Hi,

Could anyone tell me what features http://wordpress.org/showcase/solo-practice-university/ this site is using ? is it using courseware

Any guidance would be very appreciated as I’m looking to use the same platform they are using but in a completley different niche.

Cheers
Chris

Yes, i know the question has been asked more then once. Why is it that there is no BuddyPress API? i don’t understand how there can be so much plugins, since developers can’t figure out which function or variable does what. Yes, i know there is a skeleton plugin, and no, it doesn’t explain all of the buddypress functionality.
Yes, i know i can use all of wordpress’ functions, hooks and filters, but no ‘m not looking to use them. Why would i use BuddyPress in the first place, if i can also use the wordpress functions hooks and filters? yeah, i wouldn’t. So HOW can i figure out what bp_group_name for example does? Does it take one argument? two? Does it just echo the name of the ‘current’ group? How should i know this? how can i figure out IF there is a buddypress function that takes a group ID and gives me back the name of that group? i really am curious how all you developers figured that out.

I think a lot of developers that are known with other software expect an API, and turn away from BuddyPress because there isn’t one (just saying).

Trying to use Justin’s get_the_image plugin to display post thumbnail on the homepage, but unfortunately its all messed up.
Here is the css :
`div.thumbnail1 {float: left;}`

and the code in index.php :
`

<a href="”>’http://localhost/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/default1.jpg’,’custom_key’ => array( ‘feature_img’ ), ‘size’ => ‘medium’, ‘width’ => ’70’, ‘height’ => ’70’, ‘image_class’ => ‘post_thumbnail’) ); ?>

`

The post excerpt is rendered below the image, though I’d like it to be on the left side. Any idea how to get this working?

TIA

I plan to make an online magazine with wordpress in a subdomain (portal.xxxx.com) and then its community attached in (community.xxxx.com). So I can let certain journalists to make their own blogs with buddypress, and the whole community to grow, with forums, achievements, and so.

It is possible to do this with the same registration database?

It’ll be possible to have all media and post from the magazine to be posted in buddypress?

Hello,
Im running Buddypress in a single installation and trying to install a language but no what waht Ive tried I cant get it to work. I don’t even mind translating the whole thing myself but not even that seems to be having any effect.

Ive tried placing the mo en po files in the bp-languages folder in buddypress and straight in de plugins folder.
Ive renamed the folder my-languages and back to bp-languages.

The entry in bp-config has the name nl_NL, my language file is nl_NL.mo and nl_NL.po
Nothing seems to work.
Wordpress is already running in the correct language.
Anybody any hints on what Im doing wrong?

What versions of WordPress and BuddyPress are you using, please?

As forums are provided totally by bbPress, it’s a possibility that as you can’t access the bbPress admin, you can’t set its time like you do with WordPress. Hmm.

EDIT: if you want to try a totally crazy “fix” which I have not even verified the problem exists, let alone the cause, try creating a new record in your wp_bb_meta table as follows:
object_type = bb_option
object_id = 0
meta_key = gmt_offset
meta_value = ? (set this to a number for the timezone offset, i.e. “1” for central european time)

I would like to move our buddypress site. This is the scenario: We have bp running on a subdomain with multisite enabled on the main site. Our main site is http://howtomakeadesignerhandbag.com . Buddypress is on subdomain http://community.howtomakeadesignerhandbag.com . I understand from my hosting service, hostgator, that buddypress is using a wild card subdomain. I want to move it to a “real” (for lack of a better word) subdomain also called http://community.howtomakeadesignerhandbag.com . Will I have any problems if I move it like I would a regular wordpress install? Of course on the “real” subdomain there will be a fresh install of wordpress. My goal is to have buddypress completely independent of our main site – separate wordpress install, separate database, etc. It’s a pretty active community so we want to ensure we don’t lose any data. We need to disable multisite/buddypress on our main site due to a conflict with an important membership plugin. Thanks in advance.

For the alternative method, use Rich’s block activity types plugin:

I have a site that’s been working pretty well and, to my knowledge nothing significant has changed in our configuration but Filters no longer work when switching to another filter.

When I examine the browser using Firebug I see two requests to wp-load.php going out. The first is listed as “Aborted” while the second appears to be a good request and response. The nasty part is that the browser then goes into a infinite loop of Javascript errors prattling about “null response” and the page never updates.

