  • Problems:

WordPress load order makes it difficult to know if your plugin is loaded before or after BuddyPress.

If your plugin loads before BuddyPress it’s possible your plugin will call BuddyPress functions that aren’t yet loaded.

If your plugin loads after BuddyPress, you cannot attach it to any BuddyPress action to load it because they have all already fired.

    Solution:

    http://codex.buddypress.org/how-to-guides/make-your-plugin-buddypress-aware-v1-2/

BuddyPress introduces an action after all BuddyPress core code is loaded called ‘bp_init’

By checking for the existence of BuddyPress, and attaching your plugin to bp_init if BuddyPress isn’t already loaded, you can ensure that your plugins code is only loaded if BuddyPress is, and is loaded after all BuddyPress functions are available.

There are multiple ways this can be done but this is the simplest of the methods.

I’m trying to make reCaptcha (http://recaptcha.net/plugins/wordpress/) appear in the register page of buddypress, currently it doesn’t appear on either /register or /wp-signup.php and Im stuck. It only appears in the comment section of the main blog.

If it’s not possible to get reCaptcah workign is there an alternative way to prevent spam uers from signing up on wordpress mu?

    Here’s a WPMU / BuddyPress / bbPress integration tutorial:

    http://theeasybutton.com/blog/2009/07/17/integrating-buddypress-wordpress-mu-and-bbpress/

I’ve used this a few times myself.

Do you have the turbo plugin installed on your wordpress-mu?

Sounds like it’s caching if you have to repeat.

Our Buddy Press was down for a couple of months. The blogs that were created during this period are not showing in the blogs list link on the home page. How do I associate the wordpress blog with a members buddy press profile?

There is a multilingual plugin for BP available which does this:

    https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-multilingual/

I don’t know if it’s compatible with the BP 1.1 or the upcoming 1.2. I need this as well so we should look into it then :)

Also take a look at this ticket I made today: https://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/1593

If the “supergroup” feature would be implemented it would mean that you could make different “homes” for different countries/regions and still have a central homepage where all sitewide content is shown.

    Hello,

I’m merging BuddyPress 1.1.3 into an existing wordpress theme on a WPMU 2.8.6 install.

I’m working off a child of my premium theme (Newsport from WooThemes). I copied all of the folders from bp-sn-partent intpo the child them folder, plus the adminbar, userbar and plugin-template php files.

I’ve got thing mostly working well inside the them on the main blog (www.threesheetsnw.com), including the adminbar. However, the admin bar doesn’t display properly on secondary blogs (ie http://www.threesheetsnw.com/lateentry) or in the dashboard on the mainblog.

An admin bar is loaded on the sites, but doesn’t pull the css. Also the admin bar doesn’t show me as logged in on the secondary blogs (even when I’m logged in as admin).

I’ve tried adding the adminbar file to the other themes on those blogs, no luck.

Any ideas on what is wrong and how to fix this?

Is merging the buddypress functions into a child theme part of the problem?

    Many thanks for your help.

WordPress stores posts in database tables of the form wp_x_posts, where x is the blog id. Comments are in wp_x_comments. Time created should be the last column.

Have you looked at the timezone settings for the two blogs that are causing the problems? WordPress > Dashboard > General.

    Hey MrMaz,

Sorry to hear about the drive :/

I am failrly new to bp and your plugin looks to be a winner. I am however encountering a few issues – mainly with the display of the links.

The site can be seen – http://6×9.co.za/

Specifically – the voting options don’t appear to show or work.

On the Admin options under Edit Details –

    Edit Avatar Options

    Edit Advanced Settings

    Do nothing for me :/

Currently running on WordPress MU 2.8.6 and the latest BP release.

ANyways keep up the excellent work. This looks to be an awesome plugin.

    Thanks for the info.

Maybe I should just stick with bbpress.

An unrelated question: If I want to make my blog and bbpress install look the same, how could I do that? Is there someone I can hire? I don’t know where to find someone who can do that.

Some pointers (check the other two threads in the forum directory 1st page for more info):

    1) BP supports single WP in the latest trunk – http://trac.buddypress.org. Currently still in development but is due out fairly soon.

