ParticipantI agree with @modemlooper, there’s no need for a plugin if it will be implemented in core(hope it will run quicker), group’s fields is very important feature and I think that for many users who use groups as company & venue’s descriptions like me also much more important than profile fields. If not I hope @slaffik will finish his great work on it globally.

Participant@greenmeanie WordPress works with any theme if you use the Template Pack.
And Mingle is dreadfully incomparable to BP.

nicholmikey
ParticipantWell I have spent many hours testing the move from 1.0rc1 to 1.2.9 with a smaller sample of user data and it worked out fine. Some hiccups here and there but I worked it all out. This is probably more common than you think, as I understand there was a popular WordPress MU + BuddyPress1.0rc1 package back in the day.
I spend months reworking the root theme from something compatible with 1.0rc1 to 1.2.9, and now 1.5 is announced!! I sure hope a theme that works with 1.2.9 moves easily into 1.5, I made no core changes and uses the appropriate hooks, so heres hoping.

ParticipantBuddypress hates themes and gives me the most problems with the plugin.
I like Mingle but they need to start working on it again and add more options and let you turn off features you don’t want.August 5, 2011 at 2:02 am #117741princealfredo

ParticipantI forced it to 644 and it worked. New issue
Of course!August 5, 2011 at 12:46 am #117733enderandrew
MemberI’m not sure what plugin you used, or how it cost you $20.
The problem with code edits is that they’ll be overwritten when you update.
I use Theme My Login. It doesn’t cost a penny, and also makes your login/register pages look like your site instead of the generic WordPress login page. And you can control activation, etc.
There is also a premium plugin (you can sign-up for Buddydev.com for $30 and get access to lots of great Buddypress plugins and themes)

KeymasterVery, very strange. 644 is the standard. Never seen this. Let me know if you figure it out – I doubt it’s BP’s fault (we don’t do any chmodding!!) but nothing’s impossible.

`Whole install is that way. Wow. I’ve uploaded plugins a million times and never run into that.

Keymaster(The more I think about it, the more I think that something funky must be happening with your server, especially if an installation that *was* working is now *not* working.)

KeymasterThis is a really peculiar error. I’ve never seen require() fail because of a permissions error before.
When you check the detailed directory listing for buddypress/bp-core, do you see anything unusual?

ParticipantAlso check out BP Media (aka BP Album). It is super advanced, and has all that stuff.
@pryse Multi-user blogs aren’t activated unless you active them. Either way, BP is still an awesome social networking script capable of much more then merely “social networking”.

Participantwell, I think I will really back to my phobia of plugins! this plugin just ripped me of 20 $ of google adwords advertising my website, and it caused any user who tried to sign up with creating blog in registration to tell them please check your activation e-mail! (theopposite of what it should do!) and this time it’s not sending e-mails at all even after long time because the plugin did it’s job at this side only!
“”” preferably not a plugin, Is there some code edits can achieve this? “””
you can see I said that for a reason…so back to where I was…
anybody know how to change this without a plugin? it should be a basic feature like in phpbb or coppermine to choose weather to activate your users by mail or immediately let them log in…
last hope, perhaps @boonebgorges , @johnjamesjacoby can help about that?August 4, 2011 at 11:16 pm #117726In reply to: Hey you! BuddyPress 1.5-beta-2 is here
Boone Gorges
Keymaster@intermike Just overwrite the files in the plugins/buddypress folder with the new ones! Though it’s far easier if your dev environment is on an svn checkout.

Participant@boonebgorges Can I just overwrite my current BP 1.5 BETA 1 with this one? Or do a fresh install?
