Hi, I was wondering if the BuddyPress Template Pack http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-template-pack/ really makes any WP theme compatible with BuddyPress. As I would like to purchase a not free premium theme I want to be sure this plugin works well. Thanks for your help.

    Hi guys,

I have been developing a social community portal for myself and my friends. Everything was working perfectly till yesterday. But suddenly something went wrong and profile link, Edit link, change avtar link stopped working. They all started redirecting to home page.

I have added some custom fields to registration and changed base profile group name. I am not sure what else would be causing this error. I am using latest version of wordpress and was using olde version of buddypress but after this problem there was a suggestion about upgrading buddypress. I did so still the problem persists.

Please guide me what could be the problem. I have searched through the forum but i havent found any solution for this problem as such.

    Regards,
    Sam.

Try renaming your plugins folder to “pluginsoff”. Then try to access your wordpress admin. If you can then access the admin then change the plugins folder back to “plugins”

Hi, my wordpress is down currently. At first, I downloaded and uploaded the buddypress-mobile to the folder /wp-content/plugins/. After I activated the buddypress-mobile, I was told to install the buddypress main plugin. Then I downloaded the file from this website and uploaded to that folder again /wp-content/plugins/, and activate also the buddypress. Once I press the activate button, my wordpress website was down till now. I have tried to delete the buddypress folder and reinstall it, still not work! Can you suggest? please…. I am using the zymichost!

the problem for us IS with the theme. we were using the simple wp communty theme which may mean its a compatabilty issue between buddypress and a wp theme. the odd thing is that it worked for the past two months. its not a plug in issue. we could reinstall buddypress and wordpress but we’re afraid we’ll lose all site content.

You need to revise HTML structure in BP templates transferred to your active theme in Step Three of the compatibility process. Plus copy some styling from bp-default’s style.css and adjust to taste.

Hello! I work in user experience design, and I’m considering buddypress for some projects, but I don’t have experience with the versatility of its plugins. So, I pose you some questions about which plugins do you recommend for a specific scenario:

Say we have a new project, to create a buddypress site for a social city guide:
    – Users should upload multimedia content to admin-created group albums, and rate each other’s photos, videos, etc.
    – There should be an admin review section with subsections for topics such as restaurants, stores, etc.
    – Members should be able to post member reviews (maybe a personal blog) for places in the city.
    – BlogPosts should be made in the user front, not in wordpress backend. However, (unlick Quickpress)blogposts in the front end should include pictures, not just text. Same with comments and replies to posts.
    – An interactive map would be great!. But for this project, located in countries where most addresses are not included in current google maps, so, which maps could have content updated by users?
    – I plan on using the Achievements plugin to create social rewards for actions in the guide and in the city, any advice?

Alright. If you have any comments regarding this scenario, and comments about plugins, extensions, and your experience with city guides, everything will be very appreciated! Thanks!

Hello, I’m new at Buddypress world but a “Veteran” in wordpress self hosted.

In Buddypress there is something that i don’t understand.

In a Buddypress installation without multisite enable, user can create blog posts in my self hosted buddypress site? and appear in the activity tab?

If yes, how can i do that? With a special plugin?

    Thank you

My BuddyPress setup was all fine until I move it to a new hosting company. Running on WordPress 3.0.1 and BuddyPress 1.2.6
When the new user get the activation key URL and click on it he’s getting a 500 server error, if you refresh the page then you have the option to enter manually the activation key. Unfortunately even trying manually he doesn’t active the account. Anyone seen the same issue? Could it be a file permission issue or something not set properly on the server?

Hi (and thank you in advance for your replies),

I initially posted this to the WordPress forum, but after further investigation, it appears that the important code might be in BuddyPress… I have the Members Widget in my left sidebar, and I have 3 quick questions:

    1. Can I show the members names without showing their images next to them? (I thought to configure the widget. but I don’t see an option for this).

    2. Sometimes the members in the list are indented, and other times they are vertically aligned as they should be. Is there something I can do to ensure they are always aligned correctly? It appears to be a bug.

    3. How I can change the size of the thumbnails shown in the Members widget.

Platform: I am using WordPress 3.0.1 with the current version of BuddyPress, the PageLines Platform Theme and several WordPress plug-ins, including BuddyPress Theme Compatibility.

    Thank you!

I forgot to add it’s something we’re adding to BuddyPress 1.3, however.

Hello (and thanks in advance for your replies),

I have disabled Friends in BuddyPress Component Setup, I am now seeing the error below on my Members Directory page. Any idea how to resolve this (other than enabling Friends).

Fatal error: Call to undefined function bp_member_add_friend_button() in …/htdocs/wordpress/wp-content/themes/platform/members/members-loop.php on line 52

I am using WordPress 3.0.1 with the current version of BuddyPress, the PageLines Platform Theme and several WordPress plug-ins.

    Thanks!

Other than site admin checks, BuddyPress doesn’t use or check for specific roles or capabilities anywhere. So, in terms of regular users, there is no difference between a subscriber and a contributor for the BuddyPress features.

Hi (and thanks in advance for your replies):

I am new to the software stack, but I just now successfully installed and configured WordPress 3.0.1 with the current version of BuddyPress, the PageLines Platform Theme and several WordPress plug-ins.

My goal is to have a private community site, and I seem to have that now, but I’d like to understand the relationship between WordPress roles and BuddyPress members. If my goal with this site is primarily to support members who participate in group discussions and perhaps comment on articles that I post (as a WordPress admin or author), should I only give those users Subscriber roles? It’s not clear to me what BuddyPress members are allowed to do independently or dependent of their WordPress user role status. I’d appreciate a little explanation.

    Thank you.

Did you search Google for an existing WordPress plugin? https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/google-transliteration/ is one I found after a quick search. You could use that as a starting point for figuring out how to extend support to wherever you want in BuddyPress.

No, it hasn’t. Why would a BP plugin reinvent blog posting when that’s the main purpose of WordPress?

    #16736

I am looking to have a simple blog functionality for my users on buddypress.. but I dont want to take it to the extreme of using wordpress mu, are there any simple plugins? i thought buddypress had a user blog plugin before?

To add a friend, simply navigate to a member profile you want to become friends with and click on the “Add Friend” button. The requested member gets an email notification asking whether or not to accept the friendship.

Please go and test BuddyPress thoroughly on http://testbp.org, then come back here for any help.

For blogs, you need to enable WordPress’ network mode:
    https://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network

When you have that setup, BuddyPress automatically detects this and adds a blog directory. There should be a button to create a blog on that page as well as on the registration page.

(Sidenote: me thinks we need a BP codex article to setup the blogs component)

To customize the welcome email, try Paul Gibbs’ Welcome Pack plugin:

    Hi guys !

As WordPress and most of all BuddyPress is becoming more and more social, there SHOULD be a way in WordPress to post from the frontend.

I wrote a plugin for this(One Quick Post – http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/one-quick-post/), but I think it should be developped really further.

Basically, my idea was that this should be able to
    -handle custom types & taxonomies
-allow guest posting (mapped to a “guest” user); with a secret key to allow the user to edit his post later
-load any meta box from the backend, so it would have to be registered only once and could be called the same way by the frontend or the backend.
Some filters could remove/add specific stuff for the frontend.

I posted this as an idea on wordpress.org, please vote for it !

Try the BuddyPress Moderation plugin. I think you’ll like it.

I built this https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-lotsa-feeds/ but it doesn’t provide exactly the feed you’re looking for. I’ll file it as an enhancement ticket and maybe get around to it one of these days.
