More info needed, like WP/BP versions? Have you deactivated all plugins (which includes all BP and WP plugins, MU plugins and bp-custom.php) except BuddyPress and change theme to bp-default, cleared cache and checked if cropping works?

Didn’t work, my bp files didn’t have `

`. I’m using the askit theme from elegant themes, so I’m going to see if anyone over at that forum has been able to get buddypress to work.

@modemlooper it looks that way, just a pity as Jeff says he has put in over a years work & has tested on current versions of BP.
It looked like an extremely promising plugin, can’t understand why he won’t let anyone see the code unless it never existed.
He has held up the development of a working privacy component for over a year now.

Hello, I have a quick support question….

Just to clear things up, my avatar upload works 100% fine. Buddypress media is working fine.

But on the bp-crop page, my custom header image, and my custom background image won’t load. The images are not there, and my background is white.

How can I fix this?

I’ve read about the fixes for this issue and I realized that my theme has a container div in the header that created a fixed width section. The buddypress container is assuming that fixed width, I assume because both of them have the div id “container”. I also assume since both of them have the same div id that if I change the container size with css that my header will be altered as well, which I don’t want.

So, my question is, is there a way to change the div id of the buddypress container so that I can set the width with css? Or will changing the div id effect the template files (being that the template files and my page.php files have to match).

I hope I’m making sense here. Any input will be appreciated.

@satomom – No membership software. Just some basic PayPal subscription buttons and theme/function customizations based on whether a user is logged in or not. This method requires more oversight and maintenance (ex. if someone cancels their subscription), but it keeps everything simple for upgrades.

So mod_rewrite wasn’t loaded then? I hope I helped in asking for confirmation that it was or wasn’t it helps to check what phpinfo reports.

I would change that Debian distro for redhat centos or fedora they have much nicer default configs all geared up for getting of to a fairly quick start as a web server.

Hello,

I’m very impressed by the work of WordPress and BuddyPress. Its my first days working with it and it really looks nice.

I’m runnig WordPress+Buddypress with MULTI SITE. My goal is to make the front page to be a statistic page only – no blogg.

I want visitors to easily find the latest blog posts (of other blogs in my community), aswell as most readed blogs etc.
(something like: http://www.Blogg.no – even I know they dont use WordPress, i want such a statistic on the front page).

I’m unsure if its a plugin or anything out there already to let me do this. I’ve tryed to search the board aswell as with google.

Any respons will be highly appriciated.

If you use a non BuddyPress theme then you need to do a little more work search for BuddyPress template pack plugin. Install and follow directions. This will move some extra theme files into your WordPress theme and include the necessary functions and JavaScript to run BuddyPress

Hi, I’m trying to use buddypress as a plugin on a wordpress site using the ReviewIt Theme. When I activate buddypress I get the menu (login//signup/visit etc) as messy text links in the footer of my page rather than as a neat menu bar at the top of the screen

any suggestions? I’m probably missing something obvious

It’s working! ok here is what you do if anyone else needs help. Follow the instructions here

make sure to edit the default in the /etc/apache2/default (I think I did default-ssl also) the instructions are wrong and point to /000-default
restart apache2 using “sudo service apache2 restart” not the outdated one in the instructions

Run phpinfo() what modules does it list under ‘loaded modules’ your looking for mod_rewrite to be in the list.

After that checks out you want to check your chown settings for directories, it tends not to matter what file permissions you set if the group and owner of the file and directory is wrong. Those file permissions simply set a series of permissions for Group, Owner, and Other but doesn’t set which group / owner.

I’m webmaster for Working Writers of Wisconsin (http://www.workingwriters.org/), a small non-profit group of freelance writers. Right now, we have 18 specialty pages on our WordPress-based site (right-hand column) that are currently hand-coded HTML. I’d like to make them dynamically generated so I don’t have to hand edit them all. I’ve done some research and it seems like BuddyPress would be the most useful tool for me to allow our members to edit their own information and for me to craft specialty pages that are dynamically generated from the member profile information.

However, I have some basic questions that I haven’t been able to get answers to yet but that a BuddyPress developer might be able to help me with.

I’ve tinkered with BuddyPress on my sandbox site, creating profile fields (including all checkboxes in the categories section of our membership form (http://www.workingwriters.org/join-us/ [Note that the membership application form is currently a disaster but I’m holding off fixing or replacing it until I get these BuddyPress questions answered. It used to work fine before I converted the site to WordPress]) . Each member should be able to revise his/her profile information. However, I have some concerns:

1. Given that this site is for members to allow themselves to be contacted, much of the information added to their profile should be visible to site visitors. However, for safety concerns, members do not want their home address visible (yellow on http://www.workingwriters.org/BuddyPressProfileFieldSetup.png).

2. Other information gathered on the membership application does not need to be visible to visitors but needs to be visible to members and saved to the database. (green on http://www.workingwriters.org/BuddyPressProfileFieldSetup.png).

3. I’d like to make sure there’s coordination of data entered (blue on http://www.workingwriters.org/BuddyPressProfileFieldSetup.png and http://www.workingwriters.org/WordPressAddNewUser.png) so that the membership application form creates both the WordPress user and BuddyPress profile without requiring duplicate entry of information. It seems like in order to register a user must enter the same data in two different places and I’d rather avoid that. Note: I’d like to have them add their password on the registration form.

4. Can there be a separate registration for members versus those just registering to comment?

5. What are the things about BuddyPress-enabled themes that are different from other themes? I created a custom theme with Artisteer and have been quite happy with it but Artisteer does not at the moment support BuddyPress. I read at some point that BuddyPress will work to a certain extent with themes that are not BuddyPress-enabled but wonder what I’d be losing with that approach. I’m hoping Artisteer will release a new version soon that supports BuddyPress because the workarounds I’ve seen require significant modifications of PHP files and I’d rather avoid that if at all possible.

I have found many different pages on setting up the .htaccess and mod_rewrite.so, however none of them seemed to work. As far as the perms go I gave everything 777 in the blog directory to eliminate the ftp as the source of the problem. It still hasn’t worked.
Here is what I have been doing. 1) follow instructions to setup .htaccess and mod_rewrite. 2) setup perms 3) if still not working give 777 to everything. 4) if still not working restore image and start over. 5) do this until you run out of instructions 6) ask for help.

If anyone has any instruction to setup .htaccess and mod_rewrite and vsftpd I will try them. I have tried all that I can find on the web so far.

Hi I want to change the text That appear on pages for members/admin/blogs/ in buddypress.
Generally on these pages a list of blogs are shown and there is a button on right side in which a “Visit Blog” is written.
I Want to change the html of this link , means the text appear in this link to something “Visit Post” or “Watch this News”.

How can we achieve this? I have searched lots of the file in buddypress and even wordpress. But didn’t get any solution. Is there anybody who can help me to find the file where the html settings for this is available or any other way to achieve this?

can you see the default /about/ page that was created?

If not, mod_rewrite is not reading the htaccess file.

Hello, it seems that when a new user signs up to my buddypress site there avatar is uploaded to wp-content/uploads/avatars/signups/(a folder with a 30ish character name, looks like a random string).
When I display the users profile bp isn’t pulling that avatar using “
but if the user signs in and follows the “change avatar” procedure the new avatar is uploaded to wp-content/uploads/avatars/(a folder with a 2 digit number) these avatars display correctly, also if I as site admin go in and update other users avatars they display correctly
