In reply to: [Resolved] Is this the correct Registration Page?
@mercime
ParticipantDid you just upgrade your installation or is this a new install? For the former, there has been no change in the registration template in the upgrade from BP 1.5.4 to BP 1.5.5. Beyond the registration page, have you tried changing to bp-default theme and check if registration works then?

Participantps. having scanned though the buddypress source code i’ve just found a clue to what the problem maybe:
file: bp-blogs-function.php
function: bp_blogs_record_comment
– takes a parameter ‘is_approved’ – if it is false, then blog comments are NOT added to BP activity stream.
this suggests that WP comments are ONLY recorded in BP activity stream IFF comments are wide open and ‘automatically approved’/’do not require approval’. If on the other hand, comments are set as ‘requiring admin/moderator approval’ (as they most usually will be), then they will NOT EVER be posted to BP activity stream
this seems to be confirmed by the appearance of a NEW function on the forthcoming BP 1.6. The new function is:
bp_blogs_transition_activity_status
– and its purpose seems to be to enable WP comments status to appear on BP activity stream WHEN/IFF admin/moderator approves them.
please could someone confirm this is the case?
is there any workaround for BP V 1.5.4?
many thanks

KeymasterI don’t think we can just ignore the -2 issue, because I think that it points to a larger confusion between `user_nicename` and `user_login` on your installation. I’m not sure what kind of further debugging can be easily done at this point, though, without direct access to your system. I guess I would check a couple of things if this were my system:
– Drop some debug `var_dump()`s around https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/tags/1.5.4/bp-core/bp-core-catchuri.php#L239, to see how BP is determining your displayed user ID
– Check directly in your database to see if there is some strangeness in the way that your user_nicename is defined in wp_users. The nicename should not contain capital letters or spaces, though user_login can.March 22, 2012 at 12:35 am #131763benstacey
Member– WP/BP versions?
WP 3.3.1 / BP 1.5.4
– WP Installed in root.
– WP Multisite = Subdirectory.
– Windows or Linux server? Not sure.
– Is this a new installation or an old one where you recently installed BP? I recentley installed buddy press on an old one.
– Check folder permissions via CHMOD, what are they?
Not sure which folders to check.
– What other plugins are activated in your secondary site with BP?
The primary site has quite a few plugins. As far I know I have to activate them as “Network activated” for them to work So i suppose the ones that are on the primary are also active on the secondary.Here’s the list of plugins i’m currently using on the primary site at least. I only really need to use buddy press and some sort of albums plugin on the secondary.
Add multiple users v1.2.2
Akismet v2.5.5
BM Custom Login v1.6.5
Buddypress v1.5.4
Buddypress Album v 0.1.8.11
Contact Form 7 v3.1.1
Dynamic Widgets v1.5.0
Events made easy v1.0.2
Facebook Comments for WordPress v3.1.3
Hello Dolly v1.6
Image Widget v3.3.2
Options Framework v1.0
Regenerate Thumbnails v2.2.3
Relevanssi v2.9.14
Simple add pages or posts v1.6
Tube Press v1.6
WSA Favicon v1.0– On the primary site i’m using Block by Organic themes. On the secondary i’m using Angus by epicthemes.

ParticipantMy BuddyPress, a bp-default child theme, has not been updated for version BP 1.5
Compare the header.php of the My BuddyPress” theme to that of bp-default theme’s header.php where the old links in My BuddyPress have not been updated, among other things.

@mercime
Participant@frostdawn suggestion is to upgrade your BP Corporate Theme.
If you feel like tackling the issue yourself, install two plugins: Log Deprecated Notices plugin and the Theme Check plugin. For the first plugin, you will see if there are deprecated template tags with the replacement template tags after a minute or so.
For Theme Check, take care of the results posted with “Warnings” and “Required” items if any. No need to worry about the “Recommended” or “info” issues. if any
March 19, 2012 at 11:44 pm #131639In reply to: How to edit Activity item layout?
@mercime
Participant#1) – If the user clicks on the date of an activity item re a blog post, the user is brought to the single blog post .
– If the user clicks on the date of an activity item re a forum topic, the user is brought to the forum topic page
– If the user click clicks on the date of other activity items, the user is brought to members/single/activity/permalink.php page. You could add HTML structure just after get_header as well as just before get_footer.#2) You can tackle that by adding something this at the bottom of your stylesheet:
`div.activity-header p a.activity-time-since {
clear: left;
float: left;
margin-left: 15px;
margin-top: -30px;
}
.activity-inner > p:first-child {
margin-top: 20px;
word-wrap: break-word;
} `
Adjust to tasteMarch 19, 2012 at 6:34 pm #131617In reply to: Remove Members Tab on group pages and link
@mercime
Participant@locustfist To remove “Members” tab on Group Pages, per @boonebgorges BP 1.5 update: add the following to your theme’s functions.php
`function locustfist_remove_group_member_tab() {
bp_core_remove_subnav_item( bp_get_current_group_slug(), ‘members’ );
}
add_action( ‘bp_setup_nav’, ‘locustfist_remove_group_member_tab’, 15 );`To get rid of the member count of the Group Directory Page
– download groups-loop.php from here
– change line #61 from ` / ` to “ thereby removing the member count
– upload groups-loop.php to your server wp-content/themes/your-theme-folder/groups/groups-loop.phpMarch 19, 2012 at 3:12 pm #131602In reply to: ‘View’ page is blank

