In reply to: Buddypress version of wordpress 'mystique' theme?

Participant@anaxent it’s working fine on my test install http://mystique.bp-theme-converts.com/activity/ I did make a few changes before making the zip so I could have left out a closing div maybe?
Do you have an URL I can see?May 30, 2010 at 11:48 pm #80149In reply to: Buddypress version of wordpress 'mystique' theme?

MemberI have tried to use the theme with in the current zip above and all is well except for the activity stream. seems a container is not properly closed as the footer is cramed to the right and stops 1/2 way through the stream the rest of the stream over laps into the background

Participant@andrea_r http://mystique.bp-theme-converts.com/downloads/buddypressmystique.zip
It’s not perfect, main problem being the Mystique JS conflicts with the BuddyPress JS so I have disabled Mystique JS on BuddyPress pages.
The problem with this is the Mystique tabbed widget no longer works on BuddyPress pages, so I set to display none on those pages.
If you know of a way to disable the widget on those pages, please let me know.May 30, 2010 at 7:17 pm #80140In reply to: Buddypress version of wordpress 'mystique' theme?

@mercime
ParticipantThis plugin works for me in WPMU install, haven’t tested in WP3.0 multisite. You would need to upload just the plugin file (no need to upload plugin folder) to mu-plugins. Then, although it was not mentioned in instruction, log out, refresh browser and log back in again. See this screenshot for the Settings (Site Admin > Invites) and Invites (Dashboard > Invite). As Chris mentioned, if you’re using bp-default or a child theme of bp-default, invitation template tags will automatically be added in template per your setting via Site Admin > Invites – Edit Settings link.

MemberThis is the main or even only reason I chose to to use wordpress mu. I really need an invite only registration and this plugin is perfect. Please if someone could help me set this up I’d be extremely appreciative.
I’m sure @lpapworth would appreciate all the help as well.
Thanks,

ParticipantI doubt they are using WordPress pages. Would be a pretty odd thing to do creating a bunch of fake pages to mask the URLs for the different BP sections.

ParticipantYes, my WordPress 2.9.2 works just fine without buddyPress (what’s why i post here).
Just for now I use WordPress 3.0 RC1 and BuddyPress 1.2.4.1. Thanks God, it works!May 30, 2010 at 10:04 am #80116In reply to: Vertical group menu in WP 3.0

ParticipantThe problem with Nicey is that it’s a child theme which uses bp-sn-parent theme and it doesn’t exist in BP 1.2.4.1 anymore.
“The screen shot you see was for version 1.x in which buddypress bp-sn-parent theme had vertical menu and so had bp-nicey(It is a child theme)
In current version of buddypress the parent theme does not offer a vertical menu and so it is not in bp-nicey.
Please take a look at the backward compatibility plugin and bp-sn-parent theme for the vertical menu.”
http://buddydev.com/buddypress/bp-nicey-a-simple-and-clean-child-theme-for-buddypress/comment-page-1/#comment-1695Backward compatibility plugin (https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-backwards-compatibility/) disables link functionality from main menu in my installation, so it’s not an option. Not compatible with WP3 just yet? Re-factoring and css creation doesn’t sound like an easy solution either

KeymasterBP would benefit from some table reduction.
Andy and I talked at WordCamp San Fran about how some components would benefit greatly from using the posts table, like Private Messages and Groups. Other components like XProfile would be more tricky and may not see any performance improvements, but would still be doable similar to the WP3.0 Menus.
So, it’s a likely direction, but don’t quote me yet.

KeymasterI could be wrong, but I’m guessing the bp.org site is running a bleeding-edge version of BuddyPress, since it appears that URLs like /communitiy/members are using WordPress pages.
My advice? Wait for BP 1.3.

ParticipantFront end creation will prove critical and make the next generation of buddypress way more usable and flexible. If users have to go to a blog dashboard to do something as simple as share a photo or a movie review (examples of custom post types), it’s going to turn people off.
We need front end ability…and, come to think of it…we need it for regular old-fashioned blog posts too.

brianglanz
Participant@boonebgorges and his work may help with both
1. Under BuddyPress, Profile Field Setup, you can add a new field or field group, including text box type fields. As stated on that admin page, “Any fields in the first group will appear on the signup page.” An URL entered will be picked up as a link in the profile’s public view.
While setting up profile fields, have a look at Custom Profile Filters for BuddyPress https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/custom-profile-filters-for-buddypress/ with which, among other features “Administrators can specify certain profile fields that link to social networking profiles.”
2. See BuddyPress External Group Blogs https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/external-group-blogs/ with which individual users might include RSS in group and site activity streams even without blogs being enabled. See BP External Activity https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-external-activity/ for more admin options, or even FeedWordPress https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/feedwordpress/ for user blogs.

Keymaster1) Wherever your bbPress theme is, add a functions.php. eg. my-templates/MY-BB-THEME/functions.php… if you’re using Kakumei, then it would be /bb-templates/kakumei/functions.php.
2) The path has to be an absolute filepath and not a URL. eg. /var/www/wp-content/uploads/avatars/. I’ve tried to guess where your WordPress install is using $_SERVER, but you might need to adjust this for your particular install.May 29, 2010 at 5:58 pm #80067In reply to: new version of BuddyPress Rate Forum Posts

KeymasterHave a look at or refer to https://codex.wordpress.org/AJAX_in_Plugins. I’d also suggest you do a find-in-files in BuddyPress for “wp_ajax_” to see how BuddyPress does it.
May 29, 2010 at 3:44 pm #80060Boone Gorges
KeymasterWhat you’re describing is the expected behavior of BP/WPMU. BP is designed to work on a single blog in a WP installation. Additional blogs are more or less totally independent (“more or less” because BP still tracks activity that happens on those blogs).
You might be able to do what you’re trying to do with a plugin like https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wpmu-new-blog-defaults/, which lets site/super admins determine defaults on new blogs. You could set your home theme as the default.
If you want to offer child themes, you’ll have to build them. Make them children of your BuddyDress theme, make them available through Site Admin > Themes, and then your users will be able to select them.

ParticipantI think I’ve solved this problem the same as every here has been describing.
After about 3 re-installs and 10 cups of tea, I finally dawned on me like a chisel falling from the grasp of a tired granite mason.
You do indeed need to install at the domain level, this also includes as I have found, the sub-domain level.
1) Create sub-domain. http://www.SUB.DOMAIN.com
2) Fresh wordpress install to your new sub-domain
3) Then Buddypress installHey Presto works, get your self one final cup of your favourite beverage, that you can now take the time to enjoy.
Then get some sleep, you’ve earned it.my twitter is @samuelmunro if it worked for you or didn’t I’d like to know either way.
The above steps takes into account the understanding that you already know your way around cPanel, at least to the same level as me, which boasting aside is about one level higher than that of a monkey with lobotomy.

ParticipantOk, really sorry about this but I’m a complete newbie to wordpress. My host is 1and1 and I have the installation working, but when I try to activate the buddypress plugin I get the 500 error. I see the recommendation here to modify the .htaccess file, but I don’t have one! Any tips?

ParticipantOk i get that in theory but the syntax here isn’t making sense. Got the type conditional to work but can’t echo the secondary_item_id object. I really wish the codex for buddypress was as easy to get info from as the wordpress codex. Thank You so much though… you’re the first person to respond to any of my posts.
