“markItUp! is a JavaScript plugin built on the jQuery library. It allows you to turn any textarea into a markup editor. Html, Textile, Wiki Syntax, Markdown, BBcode or even your own Markup system can be easily implemented.”
When you activate this plugin; buddypress uses markItUp for its textareas, with the html default set (I don’t know which specific tags are allowed in buddypress/bbpress); making it easy for you users to stylize what they wrote.

Topic: Changing Language
How exactly do I change language in my Buddypress-community (frontend).
Ive downloaded the PO and MO files but cant find any instructions/tutorial anywhere how I use them.
Okay, I have a few issues with Facebook Connect that I’m hoping somebody will have the answer to.
Question #1:
Can I place the Facebook Connect login button on a subdomain page without having that user become a subscriber to that subdomain? ie. I’d like to have a button in subdomain.example.com log the facebook user in to example.com, instead of subdomain.example.com.
I ask this because I have all my BuddyPress widgets running in a subdomain, and I like letting my users sign in via that page, however when I add the Facebook Connect button to it, it adds them as a member to that domain, which causes a whole lot of obvious issues.
When the FB connect button is only shown on the homepage it works ok…but it presents a completely different issue with the subdomain widgets which I’ll explain in question #2.
Question #2:
As I said earlier, I’m displaying the BuddyPress members widget on both the homepage (ie. http://example.com ) and also a subdomain ( http://interact.example.com ). When a user signs up through facebook connect from the homepage, the avatar for that facebook shows up perfectly in the home theme and member page, HOWEVER, if you travel to any other subdomain that is NOT the home theme, the facebook avatar goes to the default monster/wavicon/grayman/gravatar image.
It seems as though the Facebook Connect Avatar does not function well with virtual domains. You can test this on your own BuddyPress installation by just adding the members widget to any subdomain and you’ll see what I mean.
Another way to show this is by going to any member’s page who is using FB Connect on testbp.org, and adding a subdomain to it (of course the subdomain you add must actually exist).
You’ll see that the users facebook image suddenly becomes the default avatar.
For example:
This page shows the correct Facebook Avatar:
http://testbp.org/members/facebookuser18/
In a virtual subdomain however, it doesn’t work:
http://test.testbp.org/members/facebookuser18/
While this example is not really the same issue I’m having (remember, my issue deals with displaying the Facebook avatar on the members WIDGET in a subdomain), it is a good example to show that the Facebook Connect avatar will ONLY work in the directory where the plugin is installed.
Is there any way to make the Facebook avatar work across ALL subdomains?
Sorry for the long-winded post, I’ve just been trying to figure these two issues out for the past day and haven’t gotten anywhere. Does anybody have any ideas on either of these questions?
Thanks so much!
Hello All,
This should be fairly simple, but I cannot figure it out (or want to make sure I am doing it correctly) …
I have three main icons I added to the buddypress-home theme: Your Profile, Create a blog, Create a Group.
I would like to add links to those icons so that they take the user to the correct spot. I am unsure how to do this.
Can someone please let me know what code I would need to add to the link so that it will take the user either to their profile page, create a new blog page, or the create a group page?
I am going to feel really dumb when someone answers this because it is probably much simpler than what I was thinking. This is my first attempt at using BP and WPMU together and I am a little unsure of some things.
Dear Buddypress-Users,
at the University of Osnabrück, we currently work on a component/plug-in for Buddypress that enables us to integrate wikis (specifically PmWiki with a few add-ons for the MultiUser environment at our university) into Buddypress. Our goal is to allow each Buddypress user to create multiple wikis. The interface is similar to the creation of blogs and authentication works via WordPress MU/Buddypress, which passes the user on to PmWiki. Additionally the Buddybar is going to be displayed (just like on a blog) above the wiki, in order to guide users back to Buddypress. We don’t put any of the information (e.g. URL, name, description) in the WordPress database, but in the wiki configuration files, so the Buddypress Plugin is pretty straight forward.
We will keep the options in Buddypress rather simple right now, but it might be possible and useful to invite users to write in a wiki via Buddypress. In this first step though, wiki users have to be entered manually.
We want to get the plugin ready by 03/30. If anyone is working on something similar (or knows about a similar project), we would appreciate it, if you could let us know.
All the best,
Tim Schmidt (Tim.Schmidt@uni-osnabrueck.de)
I need to add more profile info in the member directory listing so I created my own member-directory.php in my theme folder with the added fields and that works fine.
However, when I use the Alphabetic filter, the ajax brings back the list without my extra fields. I implemented my own ajax member directory action in bp_custom.php and that also works however I can’t find a way to disable the default buddypress ajax action which gets executed as well causing output problems.
So, the question to Andy
is how to best override the Ajax bit?? I will also need to do this for the blog directory. Finally, I will need to sort the list by several pieces of info from the profile. There doesn’t seem to be a straight-forward way to achieve this, or am I wrong?
Cheers
.
Hi, i’m currently testing BuddyPress.
Seems very promising but some features would be greatly appreciated.
I’ll post them here as I make my tests.
-limit the number of blog creation for each user
-add a Classified Ads section (could be a plugin of BBPress)
-events handling and sharing
-search members with any custom profile field
-handle “karma” for a user (other members can rate his messages, posts, … giving him points)
-possibility of closed subscriptions (only on invitations)
-multilingual support
-add external blog URL or RSS Feed in “my blogs”
-limit login attemps
…Soon more ideas !

but rather I think it’s an example of what you can get done in a fairly simple way.
