ModeratorThe ‘Home’ tab of each group shows an Activity stream where you can post updates and other gourp members can comment on them, iow. chat
Do you have the BP Activity component activated?
You can also create a forum for each group via the ‘Manage’ tab.

ModeratorThe code I posted will stop all email activity notifications, though I haven’t tested it 😉
I’m not sure how BuddyPress does all of what it does for these notifications, kind of strange that it is still processing older entries and sending notifications though.
My advice (up until now) has always been don’t import your forums into bbPress with BuddyPress activated for this very reason, though if it starts processing a backlog of notifications for ‘old content’ once activated then this is not ideal behaviour either.

Moderator>here is the thing. the group doesn’t make a forum.
You need to navigate to the group, on the front-end of the site,
then select Manage
then select Forum
then select ‘Yes. I want this group to have a forum.’
and leave ‘Group Forum’ set to (No Forum)
and a forum will be created for you.
The forum will have the same name as the group.Glad you got it working.
You can certainly create a forum yourself and then assign it to the group.
Just wanted to add the info above in case somebody else reads this thread.September 22, 2014 at 9:34 pm #199816In reply to: buddypress private group is not visible in bbpress

Participantthanks for your answer shanebp.
i didn’t understand all you said but it lead me to the solution. so thank youi am a rookie so i didn’t know the basics on how to use buddy press with bbpress…
so maybe a rookie can find this helpfully
this is what i did.
i went to bbpress.
i created a forum called general public and another called vip sectionthen i went buddy press group section and i created a group called vip, here is the thing. the group doesn’t make a forum. you must make it firt. in this example i took the vip section forum.
this were my steps
1) in FORUM. i created:
*general public forum (the one everyone must be able to see and participate) has the standard settings
*vip section forum (the one only for the people of the vip group) has this settings: tipe: forum; State: Open; visibility: Private2) in GROUPS. i created a new group called VIP
this were the settings, Is a Hidden Group. and invitations can only be given by admins and moderators
in this way:
– when people is not logged in they can only see the general public forum.
– when they logging they can participate in the general public forum, they can see the private vip section forum but they cannot participated in it (i wanted that they would see it neither but this is how it works) in other words, they can see the group forum (vip section) but they cannot see what´s inside.
– when a member of the vip group logging they can see and participated in bouth forums.September 22, 2014 at 1:01 pm #199788In reply to: Example sites

ParticipantNo, not without heavy core hacking. You have to find another solution for the edit part. Probably “near” profiles, but not “on” profiles.
Some hints here.

ModeratorSo you created a private group call ‘vip’.
And added a forum to that group via ‘[your-site-url]/groups/vip/admin/forum/’
And added some members to the forum via
wp-admin/admin.php?page=bp-groups -> Edit – Add New MembersAnd those added members cannot see the vip forum listed when visiting
‘[your-site-url]/forums/’ – correct?September 21, 2014 at 4:23 pm #198957In reply to: Private forum post in public activity stream
danbp
ParticipantI’m pretty sure that since BP 1.9 such issues won’t happen (on a correctly configured install).
Private forums are…private and a topic posted in a private forum isn’t shown on the SWA. You can only see such an activity if you’re the author of the post (within (profile > activity) or on the private group.
To be clear, you’re asking
Is there any way to hide activity in private forums from activity stream?
and cite as example an old post titled
Private group posts appearing in Activity Stream to non-members.Hum ? It isn’t the same context i guess. 😉
Do you want to hide private group activities or do you want to eliminate a wrong behaviour, like the second question relates to ?September 21, 2014 at 12:00 am #198741Stephen Edgar
ModeratorThis isn’t a bbPress issue, bbPress doesn’t currently import subscriptions from phpBB so bbPress has no way of knowing what topic or forum a user is subscribed to to be able to send them an email.
I’m pretty sure you’ll find this is BuddyPress sending them if you have it activated, per @halo-diehard same issue here, https://buddypress.org/support/topic/mass-notifications-of-old-mentions/
One of these days I’ll get to reading BuddyPress’ source code in it’s entirety but I haven’t as yet!
I think this should do the trick to stop things though:
remove_action( ‘bp_activity_sent_mention_email’, ‘bp_activity_at_message_notification’, 10, 5 );September 20, 2014 at 9:01 pm #198731In reply to: How to @ mention

ParticipantFunny thing is, it is working after adding imath’s addition to a forum comment. Seems to be awesome! Just in the activity would be grand! Thanks Dan for the suggestion-it is working part way!

