In reply to: Anchor tags/permalinks for individual forum posts?
lautering
ParticipantIn beta or RC? I’m using beta, and the permalinks on the activity stream take you to the topic thread, but not to an individual post. Within the threads themselves, there are no hyperlinks (unless I’ve messed up some code somewhere and deleted them).
What I’m looking for is a permalink as it exists on these forums — like where the # links to under each individual post.

ParticipantNot sure what you’re talking about. In 1.2 the permalinks on the activity stream for forum posts take you right to the post, not the forum itself (“View” And you can alwys click on the topic title or the forum to go to those levels.

Participant@symm2112. Tried to access the ‘private’ forum but I guess you have to be a paid member. Most sites that require paid membership have pre-sale questions thread to address these type of things. Might be a good idea.
NEway, I’d be interested in seeing these efforts merged. They seem too similar to keep separate. If Brajesh has a longer timeline, maybe the development help can change that. It also sounds like Brajesh will have incentive to keep it going due to being compensated.
Just a thought. We have so many other things that BP needs, I’d hate to see too much duplication. That said, if the functionality/use cases are different, maybe it’s justified.

KeymasterOK, that’s weird. I just double-checked the plugin situation, and it turns out that the problem was being caused by wpLicense, which allows blog owners to specify whether they’d like a CC license. Weird. I will check out the plugin code to see if I can spot the conflict.

KeymasterThanks, Ray. It’s there, appears to be complete, and is readable by apache. bb-config.php is also where it’s always been, and has all the right info. Dashboard > Forums Setup is telling me bbPress is set up correctly, but I reinstalled bbPress just for kicks, both as a new and an existing installation, and it’s still not working.

Participantbedo02, followed your advice multiple ways. Been posting quite a bit and would love some code excerpts for how to make certain things show up in the forums. For example, with the one-click, only groups show up, and I’d like to replicate what BuddyPress does here https://buddypress.org/forums (displays “Main Themes”).
I’m able to access bbPress’s admin, but I don’t know how to make the forums and posts made there show up in BuddyPress. Been posting and could really use some code examples.

Michael Berra
ParticipantI say it again: GREAT plugin – thanks alot!!!
A couple suggestions/questions:
1. Do I get it right: I can set the default in the backend, but eyery user (not the group admin) sets/changes the notification for themselves?
2. Forum-Notification: I don’t want forums activated on my site, but I cannot get it off (no CSS classes for display:none). It is also not dynamically I guess, for I disabled forums in the backend, but still shows forum-notifications… Any solution to this?
3. What exactly means “added something new to the group”? Is that comments? Is that another plugin like gallery, group-documents etc?
4. Member must be registered for option: When I type 0 in the field, that would mean no delay, right?
5. “You can also specify a minimum gap in time between updates regarding group wiki page edits.” This sentence does not make sense to all the users who haven’t wikis installed. It’s hardcoded. Any solution to get rid of it?
6. Last but not least: Is it translatable??? I really would love to do that for german (at least try it as my first
) – could you provide a POT-File?Thanks for all the work. This is REALLY IMPORTANT for us and well/simple made!
Ps: This is my test-install-site: http://wp.graphic-studio.ch/network – there I am testing your plugin

ParticipantI think the bP Geo plugin is a farce. I have tried multiple times to contact the dev team there to no avail. They even go so far as to claim to be sponsored by Automattic. Seems doubtful. They are nowhere on this forum and no one has been able to get their plugin to work.Call me suspicious. You are better off trying @jjj’s plugin https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-member-map/ He is a living, breathing person as opposed to the aforementioned dev team