March 18, 2012 at 11:39 pm #131574In reply to: Link author image to member profile

ParticipantYou’d have to tweak your theme’s single.php, archive.php, index.php and/or loop.php and change regular WP author template tags to that of BP user template tags as seen in bp-default’s index.php, single.php and archive.php for example.
March 18, 2012 at 2:33 pm #131563In reply to: User requesting resend of confirmation email
ElfIRL
MemberThanks for the reply. Just to make sure I am clear, when a user registers they get a confirmation email. I am just worried about users that do not. How would a user request the system send a new email? It is very possible that the ability is there, but I have overlooked it.
WP version – 3.3.1
BP version – 1.5.4This is a (fairly) new install and have only tried to resend the confirmation email since posting yesterday.
I’m ashamed to say that I have not tried those troubleshooting suggestions yet. I will give those a try in a few minutes and see what I can find.
At this point I am convinced that I have simply overlooked the ability to resend the confirmation email and that this isn’t something missing. Ill start turning things off and see if I am able to locate that.

ParticipantOverwrite styles from parent theme https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/tags/1.5.4/bp-themes/bp-default/_inc/css/default.css#L501 in your child theme
Firebug, a Firefox add-on, can help you inspect the element and change the style you need.

Member… and I’m on the BP Default 1.5.4 by the BuddyPress team theme. Still getting no response from the group creation. Same steps, same outcome and no error code or url info. Just nothing. It kicks me back to this address: http://llfh.myhelprep.com/groups/create/step/group-details/ of which you may not be able to see because I reactivated my plugins.
I did all you said about and nothing changed. Plugins got deactivated except buddypress. Basic default theme and I upgraded to 5.3 on the PHP and my wp 3.3.1 version.
HELP???

@ChrisClayton
Participant1. does the privacy plugin by Jeff work with BP 1.5.4? Has anyone ever tested or enhanced it?
It doesn’t work. (properly) Yes, afew people have ‘enhanced’ it. Have a look at @modemlooper‘s privacy plugin – https://buddypress.org/community/groups/buddypress-profile-privacy/2. Is there ever going to be a core privacy module ever for BP? If yes, then in which version can we expect this?
Yep. It’s already coded and is set to be released in 1.6 (next major update)Have a look at the Trac ticket that details it – https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/3695#comment:10
“I think when prioritizing the tasks for upcoming release, this should of the highest priority. Things like theme/css bugs and changes, minor bugs can be ignored. This one feature will make this software complete.”
I disagree. Features should NEVER come before bugs… i hate cockroaches all over my site
March 16, 2012 at 1:48 am #131453In reply to: [resolved] Remove/Disable Hidden Group Creation?
@mercime
ParticipantIf you have created a child theme of bp-default theme:
1. copy over create.php file https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/tags/1.5.4/bp-themes/bp-default/groups/create.php
2. open up create.php, and above line #99 add: ` `
and then after line #106 add: “
so that you, the Site/Super Admin can create hidden groups if you want toIn effect, the hidden group option would look like this now:
`
`3. upload the file to your child-theme-folder/groups/create.php

MemberI’d also like to point out that the way the logged in user id renders, it seems to have gone wonky AFTER upgrading to BuddyPress 1.5.4. When we were running in earlier versions, the user id displayed perfectly. There is also added text now for the search feature (to the left of the user id) in the form of “Search these:” prior to the combo box where you can search ‘members’, ‘groups’ and ‘posts’. Not a major nit, but it does eat a bit into the horizontal space afforded in that subheader section.

This seems to be the pertinent section. I added ‘test’ text in the template to narrow the focus, then added in the section immediately preceeding my findings to hopefully shed some light on the issue. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.note- the actual tag causing the issue seems to be ` `

KeymasterFirst thing you can do is track down in the template a link that generates this type of output. BP Corporate is a premium theme (I think), and I don’t have a copy to look at. When you’ve found in the theme where this markup is being generated, you can paste the relevant part of the theme here so we can see how it’s being done, which will tell us whether it’s being done correctly or not — always a good starting point
