    Hi @tdurocher-

    What screen are you using to change the bbPress “forum name”? (That’s unfamiliar to me.)

    BuddyPress uses the user’s profile to manage names, and doesn’t generally interact with the First and Last name fields; it allows the user to manage the Display Name field. For instance, via http://bptest.local/members/admin/profile/edit/group/1/

    Adding MemberPress to the mix complicates the issue somewhat, too.

    I am so sorry in advance and I really don’t know how I am having such a hard time finding this, but where can I customize my buddypress code. Here is how I installed everything. Got the domain from godaddy and installed wordpress right through them. Then on the wordpress dashboard, went to plugins and downloaded buddypress, bbpress and the theme Customify. Every time I am trying to go through a tutorial that involved customizing, I see things like “edit pb-custom.php” and things like that. Where are these files located, how do I literally access them? People say things like “its in /wp-content/plugins” but I dont know where to find that folder to begin with. Is it through the wordpress dashboard of my site? On godaddy somewhere? I know this is like 101 stuff but Im seriously confused where to find anything relating to code. I can find Customify’s Theme Editor very easily, not anything else though. Please help

    Hi,

    beforehand, I use the following versions:
    WP in 5.2
    BP in 4.4.0 with the new layout, BuddyPress Noeveau
    BBPress in 2.5.14
    Theme OceanWP in 1.7.1 with ChildTheme 1.0

    I offer a community for free and paid Mitgileder is: https://www.hoga-services.biz

    In the backend I can assign an individual sidebar per page.
    I have called a sidebar “BuddyPress and put down all the relevant widget there.

    My default sidebar is on the right and I want to display the BuddyPress sidebar instead of the default sidebar.

    Unfortunately, that does not work. Have already tried everything, even with the deactivation of all plugins, cache emptying, etc. nothing works.

    Does somebody has any idea?

    Thank you in advance.

    I’m using BBpress for forums and Buddypress for forum profile features and in future would like to use more BuddyPress features. My problem is that if a user changes their forum name, it is changes the first name account field to the forum name and clears out the last name account field. If I uncheck the Buddypress setting “Sync with profile fields” this does not occur but the forum name does not change at all. I don’t mind syncing forum name with “display name” but the first and last name fields can’t be wiped out. I know I must be doing something wrong but can’t find it. I’m also using Memberpress for registration.

    Didn’t see any way to “report a post” is that a feature of bbPress?

    I have a complex WordPress/BuddyPress site that now needs to be part of a multisite. I have come up with a migration plan, which includes moving most of the BuddyPress & profile tables manually. This site is the only pre-existing site to be moved to the new multi-site. It’s imperative that we don’t lose any of the site’s functionality or data. My question is to whether or not to network activate BuddyPress doc. Since documents will be connected to a group within a site I was inclined to activate BuddyPress docs on a site by site bases, BuddyPress & bbpress will be network activated. But I wasn’t sure if that was correct or should BuddyPress Docs be network activated? If so how would I ensure that docs from one subsite didn’t bleed into another? Thanks

    Hi all,

    Just wondering if I could get some advice on a multisite setup. I’ve done a lot of googling and read a bunch of previous posts but I’m still a bit uncertain on whether the setup I’m going for is possible.

    Basically, I’d like to have BuddyPress on the main domain, bbPress on a subdomain (child site) but have them integrate just as nicely as if they were both on the same domain. I.e. user roles, activity feeds etc. But I don’t want any of the important buddypress and bbpress menus to be in Network Admin dashboard, since I never give my clients network admin access.

    Is it possible to get this happening, and what would be the best way? From what I’ve read, if I network-activate BuddyPress some menus will go into the Network Admin dashboard?

    Cheers!

    I am looking for something, and I am wondering if it is feasible with BuddyPress.

    I would like a place where members of my WP site can go and enter specific information (like a log so to speak) but that only the original poster AND the admins could see. I would like this to be information that can be shared between the member and the admin and not seen by other members.

    Is this possible? I know I have seen that on other forums (not using bbpress or buddypress), so I am wondering. If it is possible, could someone tell me how? If not, just let me know and I’ll look elsewhere for that functionality.

    RE–Changing ‘Private Message’ to ‘Message’ throughout BuddyPress and bbPress

    Would like to remove the word ‘private’ from anywhere ‘private message’ automatically appears, so that these always just say ‘message’, not ‘private message’.

    The last answer here was 5+ years ago:

    Topic: Private Message Button Label Change · BuddyPress.org

    Is this still the last word? Any BuddyPress based themes, plugins, add-ons, or a way to do this simply? Considering using Front End PM to sidestep this issue.

    Thanks for suggestions or help.

    Hi,

    Every couple of weeks the buddypress forum stops working on http://www.Livelikeaviking.com. I have to “flush” the permalinks and everything is fine.

    I don’t know that it isn’t working until one of our subscribers complain – not a good situation.

    Please try to supply answers to the following questions.

    1. Which version of WordPress are you running?

    Wordpress 5.2.2

    2. Did you install WordPress as a directory or subdomain install?
    It is an add-on domain at SiteGround

    3. If a directory install, is it in root or in a subdirectory?

    4. Did you upgrade from a previous version of WordPress? If so, from which version?

    Yes – have upgraded since 4.8 however the issue was occurring then also.