ParticipantI had a similar dilemma but managed to figure it out, even how to add javascript without screwing up the activity stream (see https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/add-content-above-activity-stream-in-bp12 ).
Assuming you’ve elected to have site activity shown on your home page, you want to add content to bp-default>activity>index.php. Not home.php. The neat thing is that you can add content that displays to non-logged-in users that is different than that displayed to logged-in users.
You can see it in action on my site here: http://rspace.org

peterverkooijen
ParticipantThanks for the mention nickbwatson. I did not write the code, it was assembled from several sources with help from BP developers.
In my version I generated the username/user URL from the fullname, onkeyup on the form. I use the same javascript trick for blog name. I think there were some security objections to doing that, but it works for me for now.
Someone earlier also posted a simpler php version that produces an entirely random string as value for username on a hidden input field. Can’t find that post…

KeymasterAs per a recent dev chat:
People really loved the feature poll which was on the site back in the heady days of BuddyPress 1.0. We are going to create a new sub-forum where anyone can post any ideas or features into the hat that they’d like to see in future BuddyPress versions. A future dev chat will then go through the ideas, make a selection, then put those into a poll on the site for people to vote on. This will decide what happens to BuddyPress in 1.3 and beyond.

ParticipantFirst of all I don’t know where the error logs are? What directory?
Secondly If it is running ok from the BuddyPress plugin directory shouldn’t it be installed ok. Like I said before members can login with their main site passwords and post stuff and new forums are created at a new group being created.

ParticipantI’m watching this back and forth and wondering, what would be most successful long-term.
My answer: Standardization. Otherwise, I find it hard to believe someone will keep such an ambitious project going. This will likely happen through inclusion in core or just adoption rates.
Right now, I need a solution that works with BP, allows user-uploaded content and ties into third-party hosting. As WP moves more into CMS-mode, many of the “features” described in this post will be desirable for non-bloggers running large community sites. I think that for many nearly-free sites, creating large userbases is going to be a big problem in 6-12 months. I’m trying to plan around that problem.
I posted my ideas of extending the Cincopa plugin at https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/creating-a-cincopa-gallery-plugin-for-buddypress. I’d love thoughts on that, but I’d support a commercial solution for support that solved my third party hosting issue.
February 7, 2010 at 12:05 am #62586In reply to: Activate plugins for all blogs
@mercime
ParticipantACTIVATE PLUGINS FOR ALL BLOGS – First and foremost, one has to read the installation instructions of plugin authors. Some plugins might require uploading to wp-content/mu-plugins folder and some to the regular plugin folder or some plugins require to be uploaded to both mu-plugins and regular plugins folder.
Plugins uploaded to mu-plugins folder (per plugin author instructions) are already activated site-wide and will not be seen in Plugins > Installed unless that’s the way the plugin author set it up. Some mu-plugins do not need further configuration in Site Admin > Options or anywhere else, but some mu-plugins still need additional configurations in Site Admin > Options or somewhere else the plugin author specified.
Plugins uploaded to regular plugins folder may need to be activated sitewide in Plugins > Installed panel or may only be activated for a specific blog AND some plugins made for single WP may not be compatible with WPMU. Some Site Admins use the Plugin Commander plugin to activate a specific plugin sitewide. Even so, in certain cases where such plugin is not WPMU-ready/aware, Site Admin has configure settings of such plugin in each new blog or create a function to do so.
Finally, as DJPaul mentioned above, a better way to check if a plugin for single WP works in WPMU install, is to check out the WPMU forums or WPMU related forums and always check installation instructions of plugin authors.
THEMES ONLY FOR MEMBERS – BuddyPress setting – if you allow the BP members to create blogs and these members purchased a theme for their use only, you could activate the theme for that specific blog via Site Admin > Blogs > Edit link and associate that theme with the specific blog. Only that member will see the premium theme in his/her Appearance > Themes panel.
Site Admin needs to be vigilant about uploading free or premium themes in that there might be obfuscated or encrypted codes within the theme as you don’t exactly know where theme was downloaded from. In addition, some advanced themes would require uploading different theme files in root of installation to wp-admin and/or wp-includes folder which might totally break your install.
Excuse the long post, going thru a lazy rainy afternoon.
