ParticipantStrange indeed. Troubleshooting …
== I tried to create a new subdomain site. ==
Where did you create this from – the dashboard or in front end (yoursite.com/blogs/create)?
Did you enable blog creation in Network Admin > Network Settings > Registration – with either “Logged in users may register new sites.” or “Both sites and user accounts can be registered.”?

ParticipantWelcome pack has this sort of functionality – first time a user logs in you can direct them to a specified page
October 26, 2011 at 8:36 pm #122323r-a-y
KeymasterYou could try putting your tutorial content in the /registration/activate.php template.
Because if the user activates their account, that will technically be the first time they are ready to explore your site. This will only be shown after the user activates their account and they will never see this again.
That should probably work for your needs.

r-a-y
KeymasterCheck your WP theme for a folder called “registration” and a file called “register.php” inside this folder.
If you don’t have this folder and file, copy it over from /plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/registration/. See if that fixes your problems.
If you have the register.php template, open it up and customize the layout; you’ll need a tiny bit of experience with HTML and CSS to do this.

ParticipantI’m using the latest version of wordpress and budypress 1.5.1 and also suffering from request for an activation key. What can I do about this issue. Cheers, Jack

ModeratorAssuming you are using the latest 1.5 BuddyPress I think you can just assign the page you’ve linked to registration as the home page by using reading settings. That’s a lot simpler method doesn’t require any copy and pasting.

ModeratorIf you want to allow people to register how you do this will vary depending on if you have multisite or not.
If you have multisite:
1. In your Network Admin dashboard, go to Settings
2. Under Allow new registrations select ‘Both sites and user accounts can be registered’.
3. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save Changes.Without:
1. Go to Settings > General
2. Next to Membership select ‘Anyone can register’.
3. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save Changes.October 24, 2011 at 2:45 am #123025In reply to: User registration activation keys not working

Memberi am not running multisite network but i want to do this tell me how can i do it
October 23, 2011 at 9:09 am #122889Paul Wong-Gibbs
KeymasterIf you’re running multisite (or want to switch to it), this is straightforward. Otherwise, it’s extremely complicated and I don’t think there’s a trivial solution.

MemberHello Boone, no I don’t use any plugin that might interfere with registration, it just does this thing of asking for a proper validation key, I will install it again and see if it works this time.

ParticipantI don’t know when it began, to be honest I never noticed it on the forums, for the first week of the site we didn’t use the forum, we were taking the time to populate the site with some posts etc before releasing it.
Following steps from creating a new user registration is not going to tell you anything as the problem is already there, users can’t change their username and they don’t display on forums etc as stated before.
I was just reminded by a friend an hours ago that we did use a function to allow upper case characters for users, I’ve been looking for exact code that I used but can’t just yet…. I’ll keep looking. I had forgotten about this as it was only in for a short while at the beginning. Although I can’t remember, it is possible some of the initial users registered during its inclusion.
Edit: I should note that there is only the 8 team members signed up on the site, its not fully live yet, so editing usernames via database wouldn’t be an issue if it would help?

MemberThis is the default page that new users are directed to to activate their account after registration. If they don’t use the link in the email to activate their account, they can go directly to this page and put in the code to activate their account.

@mercime
Participant1. Just to be sure we have a clean slate,
– if you’ve only revised activity/index.php, then upload a clean copy of activity/index.php from this page https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/tags/1.5.1/bp-themes/bp-default/activity/index.php
– If you’ve revised some other files already, deactivate BP Template pack plugin. Then delete the 6 folders transferred to your mammoth theme folder in server – activity, blogs, forums, groups, members, and registration. Then activate BP Template Pack and run Appearance > BP Compatibility again to the end. Fresh BP template pack folders will then be transferred to your mammoth theme folder.2. Open up mammoth theme’s header.php and Save As header-buddypress.php in mammoth theme folder. Open up header-buddypress.php and add the following at the very bottom of the file:
``3. Create a new file in your mammoth theme folder named sidebar-buddypress.php and add the following within:
``
4. Finally, you might want to tweak the default BP styles enqueued by BP Template Pack – check out some basic tweaks in this page
