Try using ads plugins that provides widgets and install bpdev-widgets ( it’s included in bpdev plugins ) and put the widget in the users & groups page

(I know it will not help you, but it could be useful to know :D)

Yeah, openX is by far the best the best option – If you’re smart enough when setting it all up, you’ll be able to produce some fantastic results and generate invaluable learnings on user habits which you can then use in turn to make more cash.

If you run a number of sites, it really comes into it’s own – You’ll essentially have your own ad network with the ability to gather learnings from each of your sites – find out which ads generate the best CTR’s and as a result give you more money. It’s even better if you can get pixels placed on the confirmation pages for whoever you’re advertising as then you’ll be able to work back to an average eCPM.

Oh, and you can even track adsense clicks with it too. Highly recommended.

I like this idea very much…

I had the same question two months ago with an answer – sadly I didn’t quite get it. Maybe you do, and can explain it to me… :-)

    See this thread: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=731

    Thanks, Michael

I highly recommend openx, depending on the volume of your site, this will allow you to do amazing things. It is your own ad server, so you can control impressions, clicks, etc.

    > Will it use a wikifarm installation where the main installation is in /wiki/ and when a new wiki is created it will create an independent wiki in /wiki/examplewiki/ using the wiki-engine in /wiki/ or will it simply create a new group in the main wiki /wiki/?

It will be for example (Link will not work) http://mybuddypress.de/wikis/examplewiki

The engine will be the same for all the wikis. You can even those the skin for your wiki. But one cool feature is, that you can inherid material from the main wiki. The idee is: We have lots of course-material in one wiki. But you want to rearrange it useing the existing stuff in a subwiki. It is even possible to have something like. http://mybuddypress.de/wiki/examplewiki/wiki-for-our-next-meeting.

But we don’t have a user interface for that at the moment.

    > Will it use the user authorisation from the wpmu/bp-database or the built in system?

The authorisation will be from the wpmu/bp-database. If you are a user of Buddypress, you can create new wikis, invite friends etc. It is based on the group plugin and will work in a simular way.

    > Will you need someone to test it? (I’m no programmer but i would love to help in anyway i can.)

If you send me an E-Mail i can give you the access-data. If you wan’t to help, documentation und support will be importend. In a few weeks, i would love to see a video on wordpress.tv showing the stuff.

    > Will it be available for download?

Yes. If it works correct and documentations is done, you can download it. Everything should be GPL.

@timschmi: That sounds really nice! I just have some questions and I would appreciate if you could answer them, if you have the time.

Will it use a wikifarm installation where the main installation is in /wiki/ and when a new wiki is created it will create an independent wiki in /wiki/examplewiki/ using the wiki-engine in /wiki/ or will it simply create a new group in the main wiki /wiki/?

Will it use the user authorisation from the wpmu/bp-database or the built in system?

Will you need someone to test it? (I’m no programmer but i would love to help in anyway i can.)

Will it be available for download?

Yes. You login with your FB/Google/OpenID,Yahoo/AOL/MySpace account details.

You get a BuddyPress user account on the main/first blog of the site and can create a new blog which you are admin of. To log into that blog, you log into the main site and then navigate via the admin bar to your own blog dashboard.

To make it 100% compatible, it needs better integration with the BP Home template and ideally, being MU site-wide rather than installed in /plugins/ so that users can log directly into their own blogs rather than into the main blog and then navigate to their own blog dashboard.

For a drop in solution, I’m very impressed with it. And you get stats through using the RPX API key.

If you look in the groups-templatetags.php file under function bp_groups_header_tabs() you can see them defined there. The actions (where the links are going) are headed to the template index & loop files in member templates. The code that sorts out what the loop gets (has_groups(), the_group() etc) is at the top of the templatetags.php file under BP_Groups_Template.

There was an error in my email address on the first post: it is “automattic” with two “t”s at the end not three.

There is a add sidebars plugin at http://bp-dev.org/plugins

Install that and use text widgets on those sidebars to show ads.

Hi Andy, I would like to write a post about how I’m using BuddyPress.

    http://twitterfic.com

The site is for Twitter role players. There are currently thousands of roleplayers on Twitter who pretend to be a fictional character. I am using BuddyPress to aggregate all these people.

Nice job oldskoo1. Slick and it’s a great idea. I know that kinda thing would have been very appreciated when I was younger with kids. Being a parent is just plain terrifying the first time. “What are we doing wrong?”, “Why is he still crying!”, worried to let him out in the front yard. Ya know, normal stuff that isn’t normal because you’ve never done it before.

    Normal changes.

With the 2nd kid it wasn’t terrifying to let him play in the front yard near the street as much. We just learned to listen for the sound of screeching tires. Anything else wasn’t worth bothering with. :)

Don’t forget to post your site here: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=185

https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=1314 start there. Look at the code for bp-core-adminbar.php

Create a function that is your new top level item and submenus. Use add_action() to hook up the new function/menu item.

And here is a thread suggesting there should be a way to report inappropriate content, which could be good functionality to combine in one plugin along with Favorites functionality, as they are both forms of the same thing, tagging items: “Report This” feature

Here, just for reference, is a more active discussion on the same idea: “My Favorites” Plugin, but I think egerrits’ description, in the first post of this thread, nails it more clearly.

You could try upgrading your site to MU but, personally, I would simply wait for the WP version of BuddyPress to arrive.

My guesstimate is that Andy will aim to coincide with the release of WP 2.8, currently scheduled for the beginning of April put will probably get pushed back to the middle of the month. He has said that the non-MU version of BP is almost ready to roll but I guess he wants to see how the release of the MU version goes first and, obviously, he isn’t going to release for 2.7 with 2.8 so close.

    Its an online art installation.

    1) Think of a question, and type it in.

    2) Pick up to three wooden boxes from the gallery floor.

    3) The photo of the ordinary object inside represents the answer to your question.

    4) Save your sandbox results and share them.

And soon the Results will go to my Buddypress profiles, not the old Vanilla ones.

(Buddypress is what inspired me to return to WordPress, after deserting to Vanilla.)

I’m even learning to code a little!

    Thanks BP,

    Amber
