    Did you patch vars.php?

    http://www.surmunity.com/a/21699-wordpress-permalinks.html#post250688

    That’s the solution for your problem. :)

    I too have also tried to use the tutorial that carrotcreative has mentioned, but not managed to get it working. The reason for my problem though I believe is that I am trying to use BuddyPress 1.2.1 on a standalone installation of WordPress 2.9.2. The tutorial is referencing the hook “bp_core_activate_account” which as far as I can see is in turn calling the function “wpmu_activate_signup” which I am guessing doesn’t exist outside of MU.

    I’ve tried using the “user_register” too hook onto and run the “update_usermeta” ,but that doesn’t appear to be working. Does anyone know what hook should be used for standalone WordPress in the absence of “bp_core_activate_account”

    Thanks.

    You’ll need to install bbPress as an external install.

    Download bbPress @ bbpress.org/download.

    Find integration guides @ bbpress.org/forums or this link:

    http://theeasybutton.com/blog/2009/07/17/integrating-buddypress-wordpress-mu-and-bbpress/

    Omit the BP integration steps in that guide.

    you might try this ~ How to Install WordPress MU on IIS 7 on Windows 2008 Server, and I know there used to be quite a bit of rewrite mods for IIS 6 and there is plenty of information available to get in running in the MU forums

    There is a new plugin I just found called BuddyPress Rate Forum Posts — https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-rate-forum-posts/. I haven’t tried it yet, but I plan to. It allows thumbs up/down voting on Forum posts and in the process users receive “karma points” for the quality and frequency of their posts. So, in theory, spammers would get bad karma scores from other users, and you could search for users with bad karma and then delete them.

    yeah … you can do a lot with that sort of thing if you just take a bit of time to learn it. This little tutorial really opened my mind to the possibilities – Frontend Admin Menu in WordPress – That guy’s website is great. Lots to learn.

    We have had bits of this conversation going on in a number of other topic threads, but I’d like to unite the conversation in one place. Here are the main issues/questions:

    1. Is it possible, or will it soon be possible with an upgrade to BP, to have a “Favorite” button in forum posts in addition to Activity Stream posts?
    2. Ability to “Favorite” a TOPIC, not just an individual post, would be huge, and show FRESHNESS of posts within that topic. I have found this feature very handy here on the Buddypress forums — there are probably 15 Topics I have added to my list of Favorites, and by viewing my Favorites list, I can quickly scan the freshness of topics in the list to see which ones have new replies to read. This is a killer feature that turns the forum into a real tool. I realize that this is a bbPress feature, but since Buddypress is all about integrating bbPress with WordPress, I’m really hoping you can add this feature or someone can make a plugin to do this with BP.
    3. What is the current state of Favorties plugin development, and is there something in the works that can accomplish the above?

    Thanks for all your hard work — BP is an amazing piece of software, and you have done a great job with it.

    I upgraded my BuddyPress installation of 1.1.3 to 1.2.1, and I had followed the instructions closely. Everything works fine except the private message system is broken. An image of an error http://blogmyway.org/sb/files/2010/02/messagebroken.png could be reproduce either send a message using admin account to a member or from a member to another member.

    Is there a way to figure out why and come up with a solution to this broken message problem? Thanks…

    Using WordPress MU 2.9.1.1, Buddypress 1.2.1, no plugin is activated besides http://premium.wpmudev.org/project/buddypress-group-email and http://premium.wpmudev.org/project/buddypress-group-calendar, testing this with Firefox 3.6, and using multidb 2.9.0 from premium.wpmudev.org.

    You could create a test account at blogmyway.org/sb/ and then create another, and use one to send the other a message to see if you could reproduce the problem, and I bet you could.

    hey everyone,

    i just installed buddypress.. have to say it’s pretty easy!

