Topic: Privacy Settings not working
Im using buddypress trunk-r579, when i create ne profile field and set privacy settings to viewable by member, it seems not working. The field showed to everyone. How to fixed it?
I would like something in that direction, too. A “normal” user, even without a blog, should NEVER be redirected to the WPMU-Backend. Because it is just confusing…
Only if one has to admin it’s own blog, should they see the backend. That would be ok for me
.But maybe that is possible to change somewhere (per example, when the normal WP-Login Screen appears (sorry, I am a Greenhorn, but I am learning by doing and by your feedbacks – thanks for that!!!)

I think I have said this on every post, but BuddyPress is Great!
The one feature that I think would take it over the top would be display the wpmu backend into a space like the “forum placeholder”.
Maybe I am looking at things wrong, but I feel that it is hard to figure out the difference between the back end of the blog (and I think “login” destination) and my profile. For instance, to get back to buddypress homepage, from blog users admin screen, I believe that you have to visit your blog (if a registered blogger) and then hit the little buddypress icon? There might be an easier way, but that seems to be the path of least resistance…..except of course through the dashboard feeds, but my point is made.
If this could all be in the profile section, there is less of a chance that users can get lost.
I also understand that I ask, I code. You really don’t want that. My WPMU backend would look better if Dr. Frankenstein whipped it up. Definitely not pretty. However, it seems like it should be fairly easy if I apply my caveman approach, so I might look at it and take a swing with my club, but if someone else wants wave a magic wand that would be great…….even twirl a baton at it. whatever.
I am having a problem with a brand new install. Here are the steps that I took:
I downloaded the latest version of WPMU (2.6.5)
I copied wp-admin, wp-content, wp-includes directories along with the files in the root installation directory to the root directory of my site.
I installed the database with no problems.
I followed the advice of the BP instructions and I created a new blog, created new posts and comments. Everything worked as expected.
I then downloaded the latest BP zip file (r598).
I copied all of the files and directories in the root directory of the zip to the /wp-content/mu-plugins directory.
I copied the buddypress-home directory to /wp-content/themes directory
I copied the member-themes directory to the /wp-content directory.
I went to the Site Admin->Themes page and selected ‘Yes’ for the BuddyPress Home Theme and ‘No’ for all the others.
Note: At this time the theme for the home page was still the default wordpress blog theme.
I then went to the root blogs (located at / according the the manage blogs page) and change the theme for it to BuddyPress Home Theme.
Now I get Error 404 messages when I select the News or Blogs from the home page. Also, when I go to my member’s page, it says that I have no blogs, to create one. After creating another blog, the member’s page still says that I have no blogs. If I select Members, it doesn’t any, not even the member that I am logged in as. However, if I put the Members Widget on the home page, it lists me there.
I feel pretty confident that I installed WPMU correctly, but I suspect that I didn’t install buddypress to the right location(s).
Please advise.
The Recent Blog Posts and the Site Wide Activity widgets both have code that restricts them to blog id 1.
The Recent Blog Posts widget lives in the mu-plugins/bp-blogs/bp-blogs-widgets.php file. There are two of those nasty blog id 1 checks at line #8 and line #30. Same thing exists in the mu-plugins/bp-activity/bp-activity-widgets.php file.
If you want ‘News’ to work in the home theme then modify themes/buddypress-home/functions.php on lines #49-#50. I just commented them out.
I’m guessing that the thinking behind this restriction is “Get it to work first, then get it to work everywhere”. Kinda like narrowing the possibilities for problems that are gonna exist anyway, down to something trackable. If you browse the forums here and on wpmu you quickly see that wpmu can be installed in about 97 different ways on 205,478 hosts. Slap on a major component like buddyPress, then let noobs like me loose upon the face of the world who want to play with my toys ‘my way’ and I understand the thinking.

In my site the header menu (BuddyPress/Visit) isn´t displayed to visits, only for logged users.
Any idea, please?

I’m already using buddypress with the most recent SVN builds of WordPress MU based on 2.7 with no problems… for testing purposes only mind, WPMU 2.7 still has a bit of work to be done before it’s production ready

Will BuddyPress come loaded with bbPress forums for the /forums/ directory, along with it added for each group created?
I have problem with saving the edited file. I edit the .po file with poedit, but have the problem with editing the line “You have one new message.” where is located in file on 1335 line
1335 msgid “You have one new message.”
1336 msgid_plural “You have %s new messages.”
1337 msgstr[0] “”
1338 msgstr[1] “”
The Poedit can’t edit this line and I can’t save the file.

Topic: Avatars not working
Hi all,
I’m quite new to BuddyPress but I’m finding it very interesting for many Social Network application.
I’ve just installed the release 2.6.5. I’ve tried to register a user but I cannot load the avatars.
I’ve tried to fix the image 50px x 50px as required but nothing happened.
I’ve checked inside the /wp-content/blog.dir directory and I’ve found the avatar images uploaded but they are completey black !
Any idea about it ?

Is there a way to change group permalink on BuddyPress ?

My buddypress is running ok, i think. But i found 3 issues:
1 – I need to put a “/” symbol at the end of complete link like: http://social.bsrecords.com/members/admin/profile”/”
2 – The window title in profile page is: “Nothing Found For Members Admin”
3 – All my widgets goes to left-collum when i try to place them on center or right collums.
Can you help me to fix this errors?

I have posted about BuddyPress on vBulletin.org, the official vBulletin modifications community, suggested that BuddyPress/MU would be an excellent match for existing vB communities, if only a WPMU bridge could be written – there is already a competent and well-supported Bridge with the regular WP.

The thread has generated a certain amount of interest, please add a post to it if you have the time.
VBulletin is a highly-regarded but proprietary forum application used by a substantial portion of the larger, more established online communities. Encouraging them to work on a WPMU bridge now, in anticipation of the pending BP release, would certainly spur high profile adoptions of BP and add momentum to the overall project.

I know it is in testing, but shouldn’t mine work like the demo? If so…… then what are some settings that I could have wrong?
Blogs posts show on main page, sitewide activity is correct, basically everything is ok…..however as admin I have 3 blogs and another trial user has one. None of these show under blog page. Also, when creating blogs before buddypress plugin installation everything was good. After, checked pro google and sitewide, but under wp-admin/settings/provacy it showed as private.
I just don’t get it because the demo doesn’t have these errors. Help would be appreciated.
