Participant@frank13 the list mentions one of the most powerful ways to speed up any wordpress install:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/w3-total-cache/it is a bit of a slog to *properly* select the right features for your particular install but W3 is pretty powerful – just be careful, the plugin is dangerously good – meaning that if you don’t know what you’re doing it can $#&! your site
my suggestion was for two reasons, I don’t understand why testbp.org exists because that functionality can be performed by buddypress.org
also, buddypress.org is for some strange reason very slow
look up your site using this service and see ifyou can find bottlenecks:
http://www.webpagetest.org/result/120720_0E_TC8/ (3.3 second for testbp.org)
http://www.webpagetest.org/result/120720_3N_TDF/ (7 second for buddypress.org)

ParticipantIs there a reason why you are posting endless duplicates, and typing in capitals… are you a particularly important person, more so than anyone else on this forum?
You can’t delete buddypress.org / wordpress.org (they are the same thing) accounts
I’ve got no idea why Automattic pursue this policy — I’ll agree with you that it seems ridiculous. If you mention it on their wordpress.org forums, quasi-Automattic employees will shout you down (I guess they don’t adhere to the ‘customer is always right’ mode of operating).
Of course, you should be able to delete your account, but you can’t.

ParticipantSounds like you’ve been compromised then, but little we can do to help based on the info you have supplied and this forum isn’t probably the best place to be asking really.
You need to investigate and you should by now have taken your site down from public access, changed all your login details; WP logins FTP/SSH then you need to start looking at your files and server logs – have you started any of that yet?
For security issues you will probably be better off posting on the WP forums.

ModeratorTo see if it is a theme issue have you tried or can you try the default theme and see what it does? I know in an active community this may not always be possible but it would be an indication once and for all if theme related.
Aside from that it could very well be a theme versus plugin issue and some scripting clashes. To determine / start looking at that though would it be possible to have a link to the site?

MemberInteresting comment @Asynaptic (although it should probably be in its own topic thread).
We have been building an intranet site using BuddyPress over the past 3-4 months. We have 40+ members currently piloting it. We are a week or so away from opening it up to our entire organization of 200+ people.
One of the major issues I have been focused on is site speed and performance. I have been wrestling over and over with it to understanding if it is inherent in BP or has something to do with our server. We host about 60-70 other sites on the server and none of them perform as slowly as BP does.
I’ve done everything possible including all the recommendations at http://www.buddyboss.com/buddypress-speed-and-performance/
It runs better, but we still get feedback from the community every now and again on how slow it is loading some of our static pages as well and the dynamic ones.

Participanthttp://i18n.trac.BuddyPress.org/ was created a long time ago – BP 1.1 i guess – for translations. This was announced on this forum by Andy.
But you’re right @djpaul, the url was never populated or mentionned since, except perhaps on Codex (de profondis). Same thing for Glotpress. I worked whith it at the beginning, but was rapidly tired by copy/pasting and some bugs.
Glotpress could be usefull in a collaborative perspective, not for a one man work. It’s faster to translate offline with poEdit. Without saying that i can rapidly jump to my archives, control the final output and so on. My browser is not a office, despite look alike sometimes.
In my point of view, the above url is the best repository for mo files, with sorted versions and fast zipped download.FYI, the i18n exist also for wordpress https://i18n.trac.wordpress.org/browser and is really used by many translators.
I also don’t know how things proceed. I translate BP in french since 2008/12 without any instruction,, except the invite to use the i18n trac for better translation access.
That said, does BP already need translation ? The pot file is the only thing you need to proceed. Because the software is very customisable, a standard translation is not very usefull, because 3/4 of the words can be customized too, to fit a unique BP project.

ParticipantThanks @mercime I noticed that the activity stream shows up once you change your name/user name but not retroactively. That is the activity of the user before that change does not show up.
May I ask if this weird requirement (that the user name and name be different) is a standard buddypress thing or if buddypress.org customized it somehow?
July 20, 2012 at 5:43 am #137640Asynaptic
ParticipantPaul, if I may offer a suggestion:
Combine buddypress.org and testbp.org
and hopefully that will also resolve the slow loading times that plague buddypress.org (for some strange reason, testbp.org is much snappier)
July 20, 2012 at 4:31 am #137639@mercime
Participant@shashankism the best person to help you is that plugin’s developer. You could ask the plugin developer to make it compatible with BuddyPress or post at dev’s forums http://betterwp.net/community/