    ..but there is something broken in my permalinkstructure.

    my wordpress installation is a bit more advanced:

    (http://codex.wordpress.org/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory)

    -wordpress is not in the root; it’s in a subfolder called “cms”

    -(the wp-content folder is in the root and called “content”)

    so my wp-config.php looks like this:

    define('WP_SITEURL', 'http://hidden.url/cms');

    define('WP_HOME', 'http://hidden.url');

    define( 'WP_CONTENT_DIR', '/www/htdocs/hidden.url/content' );

    define( 'WP_CONTENT_URL', WP_HOME . '/content');

    every wordpress related blog link will be generated as expected:

    http://hidden.url/my-category/hello-world/

    http://hidden.url/my-page

    but every buddypress related link looks like this:

    http://hidden.url/cms/activity/

    http://hidden.url/cms/members/

    http://hidden.url/cms/forums/

    when i manually remove the ‘cms’ part from the url it works, too: http://bp.liqq.de/forums/

    is there a clean way to remove the cms/ in the uri?

    i think it’s a bug. just searched the whole buddypress plugin for the ‘generate_rewrite_rules’ hook, but buddypress seem to write them otherwise?

    let me know if i got something wrong!

    cheers,

    mathias

    At the moment, the classes are added to individual posts in a topic, by javascript. This results in extra server load, because wordpress has to do two whole startups for each such page. The trade-off is adding another apply_filter and a do_action to the theme, but as this plugin already benefits from one such proposed theme change, we can get two for the price of one.

    Proposed change to buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/groups/single/forum/topic.php, from line 26:

    <ul id="topic-post-list" class="item-list">
    <?php while ( bp_forum_topic_posts() ) : bp_the_forum_topic_post(); ?>
    <li <?php
    $topic_post_id = bp_get_the_topic_post_id();
    echo "id='post-$topic_post_id' class='",
    apply_filters('bp_single_forum_topic_post_css',array('class'=>'', 'post_id'=>$topic_post_id)),
    "'";
    ?> >
    <div class="poster-meta">
    <a href="<?php bp_the_topic_post_poster_link() ?>">
    <?php bp_the_topic_post_poster_avatar( 'width=40&height=40' ) ?>
    </a>
    <?php echo sprintf( __( '%s said %s ago:', 'buddypress' ), bp_get_the_topic_post_poster_name(), bp_get_the_topic_post_time_since() ) ?>
    </div>

    <div class="post-content">
    <?php bp_the_topic_post_content() ?>
    </div>

    <div class="admin-links">
    <?php
    if ( bp_group_is_admin() || bp_group_is_mod() || bp_get_the_topic_post_is_mine() ) :
    bp_the_topic_post_admin_links();
    endif;
    do_action( 'bp_single_forum_topic_links' , $topic_post_id );
    ?>
    <a href="#post-<?php echo $topic_post_id; ?>" title="<?php _e( 'Permanent link to this post', 'buddypress' ) ?>">#</a>
    </div>
    </li>
    <?php endwhile; ?>
    </ul>

    Proposed change to buddypress-rate-forum-posts/bp-rate-forum-posts.php, insert:

    // modifies the css class for topics to highlight popular posts, and hide very unpopular ones
    function rfp_css_class_for_post($args) {
    global $rfp;
    $class = $args['class'];
    $post_rating = rfp_get_post_rating( $args['post_id'] );
    $rfpclass = '';
    error_log('rfp='.print_r($rfp,true));
    if ( $post_rating == NULL )
    $rfpclass = '';
    else if ( $post_rating >= $rfp->superboost )
    $rfpclass = 'rfp-superboost';
    elseif ( $post_rating >= $rfp->boost )
    $rfpclass = 'rfp-boost';
    elseif ( $post_rating <= $rfp->hide )
    $rfpclass = 'rfp-hide';
    elseif ( $post_rating <= $rfp->diminish )
    $rfpclass = 'rfp-diminish';
    //error_log("in rfp_css_class_for_post rating '$post_rating' adding class '$rfpclass' to '$class' with args ".print_r($args,true));
    return $class.($class?' ':'').$rfpclass;
    }
    add_filter( 'bp_single_forum_topic_post_css', 'rfp_css_class_for_post', 3);

    function rfp_echo_hidden_post_link($post_id) {
    global $rfp;
    $post_rating = rfp_get_post_rating( $post_id );
    if ( $post_rating && $post_rating <= $rfp->hide )
    echo "<span class='rfp-show' onclick='jQuery(this).remove();jQuery("#post-$post_id").removeClass( "rfp-hide" );'>Click to show this hidden post</span>";
    }
    add_action( 'bp_single_forum_topic_links', 'rfp_echo_hidden_post_link', 3);

    And then the javascript section starting jQuery(document).ready( function() can be removed from buddypress-rate-forum-posts/js, and the corresponding section can be removed from the end of buddypress-rate-forum-posts/rate.php

    Hi,

    I have a BuddyPress-enabled WordPress site at http://i.7thzone.net/. I am running on WordPress MU 2.9.1 and the latest version of BuddyPress.

