@mercime
Participant@rharejr as I recall you need to install the plugin https://wordpress.org/plugins/genesis-connect-for-buddypress/ to make your Genesis child theme compatible with BuddyPress.

Member@ugcheleuce WordPress and BuddyPress could handle this no problem. Depending on what features you’d need, you may need to write some custom code or add some plugins.

ParticipantThese notices aren’t “only notices.” They mean that something isn’t coded properly. So obviously I care as it is preventing me from doing my job. I am not afraid of strict standards messages as I have fixed any that exist within my own projects. Dismissal of an issue does not fix it.
Here is a better solution: https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/5108

Member@robg48 – this could well be half of the solution you’re looking for when importing stuff from WP to BP. Although there’s no mention of a user import (just blog posts).

Edit: Just came across the following – please note i’ve not tested it.

ParticipantI was able to get this (create a link to the post author’s BP profile) to work using Boones suggestion here http://wordpress.stackexchange.com/questions/43528/how-to-get-a-buddypress-user-profile-link-and-a-certain-user-profile-field-for-t
To get it to work in the sidebar (running Genesis and the Content Aware Sidebar plugin) I had to use the code below to pull the author id outside the loop. I am strictly an amateur but this may be where folks are having trouble adding a link in sidebars, plugins or widgets?
If you are like me, and not a coder, below is the exact code I used:
<?php $temp_post = get_post($post_id); $user_id = $temp_post->post_author; $author_bp_profile = bp_core_get_user_domain( $user_id ); ?><a href="<?php echo $author_bp_profile;?>">View the author's profile</a>October 17, 2013 at 6:35 pm #173007In reply to: BP site slow to load
October 17, 2013 at 11:32 am #172984In reply to: BP site slow to load
Henry
Member@jf_trumpet what exactly is running slow? If the site is accessible you can run it through the Pingdom speed check at http://tools.pingdom.com to see what resource is loading slowly.
WordPress is very zippy as it arrives out of the box – try deactivating BuddyPress to see if there is any improvement in load speed. That way you’ll know if it is in fact BP that’s the problem.
The best way to tackle the problem is to narrow it down.

Henry
MemberBuddyPress doesn’t rely on 3rd-party support as far as I know. oEmbed support is provided by WordPress.
Take YouTube for example. If you paste a YouTube video’s link into your blog post, your WordPress blog (the consumer) will make a request to YouTube (the provider). YouTube then responds with an oEmbed response. The HTML therefore gets pulled from the provider’s server.
That is how I understand the process to work. Hope it helps.

Thanks!October 16, 2013 at 6:18 pm #172947In reply to: Suffusion Theme Compatibility Problems
hughshields
ParticipantThanks for the reply. I did this already last night and tested Buddypress with the theme and none of the controls for Suffusion are working; formatting, layout, widgets…none of it works.
I also tested this out on another test site where the same thing happened. So it appears that Suffusion is not compatible with Buddypress.
I thought that with WordPress 3.6.1 template packs were going to be made obsolete. Does this not apply to Buddypress?
The solution is to install the Suffusion Buddypress Pack but this pack is outdated and doesnt appear to be getting any support. When I asked about missing template files they told me on the support forum that template packs were not needed. So I’m going in a circle π
Any solutions or ideas welcome. Or maybe a recommendation for a better theme that works with Buddypress.October 16, 2013 at 5:50 pm #172944In reply to: BP site slow to load

Participanthi @o0s0o,
deTube is a premium theme, so do’t expect help about here here. You have to ask on the ThemeForest forum.
> iβm using BP 1.8 and donβt see any calls to the sidebar in any of the BP templates.
BP 1.8+ fits to any WP theme, so what you want to do depends of your theme, not of BP.That said, all BP templates have calls to the sidebar.
If you open index.php for exemple, in the bp-default theme, you will see at the end of the file
get_sidebar();
The sidebar code is in sidebar.phpTo apply a condition for a sidebar to be shown you can use
if is_page():
get_sidebar;
endif;WP Codex:
is_page
get_sidebardeTube has many option and also a sidebar.

You can try this:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-content-filter/
and try patching it like this:

Let us know if that works out. The only other option I see is a paid service:

Participant@buddhatunes Are you using a bp-default child theme or a WordPress theme? And which BP or WP page are you referring to?

ParticipantThank you very much for your response.
I have found few as follows:
This one is also multi-site enabled: http://themify.me/themes/pinboard
Also like this one: http://ipinpro.ericulous.com/
Pinstgram: http://demo.mythemeshop.com/s/?theme=Pinstagram
Note: I am researching more because I want these to be used for news posting and sharing by users. So really need to make sure that users are able to easily do it.

Participanthi @trinzia,
don’t ask here about YOUR security settings ! We are not reading in chicken guts or in cristal bowls. π
Also, if you use BP 1.8+, a solution given over a year back cannot work (most of time)
See here an old discussion with a recent answer (2 mounth) – has patch.
But before to do something, check your WP settings if comments are allowed and/or if comments are allowed for your test post (sorry for this, but… nobody’s perfect ! π )
Also, if you cheched site indexing by robots (settings > reading) it may be possible that the comments won’t show up on the activity wall.
Encountered this a few mounth back with bbPress forum answers on a bp 1.7/bbp 2.3 installOctober 15, 2013 at 8:36 pm #172893In reply to: Activity Stream post voting/sorting
danbp
ParticipantBP has no post, it’s WP. π
BP has no rating system, so you need to create it first or use a rating plugin for the blog posts. And probably the votes won’t show up in the activities. I’m afraid that what you want will need some custom coding. πCan’t help you more, but here are some usefull resource.

Participant@kakilo Hi Henry,
not exactly what you asking for, but it’s a solution who narrows.
Consider this plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/bp-avatar-suggestions/October 15, 2013 at 1:22 pm #172875In reply to: Use standard WordPress registration

ParticipantWill do, @Henry. The other bad news (for me) is that I disabled BuddyPress and tried the RegLevel plugin and found it’s not compatible with WP 3.6.1. But I’ll still try it in functions.php as I may get lucky and find a plugin that allows role level registration.
Thanks.
October 15, 2013 at 1:03 pm #172872In reply to: Use standard WordPress registration

Member@starapple Did you try the function r-a-y wrote?
function my_disable_bp_registration() { remove_action( 'bp_init', 'bp_core_wpsignup_redirect' ); remove_action( 'bp_screens', 'bp_core_screen_signup' ); } add_action( 'bp_loaded', 'my_disable_bp_registration' );You’d need to remove all the code you’ve added first then try adding that to your theme’s functions.php file.

Participant@Henry, thanks for your help. When I use the
firmasite_redirect_bp_signup_pagefunction I’m redirected to /wp-signup.php with the message about the loop. When I delete the function I’m redirected to the BuddyPress login/registration, which, on my site is /login. So yes, WP login is redirecting to the BddyPress login/registration.I haven’t been able to disable WP redirecting to BuddyPress.
