just go with it!

    You can ignore notices for the most part; it’s something the BP core dev team needs to clean up, but won’t affect the functionality of BP.

    I believe you have WP_DEBUG defined in wp-config.php, if you do, uncomment that line.

    Hi, I just downloaded the latest version of BuddyPress and installed on my local server… When I activate the plugin, however, I get a long, long list of errors:

    These are just some of the errors… I am surprised because it says it is compatible with WP3 which is what I am running, and I can see getting one or two errors, but this literally is just a small portion of the errors I get… I have disabled all other plugins to see if there was a conflict but that apparently is not the problem…. Please help, I don’t want to look elsewhere!!! : (

    Try the BP Groupblog plugin instead:
    https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-groupblog/

    It’s been awhile since I’ve used BP Community Blog (back in the ol’ BP 1.0 days), but I believe it allows you to give a group access to an existing blog to post at. This wouldn’t be on the BP frontend. It’s more of a WP admin thing. Just glanced the code a bit, and I *think* the code should still hold up…

    You don’t need the BP Template Pack if you’re doing this.

    What you’ll need to do is:

    1) Deactivate the BP Template Pack plugin.
    2) Activate the BuddyPress Default theme on your blog.
    3) Setup WP 3.0 in network mode as a subdirectory install.
    4) Create a new user blog and activate whatever theme you want on this new blog.

    Try Boone’s BP Group Management Plugin:

    I’ve only ever seen ones that the blog owner sells stuff. I wonder if https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-e-commerce/ or other WP plugins have been tested on WPMU so that blog owners could sell stuff too.

    Hello,

    I have a WordPress blog. I want to add buddypress to it, which I have already done.

    Now what I want is make buddypress as the main page while blog as a bub-page.

    I also want the same theme to be used by buddypress.

    When a user goes to domain.com, he will see the buddypress along with the theme, and the blog will be in sub folder.

    What is the best possible way to do it.

    I have used the buddypress theme pack, and I have managed to get the theme to the buddypress pages, but the homepage is still showing the blog, and when i change the reading settings to “activity stream”, i get a “Not Found” error.

    Can anyone tell me what is the best possible way to do what I am looking for ?

    Thanks in advance.

    Regards.

    @hnla, The events plugin for BP1.1(dev) had no time to update it,but if we all ask the developer for this great plugin with eventbrite for adapt it for BP
    https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/the-events-calendar/

    Eventbrite for The Events Calendar now has one piece of standalone functionality. This plugin includes a series of shortcodes that will allow the embedding of Eventbrite Widgets into WordPress post/page/sidebar content. Want to sell tickets or show a registration form for an Eventbrite event that you didn’t create yourself from WordPress? Now you can.

    Eventbrite for The Events Calendar
    Sell tickets directly from your post
    Extensive template tags for customization
    MU Compatible
    Many of the amazing features of Eventbrite – directly from WordPress
    Use shortcode to place any event ticketing on any post

    If we can get the developer to amend this event for BP,would be great!

    You are right, I should have explained.
    I am making theme both compatible for WP and BP by using something like this
    <?php if (get_option(‘gangmei_switch_platform’) == ‘buddypress’) { ?>
    <?php include(TEMPLATEPATH . ‘/_inc/member-search.php’); ?>
    <?php } else { include(TEMPLATEPATH . ‘/_inc/search-form.php’); } ?>

    This work 100%
    ( If buddypress is enable from theme option page, it will show the buddypress member search form
    else it will show the wordpress search form)

    But i want something like I said.

    You will need to go over the conditional tags for WordPress and BuddyPress sections
    https://codex.buddypress.org/developer-docs/conditional-template-tags/

    It want something like this
    if bp_is_enable
    buddypress code
    else
    Wordpress code

    I think this will really help and ease theme developer

    Can this be possible?

    Hi @Burkie .. Do you have any idea when EventPress will be released? Looking at the site, development seems to have stopped.. http://gsocevents.wordpress.com/

    Also, I’m not able to see the “Create Event” page anywhere! I can see the /events/ page but that’s it.

    Has anyone come across this problem?

    Hey guys, I love wordpress and WANT to use buddypress, but organizing events at a group level is central to what I need. PLZ suggest some clever way that I can make scheduling reasonably workable within buddypress at a group level. GIVE me a reason to stay! Even if its really barbaric way, help me get some kind of scheduler in buddypress groups (beyond simply using forums). THANKS

    What did you install before you had that problem? If plugin, rename the folder of the plugin you installed in plugins folder via FTP or cpanel. If that doesn’t work, access your database and check if you’re still admin.

    Why not just use a group for this?

    There isn’t a way to do this in BuddyPress without writing your own code to do it. You could use WP_User_Search to look up users, it is defined in /wp-admin/includes/user.php starting near line 637.

    Here’s an example from http://www.clarksonenergyhomes.com/wordpress/2009/03/16/wp-get-users-by-role-function/ (found via Google).

    function get_users_with_role ( $role ) {
    // gets all users with specified role
    $wp_user_search = new WP_User_Search( '', '', $role );
    return $wp_user_search->get_results();
    }

    This type of user search is intended for use in Administration Panels, not on public-facing pages. So be sure you know why you’re exposing that information before you do it. I’d urge against ever showing a member’s user role publicly. It’d probably be much better to use a Group for those users and display them that way — based on their membership in a certain group instead of their user role.
