    In reply to: Can't make groups

    The button was showing yesterday.

    Yes, it would show up in BP Default theme, Twenty Ten Eleven Twelve and Thirteen, and all other themes which have the page title template tag within the WordPress loop. If your button doesn’t show up, then you’d either have to add the code to your theme file e.g. example.com/groups/create (just need to add /create to URL). Or, if you’re feeling adventurous, add link to create a group in toolbar apply patch per this trac ticket https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/1838

    @tosen the only other media plugin I know which is compatible with BuddyPress and which allows media (photo, video, audio) uploads via post update box in Activity Stream is the premium BP Gallery plugin http://buddydev.com/plugins/bp-gallery/

    There’s a free media plugin https://wordpress.org/plugins/buddypress-media/ I haven’t used this plugin so do check if it allows uploads from Activity Stream post update box and which is free and which upload is PRO/premium version.

    @v2006 is WordPress installed in domain root, host-websites.com/, or in subdirectory folder host-websites.com/EM/ ? If the latter, try changing EM to lowercase em

    I replied to you on bbPress.org, but it’s the same answer. The only thing is that BuddyPress is the social network aspect of the plugins whereas bbPress is the forum. You can install both onto your WordPress install and they will take the style of your WordPress theme.

    Depends on your traffic levels but probably you want to get off of shared hosting and move to at least vps. If you had multisite, you’d know it believe me upgrading to that is not typically difficult but i would move your hosting first. Personally i would never use windows hosting for wordpress (or any other time i had a choice).

    This was happening to me for the longest time on here and bbPress.org, but it seems to have fixed itself now. It was always fine on WordPress.org.

    I removed the github version in favor of using the version in the official WP repository which has been improved. You can get it here:

    Hi! I tried with the plugin indicated by @chouf1 https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/network-privacy/ but it doesn’t work properly (it let you see groups and members!) and the link provided by @bphelp doesn’t work 🙁
    Is there any other plugin option?

    Just posting back with the solution in case it helps anyone else. This function will do it:
    xprofile_get_field_data('Profile',$u_id);

    In my case it’ll be:

    <?php if ( xprofile_get_field_data( 'Profile', $user_ID ) ) : ?>
         <?php echo xprofile_get_field_data( 'Profile', $user_ID ); ?>
    <?php endif; ?>

    Thanks to chifliiiii on WordPress Answers and to @shanebp.

    I see. I apologize, I am fairly new to this forum thing. Let’s try this again…Hi everyone, I am currently trying to create a buddypress network, where members can either join for free, or receive more options by joining a paid membership program. The free members are able to post whatever they choose, and receive achievements/badges for doing so. The problem i have is, my wordpress theme is centered around minisites that are all created using custom post types. Also, the custom post types allow me create beautiful reviews, award badges and ratings, but only on my wp-back end. I am relatively new at coding, and this framework is definitely a template (industrial themes-flavor to be exact.) I would like to find a way to basically add the custom post capability (hopefully enough to match at least some of the functionality that i see on the backend) to the front user end of buddypress. That way, members can write reviews and award ratings/badges to the products they like, but not have to log into my backend. I know this might seem far-fetched, and Im sure there is a lot of work to make happen. However, I would at least like to try and start somewhere. So, on that note, if anyone has any idea,solution,experience with buddypress and custom post types, i would love to hear any insight, and would greatly appreciate any help. Without giving away all of the details, my goal is to create a network where users can basically buy/sell/share/create custom post type articles/products and be rewarded for doing tasks/events. Also, I would like to create an affiliate network within the model, where members that would like to have more than just a fun experience, be able to make a profit off of writing/sharing/click throughs, etc. So, finally, if I can’t find the help i need to slowly create this model myself, I am also willing to hear out anyone that might be interested in developing this network. I am sure that last statement was probably supposed to be placed somewhere else and not here, but I figured Id chance it in hopes to find anyone willing to help. Thank you for your time everyone, and may you all have a blessed wordpress/buddypress operating system.

    @bp-help yeah, I am running WordPress SEO by Yoast as well as one mod but will need to check the one you listed and suss it out.
    The site has social sharing coming out of the kazoo. So I still haven’t found whatever it is that people find attractive in a Community such as the one I’m trying to get going and build up.

    Are you using WordPress SEO plugin in conjuction with this fix from BuddyDev:

    Making WordPress SEO plugin compatible with BuddyPress

    It also helps having links to your site from other popular social networks as well as linking back. I am not an expert on SEO I just know what worked for me in the past.

    I suggest you use http://serverpress.com to easily install WordPress and then the plugin BuddyPress

    @gcarlos8377 Where did you install WordPress – domain root, physical subdomain or subdirectory folder? What’s in the .htaccess file of you multisite installation? Where is BP installed in the main site of your network or in subsite? does your registration work if BuddyPress is deactivated?

    In reply to: Can't create Groups

    @mercime

    @daniel-alonso could be that your page title is not within the WP loop. Appending /create to the groups directory URI will help you get to the Groups Create page. e.g. example.com/groups to example.com/groups/create

    Or, if you’re feeling adventurous, you can add the code to your My Account section of the WP Toolbar https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/1838

    You really need to do a little more research on this topic because it will give you a better understanding of WP and BP. The short answer to this is Yes you need to install WordPress because BuddyPress is a plugin that extends WordPress. There is lots of info in the codex of WP and BP. There is also lots of video tutorials on YouTube. Google is your friend as well. Good luck!