I’d appreciate clues on how to debug this further — it’s rather embarrassing to not have this work and more than a little confusing as to what the root cause might be.

WordPress 3.0.2, BuddyPress 1.2.6 (and, of course, more plugins than I care to mention but will happily disclose if it’ll help). I’m using a tweaked version of the “Custom Community” theme by Sven Lehner

This is similar to the problem in:
http://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/javascript-errors-in-members-section/
but there was no specific response in that thread (well… it points to a site that I can’t access.)

I get the same amount of spam on my site. I’m currently deleting one spammer every 10 minutes, and I am not sharing anything with official WordPress sites. Something is going on with Buddy/Word and someone needs to dig into it because this is insane. It isn’t just this site. It’s the code somewhere. I’m sure it’s WordPress because I have a wordpress only site running and the sign-up spam is ridiculous there too. I am not joking when I say every 10 minutes either. I’m freaking out.

I’ve just tried to integrate Buddy Press into a custom template I built for my sit STRAYOutdoors.com, but I’m having trouble with the Member Buttons that members use to connect with each other.

When a member tries to “Send Private Message” or “Mention this User” they are redirected to the latest blog post. Also, when a member tries to “Add Friend” they get a message that a message on the page that says “Friendship could not be requested.”

I’m running WordPress 3.0.3 and BuddyPress 1.2.6. I used BuddyPress Template Pack 1.0.2 to add BP functionality to my theme. I’m using a number plugins, but would rather not disable them as I’m working on a live site (yes, I know, bad idea, but it’s still a small site, so the stakes are fairly low).

These functions remained broken when I switched to using the default BuddyPress theme also, which makes me think it’s something to do with a plugin. (Does anyone know of any know plugin conflicts that might cause this?)

I’ve looked around, but haven’t had any luck finding an answer.

@manimaranvel BuddyPress can only be activated once in either the main site or a secondary blog of a WP Multisite installation – there is no BP multisite at this time. If you allowed your members to create own blogs and then want to show the member profile in his/her blog, you can use a plugin – https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-profile-widget-for-blogs/

99% who help out here in the BP forums are volunteers. On a very rare day, someone might come into the forums and make a long long list of all that they need for a BP site and get spoonfed with all the answers in one go, though I haven’t seen that happen totally. I know you expect answers that’s why you go to the forums but on our end, we expect that you did some research on your own as well. If you want simple BP/WP install, it’s all easy (assuming you have good server). But If you want fully customized BP install, the learning curve is medium high if you’ve got WP experience.
BP Codex – https://codex.buddypress.org/home/
BP compatible plugins – https://buddypress.org/extend/

Back to Woo’s City Guide Theme, I only mentioned that theme because I saw it just before I saw your post here – CITY GUIDE. Also, as I mentioned before in post above, you would need to install BP Template Pack, make necessary changes, and if you have HTML/CSS/WordPress theming knowledge, it’ll be a breeze. You could choose whatever WP theme you want and install BP Template Pack or get a free BuddyPress theme or go for a premium BuddyPress theme with free support.

please somebody help me on this… i love buddy and wordpress but i don’t have the time now to study again from the beggining the multisite installation. there will be more questions, i made a local installation so i need for sure time on mu site and time now is a big issue. For now please somebody point me on this “simple” thing i ask: maybe it would be more easy to do the opposite? let’s say that i want to user to fill the wp’s fields Yahoo,IM.msn but into bp’s profile. Is this possible? I’m so confused plz help/ .

That’s nothing to do with BuddyPress. “Subscriber” is the default WordPress role. However, I’m assuming these users have had their account activated?

In reply to: BP Sections?

That “section” could be a “group” component already in WordPress and joining groups is either voluntary for public groups or by invitation for private groups and each group can have a forum if the group admin so chooses. That’s basic behavior which can be changed via a plugin you can make to do so. You could check out BuddyPress Group component and other default components by logging in http://testbp.org/ with the username and password you used here.

@pakhermawan that would certainly be an interesting project. Install BP Template Pack plugin and follow instructions on screen. Some BP Codex articles might help you along the way:

I am using Simple Facebook COnnect,. It DOES allow users to connect FB and WP, but I want them to be able to sign up using BuddyPress, not just WP. So when users hit “register” on my BuddyPress theme, there is a connect button, not just when they go to wp-login.

Any ideas?
