ParticipantHello, and thank you for your quick response.
First I definitely agree Help Please – How To: in a how to topic of a help forum may be a little redundant but the reason I did that is because I wanted an individual that knew how to fix this to not over look the post because they thought I was informing others on how to add an avatar as there are tons of people asking similar questions, but each person needs it for a different use, for example forums or what not.
Also as far as the php and avatar issue, once again you are correct. There are so far two areas I have found that I will need to display a user avatar. the user header and the search page for members of the site
I was currently working on trying to get the user avatar inside the individual member header of the user that is viewing their own profile.
I do know that I will need to also do the same thing for the user to view another individuals profile but I figured if I was given the exact php function for the bp_get_avatar and told where to put it in the default themes function I am using I would know what to look for when doing it for the other peoples profile avatar. I found the php code for grabbing and displaying avatars but I dont know what to do with it, or even if it is the right code.
But there are multiple variations of the code in different function files found through out BP so I dont know what to paste where 🙂
Sync Profiles: Yes I have synced the profiles in the bp settings
Testing with twentytwelve: I have just added the following code<?php do_action( 'bp_before_member_header' ); ?> <div id="item-header-avatar"> <a href="<?php bp_displayed_user_link(); ?>"> <?php bp_displayed_user_avatar( 'type=full' ); ?> </a> </div><!-- #item-header-avatar -->I added this code to the header.php and also single.php file and nothing was displayed
the two codes you added are the two codes that I am looking to find out how to display where ever I need through out my theme 🙂 !!!
For example the 1st one you provided is the main persons header and the second one is to display the “members” page where they show who is all online.
So my question to you is, what code do I add to my functions page in order to paste those codes you provided anywhere I need to through out my theme?
Thank you for your time!

ParticipantMost users goes to what seems them the easiest.
3 solutions:
– remove the What’s new form
– add a message above or below the form
– use a giant FORUM button ! 😉You can use this snippet to show them a message (add it to your child-theme functions.php or to bp-custom.php
function bpfr_post_in_msg() { echo 'your message to users goes here'; } add_action( 'bp_before_activity_post_form', 'bpfr_post_in_msg' ); // above what's new form add_action( 'bp_after_activity_post_form', 'bpfr_post_in_msg' ); // below what's new formTo remove the form, use an empty post-form.php containing only the opening & closin php tags
and add it to /child-theme/activity/post-form.phpThe original file is in bp-templates/bp-legacy/buddypress/activity/post-form.php

Participanttitling a support topic with Help please – How to…. is gentle, but ouf of need on a help forum. And for sure not a waranty to get help.
As you have an understanding problem of php, and a supposed theme issue, it would be very helpfull to give its name and some details where to show the avatar.
Apparently your theme use a custom function à la WordPress to get avatars. And this should work, in theory.
Have you synced wp users with bp in bp’s settings ?
Have you tested with one of wp’s default twenty theme ?Depending where to show a user avatar, BuddyPress use different code. You can see this on most of the template files stored in /bp-templates/bp-legacy/buddypress/
On the member header for example; you have
bp_displayed_user_avatar( 'type=full' );
There is also a filter:bp_get_member_avatar;
So it really depends where and how you want your avatar… In a loop, outside of a loop, etcAh, and when you give a topic example, don’t forget to mention the link.

December 8, 2014 at 6:07 pm #230297In reply to: How to Register to contests via BuddyPress profile
danbp
ParticipantFirst of, there is no BP account, it’s a WordPress account with extended information if you use the xprofile component.
When the user is logged in, any information related to him is on his profile, and in fact, this user is then considered a “member” with common user attribute (subscriber, author, and so on).
Now what ? You want a contest page where members can participate.
What do you need on this page ? User information and probably some contest answers.I don’t see the problem you’re affraid of…. At this stage, a contest page or a group or a forum page is the same thing: a place to execute dynamically something related to a contest, a group or a forum. There is no difference for the (logged in) member itself.
Anything related to him is already on his profile page. The difficulty, if ever it exist, is to collect the members who belong to the contest and to send the the xprofile form to the federation.
See if ContactForm7 allows you to send such a form, and perhaps create an additionnal profile tabs where you can add your contest credential, so you can easily extract this part and send it by mail.

ParticipantThanks Dan, I will and let you know.
But as far as me or a competitor is logged, we know about its personal details.
Can’t he sign with its personnal BuddyPress details as done for a group or a forum for example, where all of its details appear ??Just to make sure: I don’t want the plugin to organize the event with schedule or anything else, simply to be able to sign an inscription form with its BP account.
Am I correct?December 8, 2014 at 12:36 pm #230281In reply to: Registration Not Working

Participant@rohitkatke, @rathodsuraj1
sorry to answer this, but here are 25 pages of topics from people having “the same problem”.If you don’t use X theme, if you don’t use woocommerce and if you don’t use BP 2.0.1, you have NOT the same problem as @jlent14 ! 😉
It seems to be, looks like, but most probably isn’t. And generally, jumping in others topic or old topics is not a good idea on this support forum.
To all readers
When encountering a registration problem, first thing to do is to test your install without any plugins and one of WP’s Twenty default theme. Ensure that your site send correctly emails. Before activating any plugin, your base WP install must work.
Once WP is OK – you can install BuddyPress and check your permalinks. Pretty permalinks must be activated to get the plugin working correctly.
This point is important, especially if you have redirection issues after BP is activated.
Second point to check is your theme installation.
Proceeding like this will help you to isolate easely the culprit. If:
– WP install: OK
– BP install: OK
– theme activation: problemSo you know here the problem comes from.
While testing your install, you can activate wp_debug (set to TRUE) in the wp-config file. This can give you a lot of information about conflict and/or errors.
Just keep in mind that these information have 2 levels of importance: notice and warning.
While notice are generally harmless, warnings should be taken seriously in account and solved. If WP is the problem, see first the wordPress support
If it’s BuddyPress, see the BP support
If it’s the theme, see the theme support
If it’s any other plugin, see first the plugin support.Thank you for you attention. 😉