MemberYes, tried under the circumstances you describe : no plugin installed.fresh WP and BP install.BP default theme. On another note, This is the only bug I have on the complete WP install with about twenty plugins and components running so it has nothing to do with the plugins/themes.
During the install process the forum installation process completes but the admin button never displays “installed” when the install popup opens it does say “installed”.Thank you for answering so far, I hope someone can give me a clue…

MemberHi Roger,
“including site wide forums” – does that mean that posts under bbPress are automatically added to the activity stream, even when bbPress was installed BEFORE BuddyPress? If I look at http://www.mysite.com/activity which is the page I’ve set up with BuddyPress pages, it’s only showing BuddyPress-side activities.
And no, I don’t think it’s a problem with the buddydev’s widget plugin, as it seems to be able to publish BuddyPress activities just fine.
Hey Paul,
I will do that, however I have found a couple of threads discussing the same issue so I guess I’ll add mine to those.
https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/bbpress-2-manual-activity-stream-integration/
https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/how-do-i-set-up-bbpress-and-buddypress/I’ve tried the suggestions there to no avail.

KeymasterIf bbPress 2 does not add activity stream entries to your activity directory (e.g. example.com/activity), you need to also post about this on the bbpress.org forum.

ParticipantI’ll be surprised if anyone has a sample piece of code using search_terms to post on the forum
You may be best to give it a try — write some test code, and see what happens.
By walking through the bp_has_members() function, you should be able to determine how to set up your search string

ParticipantThe bbPress plugin does create entries in the activity stream by default… including for site wide forums.
Sitewide activity widget is not part of BuddyPress — it’s a 3rd party plugin from buddydev
Do you see your bbPress activities in the normal BuddyPress activity stream? If not, there is something wrong in the way you have your site configured.
If you problem is just in the sitewide activity stream widget, then try asking on their forums at Buddydev.
Remember to include version numbers for your WP / BP and bbPress

MemberHi,
The error log I posted encompasses the errors that have been generated while I was micking around with reinstalling buddypress and bbpress.
I have both bbPress and Buddypress installed currently, and I also have the Activity Streams component enabled.
However, a ticket from way back three years ago explains what I think the problem is. https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/241
If I go to my profile, and post an update on my profile, this gets saved in bp_activity. But anything new topic creation or reply on my bbPress forum, it DOES NOT get saved in that table. So it looks to me that stuff created in the BuddyPress side gets saved in bp_activity, but stuff from the bbPress side do not.
Is there any way so that user activities from bbPress gets saved to this BuddyPress table?
=========
== EDIT ==
=========
I have tried deactivating all plugins apart from bbPress and BuddyPress. Also, switched to the theme that came with BuddyPress. SiteWide Activity Stream is still limited to just BuddyPress activities.Note that I have User Groups and Discussion Forums (within Groups) DISABLED, which is how I do want it, as we want the community as simple and straighforward as possible while still enjoying the awesome features like messaging from BuddyPress
I also imagine that if I were to create Groups in BuddyPress, and then post messages in Forums of that Group, it will get posted to the Activity Stream. But I really do not want Groups.
I understand that this may very well be how the plugin was designed to work, but this is a plea for a little help now
July 19, 2012 at 9:10 am #137583PE Scholar
Member@djpaul – Just the standard, out-of-the-box BuddyPress registration process for now. Couple of additional fields, all added as standard (via BP profile settings).
We are looking into using Gravity Forms for user registration in the future, mainly so that we can hook Twitter (& other social url’s) into extended & custom profile field, and also to make the registration process self-contained (not requiring email activation), but right now, we’re just using out-of-the-box functionality/forms.
FYI – We’re also using the Mingle theme by Parallelus but having raised this issue over on their support forums, I was informed that it’s highly unlikely to be a theme-related issue, which is fair enough really.

@mercime
Participant@b1gft there are a couple of simple ways to go about deleting “freshness” from group forums
1. Simplest of the rest -> Just add the following at the bottom of your theme’s style.css file
`span.time-since { display: none !important; }`or 2. Copy over https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/tags/1.5.6/bp-themes/bp-default/forums/forums-loop.php to your themes /forums folder, open it up and delete line #85
or 3. filter bp_the_topic_time_since_last_post in functions.php

ParticipantSpecs
1. WordPress latest
2. Buddypress latest
3. Frisco theme
4. Use bbpress 2.0 for group forums
5. Use “GD bbpress Tools” plugin to have a signature. (its sad that bbpress doesnt have such a basic feature)For the second time in my entire life, I had a look at PHP and CSS. I hope I can cope with. Till then which is the “Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”?