    2) BP uses bbpress forums internally. If you don’t require the extra features of BP I’d suggest just using bbpress :)

I want to incorporate a forum into my blog (www.chengduliving.com) and since bbPress is out of development, I’d like to use BuddyPress. The problem is that my blog is running on ordinary WordPress, not WordPress MU!

If I make another installation of WordPress MU will the two be able to integrate? Some help is greatly appreciated, I’m a newbie.

    #60719

    1. BP trunk already supports 2.9.1, and 1.2 will as well.

    2. BP trunk works very well on WordPress 2.9.1 (not MU)

    3. Don’t expect WP3.0 until at least June, if not later. The WordPress dev cycle is aiming for new versions every six months.

    r-a-y’s been paying attention. :)

I would recommend staying away from the trunk version of WordPress (single) at the moment. The WPMU trunk currently contains the most up to date WPMU 2.9.1 version, it just hasn’t been officially released yet.

The easiest way would be to create a WordPress page with the slug “subblogs”, applying a page template with the code you listed above.

Tutorial on creating WordPress page templates (if you need it):

I’m almost certain that the problem has to do with items being tagged with timestamps from the future. The function bp_core_time_since() in bp-core.php returns the message [Use GMT Timezone] when the timestamp on an item is greater than the value returned by the core PHP function time().

The timestamp for blog comment and for blog entrie activity comes from the timestamp attached to those items in the databases corresponding to the individual blogs. That means that the timestamps on blog entries in at least some wp_x_posts and wp_x_comments blogs are incorrect by at least a few hours. I don’t know how this would happen. You can set timezones on a blog-by-blog basis, but I assume that WP ignores timezone settings when stamping new entries and looks only at GMT unix time.

I’m not sure what to recommend. Go into the database and look at the timestamps on some of those rogue comments and entries. Verify that they are indeed incorrect. If they are, then you’re looking at a WordPress problem. Try making sure that those blogs are set to the correct time zone (Dashboard > General, I think) and see if the problem persists.

    Hey Guys,

I’ve managed to get an install on WordPress MU + Buddypress + Facbeook Connect up and running. I’ve set up Forums and bp says everything is working right.

BUT – and maybe I’m being stupid here – where do I set up Forums? I.e. provide the initial category structure for everything to work within? From a user perspective I see no options to actually create a post.

You can’t; this is a result of the blog IDs being set by an auto-increment primary key integer in the MySQL database. You could do something like export the database, drop the table (wp_sites, or something), create the table again and re-import your data.

However I am not sure of the consequence on WordPress of this being done so not recommended unless you have time to check all the tables and update references where needed.

    Hi, everyone,

I’ve tried my best to research and solve this problem on my own…to no avail

I have WordPress MU 2.8.6 installed in a subdirectory:

    http://TLD.com/blogs/

I’ve successfully installed BuddyPress 1.1.3 and was able to get *most* of the functionality using the info here:

    http://buddypress.org/forums/topic/can-i-run-non-bp-theme-on-tld-and-bp-theme-on-subdomain-all-on-same-wpmu-install

Unfortunately, all links under “My Account” (Settings, Friends, Activity, etc.) return back to the Buddypress member directory.

Links under “My Blogs” and “Blog Authors” work fine.

Can anyone help me out here?

    May thanks in advance!

@wordpressfan Are you looking for an events plugin thad adds not only events and a calendar but lets people rsvp and “attend” events? If so, You can use Erwin’s http://www.erwingerrits.com/?page_id=799 or head on over to the wpmu.org crew and throw down money for theirs (not an endorsement since the make you pay without even a test drive, not my game)

    FYI

My issue is basic. Old stuff is staying at the top of the activity stream and not moving down as it should.

Why is it stuck up top? All new activity is being placed below the bottom of the stream.

Everything worked fine before I added buddypress, as far as I know of.

I didn’t upgrade from previous versions, it was a complete fresh install

I haven’t activated any other plugins or themes or changed any core files

All links apart from the Home link is reporting 404 error

    My host is names.co.uk
