This is a known feature of the wonderful and simple (sarcasm intended) bbPress and wpmu integration mechanism.

i’m an italian php developer, i think i’m the youngest guy that is trying wordpress.
So, when i have a non-widget wordpress theme, generally, i add code to widgetize it, but sometimes i need a non-widget theme.
In wordpress when i use non-widget theme, i put code like <?php wp_tag_cloud(); ?> and if it’s possible i costumize the tag cloud adding some piece of code, like <?php wp_tag_cloud(‘largest=30’); ?> (I hope this code it’s correct).
In buddypress if i put the <?php bp_core_widget_members() ?> in my sidebar.php for example it return an error, that says that it can’t use extract that requires the function’s argument, bp_core_widget_members($args).
What do i have to put on $args ? and how can i use widgets in non-widget theme?

I already installed bbpress for support forum. Im also using wordpress integration, if new user registered in buddypress then it will be create new user forum in bbpress. But, the problem is all new user status always inactive. I have change it everytime if new user registered.
Wordpress integration only help us to create new user based on buddypress registration, but failed to change user status.
It seems not so simple for me.

Whoa, that’s confusing because a user was plugging in my display/screen name, they would have no way of knowing the user name unless they look at the status bar path which the average user will never do. I guess the auto complete function will take care of that when it rolls out hopefully soon.
Thanks again for all the hard work here Andy. You and the team are doing some real inspirational work here with buddypress! Not only on the development and visual side, but also on being reactive the all the threads floating around your forums and answering them in a timely fashion.

Buddypress is great.
A couple of suggestions for new features:
1. Following: User should be able to follow other users activities without having to be friends.
Example: I really like a users comments so i could follow him and be updated of his activities (where he commented, posted, added as friend).
2. Followers: A user should be able to see who is following.
Example: So if I’m followed be some users, maybe some of them like the same subjects as me, i would really like to see who is following me.
3. Recommended: A user should be able to recommend post from the social network, user, whatever, and display this recommendations.
Example: I think people should really read this post so, i could recommended it.
4. Favorites: A user should be able to add favorites from the social network. Like favorites posts, favorites user, favorite groups, etc.
Example: Like my own personal bookmarks that everyone can see.
Hey Andy, I’m sure your busy getting the beta ready and all but just wanting to check the status of the group forums… is it looking likely that group forums will make the feature list for the Dec 15 beta or should we be looking to implement an alternative forum solution for now?
Appreciate all your hard work on BuddyPress… you’re making all our lives that much easier!

The IE and avatar issues are known and fixes are in progress. There’s no timetable but as soon as the problems are resolved the fixes will be rolled out.
As a fix for the improper titles (“Nothing found for…” etc.) I highly recommend installing the All in One SEO Pack Plugin. Besides being the best SEO plugin for WordPress imo, it will also take care of those titles, replacing them with the title of your choosing. I use my site title, for example.
Finally, the bbPress dual-login issue is a WPMU and bbPress cookie issue, not an issue with BuddyPress. I’ve found it’s easiest to just have users login a second time rather than mess with the cookies until the bbPress component is added to BuddyPress and bbPress 1.0 is finalized.

Fresh install, going into a brief beta and hoping to launch publicly in January.
I’ve got current versions of WPmu and BuddyPress installed, and have installed bbPress using a separate database, but they seem to be talking together nicely. BuddyPress is working fine and looks great but group forums just show “[Placeholder]” – which I see the Demo sit also has.
How far out is the integration piece for this, and does anyone have a workaround until then?
I also have an issue with the link to the bbPress forums, which is domain.com/forums/ – the home page displays, but the link to the autogenerated posts at domain.com/forums/topic/your-first-topic produces a 404 error with the BuddyPress theme. WPmu was installed with the option for blogs to be created at domain.com/blog – if this is the cause of the error, how do I override it for /forums/? I have added “forums” to the list of disallowed logins.
We’ve been working with Lisa Sabin Wilson of eWebscape who built a custom BuddyPress installation on our newly launched site http://www.weheartthis.com

Some of the biggest issues we’ve faced:
1) IE issues – page alignment is off, toolbars do not work, lots of 404 messages (we’ve encouraged our members who use IE to download Firefox or Safari instead, fingers crossed that the official release will help with some of these bugs)
2) We have the same avatar cropping issue as mentioned by other posters – it’s very hit or miss for us, sometimes it works fine, sometimes it just can’t be done at all)
3) The browser title bar will read, “oops, that’s a 404 page” or “nothing found for ____” even when it isn’t a 404 page or it has found something.
4) We have installed BBpress forums as well. The password and login of our member works for both applications, but members need to login at second time when they land on the forum main page (even if they have already logged in earlier)

I have installed a fresh version of WPMU and Buddypress and I am getting the same issue. If I type in “/blog/news/” it works, but not “/news” as the link in the theme has it.

I believe there is an easy way around this. I’m using the sub directory approach. All I had to do is update the Category base to blog/news and then just update the path in the header.php file under the buddypress-home directory (the one in themes), so the new list item changes to this: <li<?php if(bp_is_page('news')) {?> class="selected"<?php } ?>><a>/blog/news" title="News">News</a>
Seems to work for me with no issues at all.