Any help about what plugins or customizations i ll have to do to make this work? (cost is not an issue)
Take a look in the WordPress Plugin Directory to see if there’s anything there that would help.
If you need any custom work done then try adding your requirements to the BP Jobs Board. There should be lots of designers and developers around that can help. Be sure to leave your contact details so that they can get in touch.
December 5, 2014 at 9:52 pm #230218In reply to: [Resolved] Mode "wall" in buddypress groups ?
vfreefly
ParticipantThat’s what I understood. In buddypress groups, the positions of participants in the HOME tab can be sorted by selecting the mode show Show: Updates. This filter by default only shows all new recordings of the group members.
It means that the minimal effort to make the group BuddyPress like groups in VK (FB), you must supply a default filter (Show) on Updates, but not on Everything.
Of course, it would be just fine to prohibit writing to the group (Home tab) everyone except admins and admins. Simple participants in this case can only comment link posted by write (statuses).
That would be cool.
In General, if by and large, need a plugin for this.
No edits in the code and other old school turmoil.
The plugin should add in the settings of each group an option to include a “wall”.
When the Home tab is visible by default only the records of participants, without garbage like the fact that someone new joined the group or posting something new at the forum group. All this debris, normal logic is in the second tab, called “news” or “news”. Just two subsections, “the Wall” and “news”. Genius always simple.
The wall in the group must be of two kinds. Or closed (when it can write only the administration), or open, when any participant has the right to do an update.
Oh and another good plugin should provide the opportunity to include a similar option wall in the user’s profile. No filters. Only “the wall” and “the news, which resets everything except records (status).
Now this would be cool. How strange that this plugin hasn’t written. Such a plugin would be the bomb, because the current logic of the sorting and display of content in buddypress is lame, and similar to the invention of unnecessary bike.
If someone will take over this plugin is ready to join in on graudating with his hand up to$ 100 , with the subsequent right of the author to publish and sell your plug-in anywhere.December 5, 2014 at 1:38 pm #230195danbp
ParticipantYour po/mo files should be added to this path (create it if it doesn’t exist):
wp-content/languages/plugins/buddypress-xx_XX.mo (where xx is the lang ISO code) For english, en_EN or en_US…
If you need more details how translation are working, search for “translation” or “language” on the forum.
Be carefull and keep a copy of these files localy ! 😉

I posted on the WooCommerce support forums so if I find a solution I’ll come back here and post just in case anyone else experiences this.

Participantyour link goes to a 404 error page….
1) if you narrowed down the culprit, the best is to ask for this on their support.
2) another way would be to re-check your forum settings, as explained here, as you use a general forum AND group forums.
3) use the buddypress repair tool
4) have you tested your install with one of WP’s twenty theme (just in case of…)
5) you could also activate debug in your wp-config to se if you get some information.
Miaw ! 😉

ParticipantFor those who care, I have narrowed this down to a conflict with the WooCommerce plugin. When the WooCommerce plugin is deactivated the group forums work properly. When WooCommerce is activated the group forum topics pagination is broken.
Does anybody know why this might be happening?
Unfortunately, WooCommerce is one of those plugins that does not have an alternative–and I can’t deactivate it because it’s an essential part of my site.

milenushka
ParticipantHi @danbp, thanks for the note.
First of all I can still edit the activity page if that’s called activity. Members, groups and forums are locked to additions. I want to add some information for users – why shouldnt I be able to edit this page? It makes no sense.
Also that doesn’t not answer the question why changing the slug would have such an influence. Renaming the slugs used to be a built in buddypress option, since everybody wants to make their buddypress unique and right for their community.

Participantfont sizing is somehow user device dependant, so using extended tinyMCE tools to adjust your output is not a good idea for a public forum. This may be good on a blog where you are the only editor, but that is generally not the case on a forum. 😉
The solution is to modify the CSS !

Participant@djpaul thanks for join the thread. Here is a copy and paste from an email my host sent me:
The other day whilst we were on the phone I was able to view the potential issue in realtime and I could see that there were a growing number of PHP processes being spawned on the server and the RAM consumption of each process kept increasing.
I have attached a screenshot of my findings, although I do not recommend that you include this on any forum as it does include some sensitive information.
The top left section of the screenshot displays the TOP output of your server. As you can see most of the entires were from the Phoenix user, and each process was consuming between 95-259MB of RAM each. This kept growing.
The bottom left section was an Strace output from one of the PHP PID’s, which allows you to see exactly what a processes is doing. Each process referred to the same thing, which was something to do with buddypress.
The top right section displayed entires from the access log in realtime. As we discussed I believe the buddypress plugin loads content dynamically without having to refresh the page, which would explain the low activity in the access log.
The bottom right section was from the MySQL server. It displays the MySQL process-list, which was fine.
Ideally I would first try to find a buddypress developer and then provide them with that output, as it may help point them in the right direction to find out why your site consumes too much RAM.
Hopefully this may shed more light on my problems? Any help form anyone greatly appreciated.
