    What assumption did you make in my directions that were not correct? Just trying to understand how everyone interprets things. Getting forums integrated seems like a simple task, but it really can be a pain for so many people! As well, cookie integration is a nice thing to do *after* getting this working since it complicates things in my opinion due to the massive amount of information coming at you even without getting into cookies….

    I think this is an essential request! Instead of adding tons of new features the focus should be on the basic features again; to build a tool that connects people and allows communitation! Everyone who wants to use Buddypress for an international purpose needs multi-language support for the frontend. It would be great to have language filters for the contents like on wordpress.com or facebook.com. If the user prefers swedish instead of english for instance he should only get blog posts/groups and forums in his choosen language. This is definitely one point that should be considered in future development.

    Whats your thoughts about this?

    Alright, got xmlrpc all worked out. I was make an assumtion in Trents directions that was not correct. I found this doc and it answered a few questions I had.

    https://trac.buddypress.org/browser/trunk/bp-forums/installation-readme.txt (btw – this link should be made much clearer in the BP install docs. Maybe make is a sidebar nav link)

    Still trying to integrate cookies. Anyone got any words of wisdom on that one?

    I was working on the same problem. Have a look at this thread. I’m not sure how secure my solution is, but it was quick and if you come up with some better coding to handle it, then let us know. See:

    No Todd, you’re actually right on point, and these are suggestions that have been mentioned before so you can bet that these will be addressed in future updates.

    I’m going to close this topic and route further discussion to the previous topic below.

    Thanks Jeffca for adding that to the trac.

    The forum for an event gets created successfully, but the forum and icon does not appear in the “optionsbar” as does when a forum is created for a group.

    Add a vote for categories/tags feature also! Thanks!

    Interesting point John, thanks.

    After spending a few hours with little success, it seems I am having difficulties on 2 fronts: wpmu and bbpress integration and buddypress xmlrpc integration.

    I am at times not sure which one I am troubleshooting.

    Gonna close this topic to lure everyone over to the other party. :)

    #39443

    Yep that’s exactly correct. In theory, to create a post from within the Group forum, you should not need cookie integration, because the XMLRPC request happens very ajax-like behind the scenes and does not require for you as a specific user to be logged into both platforms.

    However, to click over to the forums and post inside of them, you will want to have cookie integration for the transparent optimal user experience that most of us are striving for.

    Here some info on the Facebook connect,maybe if it works with wordpress Mu then it could work for BP.

    What do you think?

    OK, I am starting to realize my next wrong turn. This is my first dive into BBpress and when the topic of this post said “assuming you have wpmu and bbpress all set up” – I thought I did, but I didn’t.

    BBPress Newbs FYI:

    There is a whole cookie/hash integration that has to happen that I have not looked at yet. Here are 2 great resources on the topic

    Andy – just caught your reply (a by product of the no email notification capabilities of forum posts – we are working on that as an added feature)

    Will now add this as an enhancement

    I have managed so I can now post, but I still get the “There was an error posting that reply.” if anyone but me (the main admin in bbpress) tries to post. No else seems to have permission to do start new topics or reply.

    Developers using faked host file domains

    This only applies if you are developer with a PC and a development server and you are faking domains in your hosts file.

    As part of the bbPress integration procress you have to login to wp-admin > bbPress forums and then you need to put in the URL of the bbPress forums so WPMU/BP can connect to them.

    Now if you are using a faked domain from a hosts file on your PC but your code is on a dev server and that faked domain DOES NOT exist in DNS then you must add that faked domain to the hosts file of your dev server.

    If you don’t WPMU will not connect to bbPress until that domain exists in DNS or you fake it on the server too. Because, you enter a full URL in the settings that allow WPMU/BP to connect to bbPress. The server looks up that URL, it doesn’t exist in DNS and therefore won’t connect.

    After spending an hour on this, I realized that the forum settings in my BP dashboard were being set in my blog dashboard – NOT in the root dashboard. Wow.

    Glad to have it working but why is that site-admin section even in the “blog” admin section?

    Its always the little things, right?

    In reply to: BP Avatars in bbPress

    No sweat. I ask because lets say I make a “Signature” field, it’s a textarea, and it’s going to be used for their forum signature.

    If their signature is "<a href="bob" style='color: red;'>Bob</a>, is amazing!" is BuddyPress going to parse the crap out of it, and is this going to understand that?

    okay.. for future BP installers if you get 500 error after mu install and your host doesn’t like your .htaccess file

    the default htaccess.dist looks like this

    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase BASE/

    #uploaded files
    RewriteRule ^(.*/)?files/$ index.php [L]
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !.*wp-content/plugins.*
    RewriteRule ^(.*/)?files/(.*) wp-content/blogs.php?file=$2 [L]

    # add a trailing slash to /wp-admin
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^.*/wp-admin$
    RewriteRule ^(.+)$ $1/ [R=301,L]

    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f [OR]
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -d
    RewriteRule . - [L]
    RewriteRule ^([_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/)?(wp-.*) $2 [L]
    RewriteRule ^([_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/)?(.*.php)$ $2 [L]
    RewriteRule . index.php [L]

    <IfModule mod_security.c>
    <Files async-upload.php>
    SecFilterEngine Off
    SecFilterScanPOST Off
    </Files>
    </IfModule>

    But…

    notice line #2

    RewriteBase BASE/

    this should read

    RewriteBase /

    so if you get 500 error.. this could be the culprit – works for me

    That would be nice. It could include members activity, forum activity, wire activity. Ya, nice idea. Why don’t you post it in trac as an enhancement ticket?

    Hah! I see that little snippet of code all over the place now. Like the term ‘buddybar’ which is coming back to haunt me. :)

    I created another little snippet for somebody in the forums, which restricts the user to one blog per customer. Something like the 5 line thing above. Now on my dev server *I* can’t get more than one blog created because I’ve forgotten where I put the damn thing.
