I want to extend Buddypress groups to include images. I have added a small PHP form that allows group admin to upload bunch of images and now I would like to display those images. The URL format should be <bp_site>/groups/<group_name>/images/
In addition the images page will display all the images for that group, clicking on an image will load up lightbox-2 (or any modal) and display corresponding full sized images.
Here’s where I am stuck…. BP has slug that looks like http://<bp_site>/groups/<group_name>/wire How do I add a custom slug to use something like http://<bp_site>/groups/<group_name>/images
http://buddypress.org/blog/how-to/customizable-slugs-in-buddypress/ talks about how slugs interact and how to modify them, but I don’t have any slug definition in my wp-config.php file. Should I be looking elsewhere?
Once this works, I will be committing my changes back out here for everyone else to use.
The chat system kicks ass.. Super impressed so far.. Keep up the great work!
This stuff works just fine people. Do you have that plugin in my-plugins as well as bb-plugins? It’s trying to run twice for some reason.
You can get rid of the error by calling that like: bp_core_widget_whos_online(array()); but it doesn’t pay any attention to args being passed when it comes to number of user to display. You’ll have to fire up the widget for each blog, set the max users, deactivate the widget to not display it. This widget was not designed to be used in this way.
You’d be better off creating a mini template for this purpose.
https://codex.buddypress.org/developer-docs/custom-buddypress-loops/the-site-members-loop/ with ‘type=online’.
hi,
I would like to display the “Who is online” widget, but without using the widget
I tried:
<?php bp_core_widget_whos_online(); ?>
but then I get an error:
Warning: Missing argument 1 for bp_core_widget_whos_online(), ….
Warning: extract() [function.extract]: First argument should be an array in /var/www/mydomain.com/cms/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-core/bp-core-widgets.php on line 166
I’m not sure what arguments it needs, I tried:
<?php bp_core_widget_whos_online(‘3’); ?>
3 = max. number to show. but then I still get the error. how do I use it right?
@Gpo1: Chrome? You ought to see it in IE 6 – Yuk. I’ll get around to testing in Chrome. First I am fixing functionality problems. CSS comes after that – for now anyway. Which shouldn’t be much a problem since something like 0.0001 percent of the world uses Chrome at the moment and about 60 percent use IE 6.
So is there going to be a version that works with the current build of BP?
Is there any way to get it to work in the meantime?
@ M , Please test it in Chrome…
This thread has a bunch of code snippets you can use:

My users have really taken to the WP-Admin-Bar plugin, which provides common links in the top bar above the blog and admin pages. This is replaced by the BuddyPress bar, and people are really missing some handy links from the old admin bar.
Is there a way I can add some of the links from the WP-Admin-Bar to the BuddyPress bar, ideally without needing to edit the file each time BuddyPress is updated?
@Enlightenmental1 – I consider it good alpha code right now. We’ll probably go straight from there to release.
Fields show up in the order they were created. By September… I would say 50% right now? There’s a few different things on the roadmap for what comes next, and you can always vote on what you think you’d like to see also.
The first blog visible on the buddypress.org homepage will link you to where you can vote for what you’d like to see come sooner or later. The votes will determine the path, so make sure to get involved.
@ M
cool.
beta testing on someone else’s site is not quite the same…. we have a very customized install.
if you package and release your current beta for download, I will test it on my server and report back what I find.
thanks either way
Not really off the ground yet, but definitely up and running. http://my.axelis.com
I have the Welcome Package plugin installed. I tried removing all plugins and that didn’t work though.
I don’t want to use Gravatar, that’s just the properties of the thumbnails, no matter what I upload it defaults to a gravatar image. I want the users to be able to upload directly in BuddyPress.
There is one error: (I think I am looking in the right spot for errors. (analysis and log files, Errors):
[Wed May 27 11:52:40 2009] [error] [client 66.249.71.151] File does not exist: /home/thehsm/public_html/wp-content/plugins/membership-site-memberwing/function.require-once

Is it possible to share the LogIn/SignOn between 2 installations of WPMU/Buddypress?
In my case it wouldn’t be a problem if the websites (language1/language2) run each on a seperate installation of WPMU/Buddypress, because i want a strict seperation of the content regarding to its language (webiste1 = language1 = only content written in language1 / website2 = language 2 = only content written in language2).
The only concern that holds me back from this type of multi language setup is the that i want my user to be able to switch between the language1-website and language2-website with only one Login. So if the user is logged in on language1.website.com he should be able to switch to language2.website.com without any additional login (similar to the WPMU/MediaWiKi plugin > https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=2912).
@Enlightenmental1 – the beta is up on the test site for open use.
@ M
what’s the scheduled release for this?
if you offer up a beta version, lots of us would help test it to completion
thanks
Interesting!
Please submit a new bug ticket in trac.
@Macarti
Same problem here wp-themes/bpmember
If that is the case, then you have an incorrect directory name. The bpmember theme should be in /wp-contents/bp-themes/, not /wp-themes/.
Also, make sure that you do not have any old BuddyPress themes or old BP theme directories in /wp-content/.
@Ceeeeg
A few questions:
- Do you have any non-BuddyPress plugins installed?
- Do you have ANY errors in your server’s log files?
- Which version of the GD library are you using?
- Which version of PHP?
The avatar for mine it stays the same avatar no matter what I upload. It comes from Gravatar.
What do you have set in WPMU’s backend under “Settings > Discussion > Avatars >Default Avatar”?
Since you are using Gravatars, the avatar should change when you upload an new image to your gravatar.com account.
when I change the theme to the church theme that I am using on wpmu it does not work!
BuddyPress themes are special cases of WordPress themes. They have additional functions and some unique code that make them work in BP. So, you cannot take any WP theme and substitute it for a BuddyPress theme.
If you wish to use something other than one of the Standard BP themes, then you need to pick an already available custom BP theme, customize a WP theme to make it work in BP, or design your own BP custom theme from scratch. You can search the BP forums for advice on customizing themes to work in BP.
This is not a problem at all. BuddyPress is defined to work like that.
You are misunderstanding of differences between wpmu and buddypress.
