bbbpress is forum software, buddypress gives you more in depth user profiles groups and activity streams (amongst other social netowrky type things) the two can be used separately or together.

@irondan Do you mean you want one user (or all users) to be notified of any/all topics which would be created in your forums? I have not seen any plugins created for that functionality. You would be better served, I believe, by posting this feature request at the bbPress forums https://bbpress.org/forums/ with more information

    Thanks Hugo.

I have just found that out. Which is that Buddypress uses BBpress. I have also been given a youtube link to a guy who has explained it well, so if anyone else asks the same/similar question here is that link

    Cheers,

    Jayce

Buddypress uses bbPress to provide it’s forums for groups and is not a forum app it’s self, it does not, or at least as of V 1.7 have internal forums which used to be a stripped down version of bbPress.

Guys, we are proud to announce that the new Rating-Widget plugin release supports BuddyPress & bbPress ratings. And the Premium version even support aggregated user ratings which is calculated based on all user’s activities.

    Nevermind, I figured it out!

I created a buddypress.php file AND a bbpress.php file and uploaded them to my theme directory.

I created these files as copies from my page-template-full-width.php file.

Thank you so much for the help!

I am looking for a solution for bbPress 2.4 + Buddypress 1.81 to display Buddypress @username instead of the full name in the forums – just like these forums!
I know this is an old thread and the plugin posted by @ekawaii is no longer in existence.

Erlend, i would suggest you to wait commercial release for group customization. I am preparing those content blocks to work in user profiles & buddypress groups.

For people interesting, this is an example of content block usage in bbpress replies: http://theme.firmasite.com/support/topic/firmasite-as-a-childtheme/#content_block5
Think about using this in user profiles & buddypress groups !!

Having same issue. Moreover I’m running multisite in which all 5 sites have all the same plugins activated + all use the same theme. Yet, on some sites cropping works and on half of them not. All sites have exactly same setup, same settings, same extensions and same functions. Nothing modified. Along with the crop function, the buddypress register function also fails on those site where cropping fails.

    Theme issue? Don’t think so.
    Other plugin issues, nope.

PS, on the sites that DO have a functioning cropping, when first time clicked on any area within the cropping module, the page jumps and users have to scroll up again.

WP 3.6.1 mlti network, latest buddypress, bbpress latest, cubepoints, set permalinks on %post-name%. Activated and deactivated rtMedia (which sucks for me since it conflicts with build-in media upload) but also gives same results.

I can’t replicate your issue. I am using WP 3.6, BP 1.8.1, bbPress 2.4, and a child theme of bp-default and it works for me. You may want to give more detail about your installation so the volunteers can try to isolate what may be causing this to fail on your install.

As of BP 1.7+ bbpress is a seperate install. Try following the below instructions.
1.) Go to dashboard/settings/buddypress/components and check the box “User Groups”
    2.) Install and activate bbpress.
3.) In the front-end go to the groups page and click the button “Create a Group”
4.) Give the group a name and description, click “Create Group and Continue
5.) Select your privacy options then click “Next Step”
6.) Under Group Forum click the box “Yes. I want this group to have a forum.” Click “Next Step.”
7.) Choose avatar for the group, click “Upload” then crop the image. Click “Next Step”
8.) Select friends to invite. If you dont have any yet just click “Finish.”
This should do it. Now you have groups with their own forum. Click the Groups nav button then click the group you created. Below the avatar you will see the tabs Home | Forum | Etc.
    Hope this helps! Good luck!

    @jboye @petervandoorn

There was a bug in a previous version of bbPress where the visibility of the private and hidden forums were not being saved properly.

The bug is fixed in bbPress 2.4, but for previous group forums, you’ll need to repair them.

    You can do this by:

    • Logging in to the WP admin dashboard
    • Navigate to “Tools > Forums”
    • Make sure to check “Recalculate private and hidden forums”
    • Lastly, hit “Repair Forums”

This will regenerate bbPress’ internal private and hidden forum IDs that are used to filter posts and will therefore fix forum visibility problems.

It’s unfair to say that we (the developers) are denying it. If we can recreate an issue, then it’s something we can fix. If we can’t recreate the issue but you can, it means we’re not testing in exactly the same way that you are, or that there’s something specific to your WordPress installation that’s affecting BuddyPress in some way. Clear, step-by-step instructions on how to recreate the bug help us track it down.

If you can update here or on that bbPress trac ticket, @petervandoorn, with those precise step-by-step instructions and as much detail as possible about your WordPress configuration, we can figure out a solution together.

    Thanks.

    #171093

In theory if you set your group to “Private” or “Hidden” then non-group members are not supposed to be able to see the posts in that group’s bbForum.

However, and this is denied by the developers, I am experiencing a bug which is making all forum posts appear in the site-wide activity stream to all members, although when they click on the link they cannot view the post.

    cf: https://buddypress.org/support/topic/private-group-posts-appearing-in-activity-stream-to-non-members

So, no, you’re not going crazy 😉 and yes, it is incredibly frustrating!

I’m working with Gabor and have a complementary question.

In Using bbPress 2.2+ with BuddyPress I read in the “Migrate BP Discussion Forums to bbPress” section that bbPress has a bunch of cool features that BP Discussion Forums doesn’t. Isn’t one of those features that a BP group using bbPress can have multiple forums?

    #170798

Because the forums inside buddypress only work for buddypress groups. If you want a global forum, you will have to install bbPress as well.
