@mercime
Participant@mammothIdeas you’re welcome. Glad you were able to resolve it

MemberHi @mercime thanks for the reply. I tried disabling all plugins and I still get the problem with the topic_slug not being created correctly. I also tried putting it back to the default theme and still having the problem. Any other ideas?

MemberThanks for the Reference link. Once I read through that, I made sure that there wasn’t a page associated with the forums in the BP Settings. Then after that, I went to BuddyPress > Components > and unchecked Discussion Forums and it is working great.
Thanks @mercime for your help.

Non-members of the site?Nonetheless, That feature isn’t provided out of the box.
Is using bbpress site-wide forums out of the question for the functionality you require? You can allow both with bbpress.

MemberA database backup is precisely what I was talking about…now you can see I’m a total newb! I thought the backup would capture all configurations at the time of the back up. I learn something new everyday with this stuff!
I took a look at the links you sent me. My email settings do match what is on the hostmonster site. My address is admin@shopcents.net. I also downloaded the Mail from plugin to see if things would smooth out in conjunction with WP Mail SMTP as suggested in the other forum post but no luck. It seems as though this problem can be the result of many many different things and I’m afraid I don’t have the knowledge to dig down and deep to figure it out.

Participant@chr313 no problem with periods or ellipsis [ … ] at end of Title of Group Forum Topic at all. Have you tried deactivating plugins or changing to bp-default theme to check if issue is corrected.

ParticipantWhat theme are you using? What archive-slug did you assign to your Sitewide Forums – forums? Did you create a page named forums then? In other words, can you give the steps to what you’ve done so far so we can get a better perspective? Reference: https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/

ParticipantI too am needing an answer to this. My bbPress posts are not showing up in the activity steam. Can anyone at least address the issue? Is this or is this not possible? If it is not possible just let us know, but don’t just ignore it.
Thanks.

ParticipantCommendable! all but adding atahowlerhooper to the list that is

Guess I should have seen that list. My only worry with the list and all that work you’ve put in is that it rests on the forum links and posts themselves remaining true, be nice if there were some easy means of bundling stuff into a template zip or some such ‘thing’.
Right I’ll sidetrack post no more now I’ve vented my fury at atahowlerhooper

Member@mercime I did what you told me by changing almost to all available permalink and the issue still exists. The error I am getting is:
The following active BuddyPress Components do not have associated WordPress Pages: Activity Streams, Discussion Forums, User Groups, Members.
but when I go Buddypress pages I can not find any of the above pages to associate Activity, Streams and so on.
Plus I am using Templatic GeoPlaces theme.Thanks for your help.

Participant@indieconnect Good luck.
@hnla I know, I know, Atahualpa’s tables and all. But it’s a valid request for a popular theme plus it’s much much much better than the Artisteer” themes which I have declined to “template-pack-it” even if table-less. Having said that, all customization requests for BP-Atahualpa layout should be sent to theme author

== you must have a good working list of themes now? for a codex list ? ==
Done it, I did
I’d already started compiling and adding to the list of all template-packed themes (45+) assisted in forums and 3 posted in Codex. My last update includes Atahualpa.https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/wordpress-to-buddypress-theme/#template-packed-wordpress-themesApril 10, 2012 at 5:05 pm #132772In reply to: [Resolved] BuddyPress strategy for a newbie…

ParticipantNo, I would follow mercime’s advise to set up a test install to trial aspects of BP with but also activate BP on main site but until ready keep the main components de-activated except profiles, friends, messaging and use the WP menu to build your main menu so that you can ensure ‘groups’, ‘forums’, and ‘activity stream’ pages aren’t listed, this way you can run with user account/profiles from the front end and slowly introduce the other BP components as and when required.

ParticipantI know I always mince my words, should really learn to say it how it is

Table layouts are unsustainable, fragile, break all notion of separation of content from style, throw one of the main virtues of CSS-P out with the trash, on many a forum dealing in Standards based frontend coding you’ll find many that will simply not help with table layouts, 10 years down the road and we really should have seen the back of them.
I’m sure Mercim’s changes will be effective, but lets hope we don’t see too many BP themes popping up using it
– sorry Mercim not meaning to insult your efforts :pIn fact Mercime you a have helped with so many third party theme conversions to BP that you must have a good working list of themes now? for a codex list ?

ParticipantThank you for going the extra mile to feel my pain. Me and etienne-r greatly appreciate it. The floundering discussions in the Atahualpa forums really show that people want to be able to make the two work together, but just can’t quite get there.
Yesterday I was cruising the forum looking for the secret knowledge and I found a post about Buddypresss ‘remembering’ settings from previous installs. Mine does this. Do I need to go through that? will it matter? and should it be done before this new and exciting list?

Participant== , to check if the changes were rendering, which they are not. ==
@nathanwoulfe Sanity Check. When you say child theme, do you mean child theme of the bp-default theme? If not, if you have a child theme of a regular WP theme, have you installed the BP Template Pack plugin and have gone through Appearance > BP Compatibility process?
WP/BP versions?== a h3 tag
[?php _e( ‘Site Activity’, ‘buddypress’ ); ?]
that isn’t rendering either… ==
– I’ll assume that you used brackets instead of the “ symbols so that they show up in forum post. Know that you don’t have to use brackets, just surround your code with backticks, symbol you see between parentheses `( ` )`
– the Site Activity title doesn’t show up in Activity Directory page when user is logged inApril 10, 2012 at 12:25 am #132744In reply to: Emails Not Sending After Update to 1.5.5

ParticipantI’m not sure what you mean by backup.
If you mean just the database then the newer version bp files will still be there anyway….
Some other solutions were suggested in https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/buddypress-activation-email/
Do your settings conform to what is on https://my.hostmonster.com/cgi/help/206

ParticipantI installed BuddyPress and changed the theme to the bp-default. How do I know if everything is working? I get the toolbar up top, but the links go to 404 Not Found. Except for Groups – that goes to a page with Group Directory and link to Create a Group that works. If I go to Profile>>Public it brings up my page indieconnect.com/publicity.
When I click on Forums I get multiple errors.[Errors acknowledged and deleted – too long in our forum page]
So is this working for something that has not gone through the BP Compatibility stuff?

ParticipantGot it. Also, does BuddyPress create any new user roles? I was wondering if I have default role set as forum contributor, then will they be able to use Buddypress even though they are just forum contributors?

Participant== it looks so rubbish in IE. ==
Yup, IE < 9 is bane of designer/developer
There are still at least 2 solutions as I pointed to above if you want to pursue the buttons later.== But please is there a way to wrap the Edit Profile link which is in the item-header so that it shows on your own profile alone and not when viewing others profile. instead of hiding it under private message button. ==
Saw your new topic and answered you there https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/how-to-make-a-link-show-on-your-profile-alone/