    5. Was WordPress functioning properly before installing/upgrading BuddyPress (BP)? e.g. permalinks, creating a new post, commenting.

    Yes – everything works perfectly.

    6. Which version of BP are you running?

    2.5.14

    7. Did you upgraded from a previous version of BP? If so, from which version?

    8. Do you have any plugins other than BuddyPress installed and activated? If so, which ones?
    Yes – a lot of them

    9. Are you using a standard WordPress theme or customized theme?
    Using the Voce theme have a child theme

    10. Which theme do you use ?
    Voce theme – http://www.wpstudio.com

    It could be that bbPress has changed the way it finds clickable links in 2.6. Here’s some code that works for me to prevent bbPress from finding these links:

    add_filter(
    	'bbp_make_clickable',
    	function( $val ) {
    		remove_filter( 'bbp_make_clickable', 'bbp_make_mentions_clickable', 8 );
    		return $val;
    	},
    	0
    );

    Hi,
    BuddyPress.org is not shutting down. The next version of BuddyPress will be available on 15th.
    You can follow the development here
    https://github.com/buddypress/BuddyPress

    and for the upcoming REST API here
    https://github.com/buddypress/BP-REST

    BuddyBoss’s fork is mega bundle of BuddyPress and a few other plugins(bbpress, bp-profile search, and a few others) with minor enhancements. It does not seem their fork will survive on its own(been following their updates from the first release till now) if the BuddyPress development ceases. Consider it as a distribution that bundles some needed functionality together than a real fork(atleast until now).

    There have been many community plugin available in past(ultimate members, user ultra and I can recall 4-5 others) which have been doing well. There will be even more.

    The choice should be based on your needs. Using a commercially supported plugin provides better support which BuddyPress lacks currently. If support is important, BuddyPress may not be the best choice.

    Other than that, no membership plugin has a vast eco system than BuddyPress(It has 500+ addons on wordpress plugin repo).

    Hope it clarifies and helps you decide.

    Regards
    Brajesh

    Hello guys,

    Just in case anyone else was wondering. If you want to grab data from topics or replies you need to grab the hook that fires after it is saved. These 2 did the trick:

    //for when new topic was created
    add_action('bbp_new_topic_post_extras', 'group_has_new_topic', 10, 2);
    //for when new reply was created to a topic
    add_action('bbp_new_reply_post_extras', 'group_topic_has_new_reply', 10, 2);

    I know that this will grab all bbPress topics and replies, but it fits my purposes.
    If anyone knows how to grab only BuddyPress Group Forums’ Topics and Replies that would be awesome, but for now this will work for me and I hope it works for others!

    These actions rely on $topic_id and $reply_id only and respectfully, but you can grab any other data such as Topic Title, Forum Name, Topic or Reply Author, etc. through the Topic or Reply ID alone like so:

    $topic_id = bbp_get_reply_topic_id($reply_id);
        $topic_title = bbp_get_topic_title($topic_id);
        $forum_id = bbp_get_topic_forum_id($topic_id);
        $forum_title = bbp_get_forum_title($forum_id);
        $user = bbp_get_reply_author_id($reply_id);
        $user_info = get_userdata($user);
        $username = $user_info->user_login;

    Hello, I’m looking for a hook to grab data of new topics and replies as they are added.

    I was thinking this would do the trick, but it does not trigger my curl request.

    add_action('groups_forum_new_topic_after', 'group_was_posted_on', 10, 2);
    add_action('groups_forum_new_reply_after', 'group_was_posted_on', 10, 2);

    Then I tried this:

    //new topic was created
    add_action('bp_forums_new_topic', 'group_was_posted_on', 10, 2);
    //new post was created to a topic
    add_action('bp_forums_new_post', 'group_was_posted_on', 10, 2);

    Still no luck. What actions/hooks do I need to use for:
    User creates a new topic
    User creates a new reply to a topic

    Thanks for your help

    I’ve been trying to turn off mentions using:

    add_filter( 'bbp_find_mentions', '__return_false' );

    and

    add_filter( 'bp_activity_do_mentions', '__return_false' );

    but it’s not working. Has this changed in v2.6?

    Running bbPress v2.6-rc-7 and buddypress 4.3.0

    I want to turn it off as it’s not required by the site, but mainly that it breaks URLs that happen to contain a username as described here.

    Any ideas on how I can turn off @mentions?

    Hey,

    I have an issue with the integration between BuddyPress and bbPress.

    I want to allow my members to create private groups with Forums, the issue is that these private groups forums also show up on the Forum front page for members who are not in this group.

    Members of this private group should see the group forum in the ./forums/ page but not for members who are not in this group.

    Hey, BuddyPress uses bbpress for it’s forum software, you may be better asking there. You’ll also find a plugin directory specific to the forums that hopefully will have something that meets your requirements.

    Forums are handled by bbPress.
    There may be a need for coordinate between bbPress and BP re account deletion.

    I have a bbpress/buddypress website in French & German, translated with WPML.
    When a user registers himself on the German version, he gets German emails. When a user register himself on the French version, he gets French emails.

    When a German speaking user is asking for a friendship with a french user, the french user gets the mail notification in German, instead of French.

    Possible solution: I add a field in the registration form where the user can choose his language BUT how can i synchronize this with the mail notifications the user gets?

    Thanks a lot for your help!
