ParticipantOk, I know it’s not the correct php way, but in lieu of any other option I’ve found how to remove showing it with css – posted in BuddyBoss here: http://www.buddyboss.com/support-forums/topic/1st-month-feedback-mobileresponsive-theme/ and I put this code…
#buddypress #admins-list div.action a, #buddypress #mods-list div.action a, #buddypress #members-list div.action a, #buddypress #groups-list div.action a, #buddypress #friend-list div.action a{display:none;}
in my child theme style.css file.
Hope it helps other who are stuck too 🙂March 30, 2015 at 7:18 pm #236965danbp
ParticipantI opened a ticket: https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/6335#ticket
Login (same as here) and subscribe, so you can follow dev’s opinion. Not sure they come to the forum quickly.I’m not sure it is a BP issue. Could also be a plugin or a corrupted one who takes action when BP is enabled. Can even came from WP itself.
So i strongly recommend you close the site access. You will loose much more as some signups if that issue is viral.
Have you some server access log to share ? Or warnings coming up ? Activate debug in wp-config
You (we) have to wait for more opinions about this. Keep calm and stay confident.

ParticipantHi.
I am also using wordpress 4.1.1 and buddypress 2.2.1 and for all pages, which I need to map via the settings page I am getting a blank page: Groups, Members, Register and Activate. I am using the default theme. It is a multi-site setup, however buddypress is only used on the main site (first blog) and also only there activated.
I did only minor styling via the themes css and the header.php.WP_Debug does not show any errors as well as the Apache log is empty.
It was working fine until i updated recently the connected bbpress for forum.
Besides that I am using following plugins:
bbP private groups
bbPress
bbPress Advanced Capabilities
BP Registration Options (DEACTIVATED CURRENTLY)
BuddyPress
BuddyPress Group Email Subscription
BuddyPress Like (DEACTIVATED CURRENTLY)
BuddyPress Multilingual
HookPress (DEACTIVATED CURRENTLY)
Nginx Helper (only on staging)
Page Builder by SiteOrigin (DEACTIVATED CURRENTLY)
Paid Memberships Pro
Paid Memberships Pro – bbPress Add On
Paid Memberships Pro – Register Helper Add On
Social LoginNetwork activated:
WordPress SEO
WPML Multilingual CMS
WPML String Translation
Events ManagerMy dev environment is XAMPP on Mac and on the staging is a linode cloud server with Ubuntu on Nginx (I think). Both have the same issues.
It’s not a live site yet, just demo, therefore some of the plugins might get activated if I am back on track.Tried it now to get it run for about 15 hours:
– I also deactivated all plugins except buddypress and still did not get any of those sites working.
– Actiavated / Deactivated the plugins
– Used the repair tools
– looked into all my codes and fixed file endings such as empty space after ?> in php files
– Reassigned all sites
– Researched a lot in million of forumsAny hint, idea, glimps or full stack solution is highly appreciated.
Thanks, Chris

ParticipantAdd a post/page using your already created CPT to profile needs to add a tab and to handle some conditionnals for allowed usres to see it.
Here some related topics where you can see how you could do it. Note that it doesn’t explain how to made a CPT and how to handle user access. But will easy to find on Codex or this forum.

Participantyou’ll have to check your settings conciensiously.
First, deactivate bbpress and BuddyPress. Launch WP alone, just in case of.Activate BuddyPress and review the settings. Each activated component should have his own page, without any content. Activate permalinks and use any option except “default”.
Sync BP and WP users in BP settings. As BP component you need at least Messages and i recommend you Extended Profiles for better UX.
Now go to dashboard > tools and repair BP. Back to front and see how BP works. Test messaging.
Activate bbPress and read here before starting to set it up.
After bbP settings, return to dashboard > Tools and repair the Forum
Cross finger that the sky doesn’t fall over your head. Buddy, you’re done ! 😉

Participanthi @scribbleben,
thought there is no theme who fit a project to 100%. It’s only a tool to show a project. And BuddyPress is only a plugin, which let you handle a user community in a certain way.
You don’t need a page builder. BP is fully dynamic and WP publishes posts like a champ, so you probably won’t need more than 2 or 3 pages over those effectivly required by BP.
You don’t need a framework theme if the project is for one client or if you use BP 2 times a year for other clients.
You don’t need a theme full of bells and whistles, but an utility tool which let your client earn money or live with his community, without spending tons of hours to learn how his bells plant is working or returning to university to doctorate for a whistle diploma.
I would suggest use 2012 or 2015 during the period you build the project. Find an acceptable compromise between client desire, needed plugins and eventually some custom functions to add. Once that structure is built, you will incorporate it to a theme.
Your 4 points.
1) WordPress
2) BuddyPress
3) BuddyPress
4) WordPress and BuddyPressSo i’ve probably resumed your needs or even what you already did.
Which theme is the closest ? Almost any, but with 30 000 themes under the hand, it’s not an answer.
The important thing to know would be your client’s opinion about internet, web sites, ergonomy, personnal surf interrests. Equally, the specifics about hosting, bandwith, maintenance budget, supported device, target usage, and a few other little details which you haven’t listed
yet.Is this your first BuddyPress experience ?
If so, perhaps visiting some BP sites online will help you to come nearer about what can be done – independantly of any layout consideration in a first step.See Your BuddyPress forum
or my own showcases here and here (french, european and word site examples).March 29, 2015 at 6:05 pm #236885danbp

ParticipantI’m wondering if you set up BP pages correctly. (also because your previous questions on this forum)
your-site/activity/
your-site/groups/
your-site/members/
your-site/forums/are not existing and /page/ in above urls are always removed, without 404 error.
Do you use specific rewrite rules ? Maybe control All in one SEO settings and theme settings

ParticipantThat’s bbPress not BuddyPress, different plugins, different templates.
iirc you need to look in bbpress/templates/default/bbpress
But asking on the appropriate forum will probably get better results.

