MemberI’ve now posted something on the S2Member forums letting them know about the specific issue and asking for a timescale fix: http://www.s2member.com/forums/topic/buddypress-1-6-errors/
Thanks for all your help Karmtosed, sorry to have wasted any of your time digging for something that wasn’t BP’s wrongdoing.

ModeratorJust throwing this in here but is S2 member (or those others) updated for BuddyPress 1.6? http://www.s2member.com/forums/topic/buddypress-1-6/ seems to indicate to me no.

MemberHi Karmatosed,
Thanks for getting back to us so quickly. After a little poking around with my setup it seems the error lies with a plugin I’m using called S2Member. Will post something in their forums and report back with their response.
Thanks.

ModeratorHi Kris3d, first up you’ve probably seen it but can you confirm you’ve followed the steps in this thread? https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/transitioning-from-1-5-x-to-1-6/ Just want to know what stage you are at in diagnosing. Can you also confirm you’ve checked and are using BuddyPress 1.6 versions of any theme or plugins you are using?
That all being said have you tried resaving your settings under settings > BuddyPress and resaving your permlinks under settings > permlinks? Are you using any caching plugins? If so have you tried clearing them? I know some hosting has cache enabled that may be causing issues for you here, it may of course not be the issue though.
Assuming all that is there anything in your error logs on your server that may shed some light? Rather than pasting the entire thing you can use something like https://gist.github.com/ and link in that way please?

ModeratorJust as as sanity check have you both looked at this thread: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/transitioning-from-1-5-x-to-1-6/. I know it may not be relevant but trying to throw something into the mix that may help.
Assuming you’ve upgraded all themes / plugins to 1.6 versions also then I think what is needed here would be information on your setup.
For instance: what did you upgrade from? What theme / plugins are you using? Anything else in your error logs? You can use something like https://gist.github.com/ to paste then link to your error logs.

ModeratorHi lifemore, can you confirm you followed the steps in this thread: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/transitioning-from-1-5-x-to-1-6/. Also what version of WordPress / BuddyPress did you upgrade from? I assume you’ve checked that both your theme and / or plugins using with BuddyPress are also upgraded to versions for BuddyPress 1.6?
Have you tried re-saving your settings for BuddyPress and permlinks under Settings >BuddyPress and Settings > Permlinks?
If all that is correct, could you please if possible provide a link or find out what path is being called for the images. Be helpful to see what the image is being listed as even if it’s a wrong file.

ModeratorJust to check have you updated to the latest version if one is out for 1.6 compatibility? Are you able to switch to the default theme for BuddyPress to test if you still get the error – that way we can determine if your theme or not? I understand though on live site you may not be able to do this.
If it does turn out to be the theme there is this forum https://buddypress.org/community/groups/creating-extending/forum/ for that theme on this site. It would hopefully mean the authors can see any issues you are having and respond.

Keymaster@k12onos – I have confirmed your problem. This bug occurs when you try to use the Activity page as the parent for the Members, Groups and Forums pages.
To temporarily fix this problem, create a new page with a new slug (eg. /community/) and then for your Members, Groups and Forums pages, select this new page as the parent.
Can you confirm that your old behavior worked in BP 1.5?

mrjarbenne
ParticipantI thought that integrating BBP 2.1.2 meant you didn’t have group forums, but a sitewide forum. In order to have forums that are connected to specific groups, I think you need the bb-config.php (bbpress version 1) file in your wp-content folder. This should be automagically created when you enable forums for groups: https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/#bp-group-forums
Having the newer version of bbpress (the full plugin available through the repo, and activated through your plugins menu) will create forums separate from the groups you create.

ModeratorHi queenieb, would you happen to have a link to see your site in action? Also do you have any other plugins active on your site? If you do, if they are removed does the issue still happen? I’m trying to see in saying that whether you have a scripting issue from a plugin or not.

ParticipantJust wanted to add my two-pennies worth to this discussion – I had the error posting topic message and the “forum not enabled in this group” message too. I had already enabled forums and previously posted. Somewhere along the line though, I hadn’t realised – perhaps it was during migration to subdomain, that bb-config hadn’t been updated, but when I updated the bb-config in the root folder to match the details in the wp-config, it suddenly worked perfectly again, so double check your bb-config files!

ModeratorThe only cases where themes for BuddyPress wouldn’t need to have BuddyPress would be if they have a check in them and say they work without BuddyPress. If you want the ‘BuddyPress functionality’ then yes you have to install BuddyPress. It sounds like you do if you say forums/members/groups.

ModeratorThe BuddyBar has been merged with the WordPress bar in this version of BuddyPress. It actually has a lot more functionality. There is some discussion on this topic https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/how-can-i-use-old-buddypress-admin-bar-if-i-dont-want-to-use-this-new-one-in-1-6/ that may give you a few more options.

You can enhance the WordPress menu system to support dynamic links (including BuddyPress profile links) – there is a specific filter that you need to use.
Please take a look at this other recent forum thread, and the link on there which has all the details: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/creating-extending/forum/topic/how-to-create-new-dynamic-menu-including-bp-links/
You’ll need to be a competent PHP developer, but if so, it’s relatively straightforward

Participanthttps://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/wp_get_current_user works with buddypress… I use it like this.
To personalise the admin bar I use something like this (bp version 1.5.7)

Participant@michaelsanborn All bbPress versions are located at https://bbpress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/tags Just click on the version you want and in the next panel, download zip on click near bottom of the screen. Having said that, you know that the old stand-alone bbPress versions are only compatible with much older and less secure WP versions.
If you or someone else updates the converter, you should take into consideration that the BP Group Forums will be integrated into the bbPress plugin sitewide forums. https://bbpress.org/support/

ParticipantThought I’d bump this, since I really want to know… there ought to be a way to convert WordPress posts and their associated comments to forum threads. The script at:
http://code.google.com/p/wordpress-to-bbpress-converter/
requires the standalone version of bbPress. The bbPress legacy download page:
https://bbpress.org/download/legacy/
returns “Error 404 – Destination not found” messages for all links to the old standalone bbPress. And anyway, surely there’s a more recent way of accomplishing this? Any help would be appreciated.
