In reply to: Forum Reply Disconnected

Participant@3sixty: Yes… it already exists… but it’s confusing, unintuitive and inconsistent. Users don’t understand the difference between updates and forum postings in the activity stream. They don’t understand the difference between replying in the activity stream and replying in the thread. Any why should they? Reply means reply. Period. The way it works now is just plain broken. You end up with people replying to thread in the stream then wondering what the heck happened when they visit the thread later and don’t see their contribution. So the only alternative is to turn off activity stream replies for forum postings. But that’s even worse. Now you have bits of conversation in the stream that you CAN reply to (updates) and bits of conversation in the stream that you CANNOT reply to. Well you can… but you have to know enough to click “view” to take you to some other place and reply there. Very inconsistent. Too much friction. And not at all intuitive. I think that in the case of forum postings, replies made within the activity stream go to the THREAD… NOT to a permalink comment page. Think like a user. Like a human. Not like a programmer.
If there a ticket for this serious usability issue? There should be.

ParticipantI too was a big supporter of those plugins. Thankfully, I was able to convince someone to revive at least one of them. This might work for at least the photo part of your problem.
http://buddydev.com/buddypress/bp-flickr-plugin-allow-your-users-to-show-their-latest-flickr-images-on-their-buddypress-profile/I’ve been looking at how to help get a headstart on a similar YouTube plugin also.
Hope this helps.

Participantthe bp-dev did not work with the current buddypress release…
the only working thing i have found is the theme blogsmu from http://premium.wpmudev.org/project/buddypress-blogsmu-theme
maybe i will try the membership and build my custom theme with the functions of the blogsmu theme because thats no plugins… its hardcoded in the theme!!!May 31, 2010 at 8:51 am #80177In reply to: Users Can’t Add Additional Blogs

ParticipantI am also having this problem – I guess everybody is. I also followed the tips you mentioned and initially, it reduced splogger registrations a lot.
However, I disagree with Terry: there are not real people setting up blogs and answering captchas, these are bots. As kiwipearls mentioned, if you go and try to sign up manually, you have to fill in the required fields.
There is a leak somewhere in BuddyPress/WPMU registration and all methods to stop the oil have failed until now. BP (haha) people say it’s WPMU and the other way around, I guess. The leak has been here for months and nobody seems to want to fix it. Maybe it’s some kind of corruption since the premium site Terry mentioned has a way to fix it.

@mercime
ParticipantYou would just have to copy and customize styling from
https://trac.buddypress.org/browser/tags/1.2.4.1/bp-themes/bp-default/_inc/css/default.css and add the following in your theme’s style.css
– from line 52 to 55, the from line 227 to line 238May 31, 2010 at 4:21 am #80167In reply to: Buddypress version of wordpress 'mystique' theme?

MemberThanks to both @paulhastings0 and @mercime,
I’ve tried the “wp-signup.php,wp-login.php?action=register,/register” before and that doesnt fix my problem. Mercime I just tried what you have suggested as well and it still doesn’t work. It’s becoming a major frustration! lol. If you’d like to test it out yourself let me know and I can send an invite to you. I really appreciate the help you’ve been giving me. Unfortunately this is an extremely important plugin to my overall concept and its a must fix. so thanks again. I have buddypress and MU installed in my main directory.

ParticipantActually BP Nicey child theme has already been upgraded for BP 1.2.4.1 . But as @tomah mentioned above, that screenshot was made when it was a child theme of bp-sn-parent.

Memberline 606 in lib/core.php I see the use of get_the_author() now I do not know for sure but I think there is a bp function for this wp function may want to do a search and replace if there is indeed a different function to use.

MemberI will look into this as well, but just incase you know where to set it at. All profile links link to wp-admin/profile.php when they should probably link to the bp profile for each user.

Participant@anaxent it’s working fine on my test install http://mystique.bp-theme-converts.com/activity/ I did make a few changes before making the zip so I could have left out a closing div maybe?

MemberI have tried to use the theme with in the current zip above and all is well except for the activity stream. seems a container is not properly closed as the footer is cramed to the right and stops 1/2 way through the stream the rest of the stream over laps into the background

Participant@andrea_r http://mystique.bp-theme-converts.com/downloads/buddypressmystique.zip
It’s not perfect, main problem being the Mystique JS conflicts with the BuddyPress JS so I have disabled Mystique JS on BuddyPress pages.
The problem with this is the Mystique tabbed widget no longer works on BuddyPress pages, so I set to display none on those pages.
If you know of a way to disable the widget on those pages, please let me know.May 30, 2010 at 7:32 pm #80143abcde666

ParticipantAny updates on this? What does BP 1.3 bring to the table that would change things regarding the permalinks? Using WP Pages sounds really screwy, especially seen as BP currently doesn’t rely on this so I can’t see why it suddenly would.

MemberThis is the main or even only reason I chose to to use wordpress mu. I really need an invite only registration and this plugin is perfect. Please if someone could help me set this up I’d be extremely appreciative.
I’m sure @lpapworth would appreciate all the help as well.
Thanks,

MemberOK, fixed the problem in the screenshot I posted by duplicating the langs files as described in comment #23 here:
http://teleogistic.net/2009/12/tinymce-in-buddypress/
But I still have an issue…I’m also using the Forums Extras plugin with signatures enabled on the BP default theme. With BP-TinyMCE deactivated, forum signatures display really nicely separated from the post by a nice horizontal rule, and in a slightly smaller font than the post text itself. With BP-TinyMCE activated, the horizontal rule is gone, and it looks from the source code as if the last
tag used in the post content is not closed, so the signature is just inserted immediately after the last character entered there.