ParticipantI guess you have to fetch the activity type and the content first.
You probably can find some snippets which will guide you by using a forum search.

Participant@planetearthlings
Have you considered pitching your idea on Shark Tank? The reality is that you will not find the best developers unless you have the cash to pay them and though you think this is so important that it will change the world which is a very bold statement the harsh reality is that it will not and no one will remember it even 5 years from now. The reality is you need to set a realistic goal because neither you or myself will do anything groundbreaking that will change the world using BuddyPress because everyone knows when it comes to software you need to have something proprietary like the BIG social networks. Anyway sorry if you don’t agree but I’ve seen so many people come on this forum thinking they are going to create the next BIG world changing social network using BuddyPress when the reality is that is never what BuddyPress was ever intended for. Please don’t take offense to this reply as it is just intended to inform you of the obstacles you will face and the limitations you will find if you truly believe you can change the world using a BP site. Not only that but kids play enough games as is and connect with others all over the world using gaming systems already and all this inspires is for the kids to live at their parents homes until they are 40 years old and never have any real ambition but that is just from what I have seen in real life experience. Good luck!March 26, 2015 at 5:03 pm #236679In reply to: Change group role capabilities

danbp
ParticipantThere is no pre-built solution. But you can do this manually, from the dashboard. Copy the activity content to a topic answer and delete the initial activity.
If you use group forums, a good solution would be to remove the what’s new form from the group template. A radical way to avoid confusion. Of course, not usefull in all case.
A group status/update is stored in bp_activity table
A topic is stored in wp_post table, both with meta registering. In brief, these tables haven’t the same structure and the value is not handled by the same script. To explain why it is not on hand actually. If you have only a few such incident, it will not be difficult to do. If this happens many times a day, it becames fastidious. Educate your user and be patient. 😉

ParticipantThank you again for helping me. Ran into an obstacle. I am at the step of installing Group & Sitewide Forums. No. 7 of the instruction has me stuck. I stopped after adding the Forums page with the code in it to, to the menu. There is a picture to the right of the instruction depicting how step 7 should go, but I don’t ever see that screen when I try to do step 7. I even tried adding a new page called Group Forums and I don’t even see the option to change from ‘forum’ to ‘category’. See instructions below
Create a new Forum as the “parent forum” for all of your Group Forums.
• Go to Forums > Add New
• Add Title, e.g. Group Forums
• Change Forum Attribute Type from “Forum” to “Category”March 23, 2015 at 12:34 pm #236420In reply to: How to Post in this Forum?

IHaveToDoThis
ParticipantHey Everyone,
I still haven’t found out how to save edits in chrome inspector or how to customize my wall more…BUT I did find out how to do what was most important to me, which is change the text ‘Site-Wide Activity’ on the activity stream page. I found the solution here on a forum through a google search. Unfortunately I was on a work computer and left before copying the link and now of course I can’t find that forum anymore. Thank god I wrote it down!
Anywho, you find it in: wp-content>plugins>buddypress>bp-activity/bp-activity-loader.php and its toward the top the in $GLOBAL array.
Thanks to the stranger who found this!
And any help on how to design or what files to mess with to play the design of the activity stream is greatly appreciated!
March 23, 2015 at 6:34 am #236411In reply to: how to make buddypress private
IHaveToDoThis
ParticipantHey,
I’m pretty new to BP myself, started my site about two weeks ago. I use the Absolute Privacy plugin. You can lockdown the complete site or include a members area. What’s great about this plugin is that you can put the page ID of pages that you still want to visible to logged out users. So, for example, while logged out my users can still access the registration page, our about page, a history page and our terms and service. Other than that all other pages clicked on send them to the login page or whichever page you designate.
Important note: You need a plugin that will show you the page ID numbers for your pages. There’s someway to find it on WP but no one on the forums explained it in a way I could understand. I use Reveal IDs. Really simple install and the IDs show up right on your pages panel. Overall the Absolute Privacy plugin was worth the double download.
I hope this helps. If not, I think I have the names of some the other plugins I used but didn’t work for me. Maybe they might for you. Anyways, good luck!

A single forum is declared as “forum”

ParticipantCreate first a bp-custom.php file and add it to the plugins directory.
Than add these snippet, which let you handle activities which may not be commented.
function browserco_activity_nocomment( $can_comment = true, $type = '' ) { if ( empty( $can_comment ) ) { return $can_comment; } // list of activities which can't be commented $cant_comment_types = array( 'new_forum_topic' => 1, 'new_forum_post' => 1, ); return ! isset( $cant_comment_types[ $type ] ); } add_filter( 'bp_activity_can_comment', 'browserco_activity_nocomment', 10, 2 );Some BP activity types
activity_comment
activity_update
last_activity
friendship_created
joined_group
new_blog_post
new_avatar
updated_profileNote that some plugins add their own activity types. To get activity type names, go to the DB and check the “type” column in _bp_activity table.

When I invite someone to a group and they accept then they can see it, but they should should just see it under groups -