    I was wondering how I can display a different page for logged out users (to tell them what the site is about, etc.), and the activity stream for logged-in users when they access the home page (index.php).

    I don’t know PHP very well, so if I have to edit my theme, please guide me on how to do it. I’m using the Unplugged theme.

    Thanks.

    What I am running:

    WordpressMU – Not sure what version It’s only 2 day since I downloaded and installed though

    Buddypress – Not sure what version It’s only 2 day since I downloaded and installed though

    Custom theme of my site

    I put a post in the avatar forum as well but then realized it wasn’t a support topic.

    Basically the thumbnails are uploading but when it comes to

    “crop image” I get 2 blank images.

    What I see is happening is it’s trying to grab the avatar under this url

    http://www.pandragon.com/home/pdks/public_html/avatars/2/avatar14885_1.jpg

    Which doesn’t exist – However when I delete “home/pdks/public_html/” and enter the following url into the browser:

    http://www.pandragon.com/avatars/2/avatar14885_1.jpg

    The avatar appears.

    How and why is it inserting “home/pdks/public_html” ?

    I’ve looked everywhere and I can’t see it.

    Here is another screenshot of the crop avatar area

    http://www.pandragon.com/pan_avatar.jpg

    Any help would greatly be apprecitated.

    Also I would like to be able to add links into activity feed/users comments/forum posts etc – I would like a general “link” icon and then it popups to insert a link into what you are typing. Does anyone know how I would be able to do this – I have limited wordpress knowledge so the easiest fix would be best :)

    Right now the difference is having more than one blog. Other than that BP is no different.

    If you want user blogs use MU.

    In reply to: Avatar Upload Issues

    Hi!

    I’m having problems with uploading avatars! I checked admin area in wordpress to see if upload works properly and it does. My problem is here http://www.pandragon.com/pan_avatar.jpg

    Also This is another silly question but is there a way I can only allow links to be links within my site? So if someone is talking about a game they can only link to a page in my site that has the game they are talking about?

    This is using own theme template with Bpress.

    Problem:

    When I upload it tries getting image from this path:

    “http://www.pandragon.com/home/pdks/public_html//avatars/2/avatar14885_1.jpg&#8221;

    If i get rid of “home/pdks/public_html/” the avatar is there! = http://www.pandragon.com/avatars/2/avatar14885_1.jpg

    How can I remove “home/pdks/public_html”

    Hey,

    I’m sorry if this has been discused and if it has please feel free to point me to it. I spend a few min searching the forum and looking in the FAQ.

    I’m planing a social media site that will be ran off BuddyPress. I’ve decided to wait for WordPress 3.0 as I’m in no hurry to rush the site and with the merge of WP and WP mu sounds like it’ll make installing a fresh site a lot easier.

    I was wonder if someone could let me know some of the differences between installing BuddyPress on a standard WordPress installation and a MU one. I would like to allow users to have their own profile and possibly their own blog which I assume would need MU to have a format like username.example.net but I could be wrong. Are standard installs more for single users/blog writers and the MU install for multi contributor (aka mini site) websites?

    Thank you so much for all the time everyone puts into this!

    Hey BNJ,

    You’re lucky that this also happened to me!

    Read up on what I did to overcome this:

    https://mu.wordpress.org/forums/topic/15553?replies=7#post-89067

    [EDIT]

    You say you did a completely clean WPMU install, so I’m not sure if the link I posted above will help you.

    Update:

    I got all the categories to show by reverting the install to list all permalinks in the default format. This is not good for SEO or good looking urls but at least half my categories aren’t missing.

    I tried this fix: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/328469?replies=3 and I got nothing but errors.

    I’ve also turned off WP SuperCache to see if this will help.

    I’m using the default theme provided with BP 1.2.1 for the main site.

    At one point while I was still deciding which theme to use on the front I ran Andy’s BuddyPress Template Pack on another theme but then decided to just stay with the default theme in BP 1.2.1 . It was after that I noticed the gravatar/avatar problem. But maybe the problem existed before then?? I don’t know since I didn’t check.

    As I already mentioned I’ve already deleted BP 1.2.1 manually and then manually reinstalled it but still to no avail.

    Do you think it might be something with the default theme?