Participant@danbp Thank you so much for your assistance. I did place into my bp-custom and tested it out and it still did nothing either in the activity or the forum comments or reply’s. I even tried with a different computer all together with a different user (test user) after flushing the cache from wp and still nothing. I also tested last night to see if it was simply the theme and tried an entire different theme and it still did not work. It is a feature that would truly be helpful to the few members I have but have yet to tell them. The mentions do work however – just no pop up with usernames.
Thank you again
Sincerely,
Will

Moderator[ @henrywright Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy – Unite! ]
I’m not aware of such a WP / BP site.
The plugins you mention re integration should provide a structure for you to get most of the way [ maybe all the way ] tp your goal.
It will be a lot of work.I suggest you set up a dev site and start experimenting.
Get a basic payments flow working first.
If you’re not a developer, you’ll need one at some point.September 19, 2014 at 7:57 pm #197999In reply to: Group Blog

ParticipantWell, I have two problems with that. At least I think I do, but am open to suggestions. I realize that I know next to nothing about all of this.
1) I want the members to be able to post from a form on the front-end of the site, like you would in a forum. I fear that the less computer savvy ones will never be able to figure out how to go to the dashboard and post. The current forum looks like this, where people click on the big GREEN BUTTON “Create A New Post”.
http://community.babycenter.com/groups/a3825/spina_bifida_kids
2) When I give someone author permissions, it gives them authorship over some of my other plugins like book reviews and testimonials and media and stuff I don’t want them meddling with.
Any ideas?
Thanks,

ParticipantHi @danbp
I really appreciate your efforts.
The issue with the link is appeared in the freshness column of the site wide activity. The freshness column on the forum is indeed ok.
For me, let’s say that the working link for my forum topic is:
http://mysite.com/groups/group-name/forum/topic/ένας-εξαιρετικά-μεγάλος-τίτλος-για-να/This link is working great everywhere except of the freshness column (the ago thing) in Sitewide activity. Clicking on this link you get:
http://mysite.com/groups/group-name/forum/topic/ένας-εξαιρετικά-
where points nowhere.I tested without any plugin but BP and bbP, theme: Twenty Fourteen
Thank you very much.

Participanti’m unable to replicate your issue.
I used your title and created a new topic in a group forum.
Title is ok in swa and on group activity, and the ago thing in the Freshness col on the forum is ok too.Have you tested without any plugins but BP & bbP and did you deactivate some of your custom functions while testing (if you use some) ?

@mercime
Participant@yogeshojha11 I don’t see any redirection when you click on a Group link per my check. Nor do I see any forums installed at this point. Have you resolved this on your own then? If you do reactivate bbPress forums, change to one of WP default themes and deactivate all plugins except BuddyPress to ensure it’s not a theme/plugin conflict.
September 17, 2014 at 7:34 pm #197290danbp
Participantforums are bbpress related.
Why a set of 14 mails and not of 15 or 20 ? What is this setting ? Do you use a plugin ? Can also be an old setting from an old and uninstalled plugin. See in wp_option table…

ParticipantThe username as subdomain ?
If you’re on a multisite install, you can probably do that by allowing each user a blog.
But are you sure you want to do this ?September 17, 2014 at 4:11 pm #197257In reply to: New problem i havent seen before?
danbp
ParticipantThe problem is with the hiding of activity comments
How did you hide activities comment ?
Default wp/bp install let you add 5 (nested) comments only. And all comments are shown on SWA. If you have 100 you have to scroll them, yes.
I’m unable to reproduce your issue.Try this bp settings:
check profile syncing
check activity stream commenting for blog and forum
check automatically check for new itemswp discussion settings
uncheck Enable threaded (nested) comments
uncheck Break comments into pagesSeptember 17, 2014 at 3:50 pm #197252In reply to: [Resolved] No button for finishing registration
