Thanks Mercime,
I downloaded the zip files and extracted them via cpanel from hostgator. Same problem, I even installed BP MU with wp 3.0 on another domain and account to test it and same outcome. It is not picking up the Twnety Ten Theme but everything else works. I am using my reseller account, I don’t know if that would be an issue. Also I noticed my “.htacccess” file (i think i pronounced it right) was burried in BB Press. (that’s where I added step 3 in copying the rewrite files). I don’t know if that has anything to do with it? Also it was set up with fantastico for wordpress 2.9.2 then I changed it to 3.0.
Hi yesterday i was trying the installation of your awesome community everything so far was working perfect i tweak my template to make it compatible and test it everything was perfect except that when i went to my posts the posttabs were not working anymore
so i disable them and reactivated them but still nothing so i try deleted them and it didnt work.
So if anyone has the solution please let me know i would like to use this community on my site since is very simple and ease to custom at my needs.
Here is the plugin im using : http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/posttabs/
Best regards,
Hi @jeffsayre from trawling round the forums and trac tickets looking for information on this you seem to be somewhat of an expert so I’m hoping you can help me
Basically in my installation of wordpress 3.0 and Buddypress 1.2.5.2, with social theme, the .alt class is not recognised. When I use it in css it shows up in the stylesheet, but the actual element refuses to take it on board:
http://www.footybible.com/groups/coaching-fitness/forum/topic/test/
I’m pretty sure it is nothing I’ve done because the problem also exists when I switch to social parent theme, to which i’ve made very few changes. It is obviously something to do with the theme, however, because I can use it when I switch to default. Yet other people have told me they use .alt in social with the same version of BP and WP with no problems!
Do you have any ideas?
Hope he doesn’t say that. I’ve no love for them but the whole nature of the GPL as applied to projects is a contentious and far from clear area, and debates rumble on for ever and a day over the letter of the license.
Compares sites like wpmu dev to drug dealers
Though also cleared up somethings I wasn’t sure about when it comes to GPL, think this will be helpful to others so im sharing
Okay I fixed it this morning, feeling relieved and dumb.
I went back over the changing directory readme:
https://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress
And realised that I still had multisite enabled (which I dont want to use). The bottom of the page mentioned thas it doesn’t work with directory switches such as this, so I took away the line (define ( ‘BP_ENABLE_MULTIBLOG’, true )
in the wp_config file and everything works fine now.
It had nothing to do with htaccess.
/phew!
Oh, and here is a look at the site so far for anybody who’s interested: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XuxSZsbT100
1. Everything on the admin bar is not working.
No profiles for any members, it just goes back to the members list, the URL changes but it does not display/
same thing happens when you click on edit profile
2. When you login from the homepage. The enter username and password fields do not change to the logout button, but once you click on “activity” or “members” it shows that you are logged in
This is running on a yahoo small business hosting plan. Installed wordpress from their custom admin page.
and installed plugins from the WP-admin page
Can someone help me with this?
@afritech, No problemo
WPTouch improves teh look over the other plugin, but still not 100% solution: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wptouch/
Hi guys,
Did you manage to figure things out? I just lost my wordpress admin bar and my BuddyPress Sliding Login Panel ( a plugin) after rebooting my computer.
Jimmy
I’ve decided to install Buddypress as a separate user installation using WPMU.
After removing Buddypress from the current user I’m not loading my most recent post as home page.
I’m getting page not found and the lookup for the domain is automatically looking for the removed Buddypress Activity page.
How do I stop the lookup and get back to the default WordPress home page?
@joamos the best thing is to isolate the image upload problem first. Deactivate BuddyPress and other BP plugins. If image upload process does not work in WordPress, it won’t work in BuddyPress.
So upload images to posts in main blog and sub-blogs with BP deactivated and see if media appears in main blog and in sub-blogs. If it doesn’t work, check out this thread – https://wordpress.org/support/topic/164999?replies=1 or find resolution in https://wordpress.org/support/
All you need is a SSL cert and then you can secure your entire WordPress install. BuddyPress should inherit the SSL settings from WordPress.
There is no bbPress admin panel when using bbPress for BuddyPress.
First of all, I should let you know that BuddyPress is not a forum script, it’s a social networking plugin. If you’re expecting a forum, then you might want to use something else like Simple:Press.
Forums in BuddyPress follows a concept called “Groups“. You need to create a group to create a discussion forum. This is similar to how Facebook’s fan pages operate. Administration settings for forums are handled by group administrators and moderators.
The second thing you need to do is login to the WordPress dashboard, navigate to “BuddyPress > Forums setup” and setup forums.
Now you can create a group and enable a discussion forum.

The BP team here needs to write a codex article for people new to BuddyPress, so thanks for reminding us.
A thought occurred to me the other day as I was interacting with a client over their secure message gateway. Couldn’t Buddypress do something very similar?
-Buddypress behind an SSL
-Create an invite to the site and send email to soon to be new user
-New user registers with the site and is able to view forum post or PM securely behind the SSL and WordPress auth.
I guess you’d have to send a PM to a non-registered user, inviting them join the site and tell them they have a message waiting for them. Click the secure link, create account, login, and view PM, at which point the conversation happens on the site. Once the new user replies, a notification is sent to the author stating the new user has responded and to click the link to view the message.
Anyone every thought about or seen something similar?
From the point you deleted BuddyPress plugins, themes, and database tables, it’s all WordPress now. If something’s wrong with your WP Theme, reupload your backup of WP themes, that’s all there is to it.
Hi everyone:
I just exported a WordPress 3.0 database using mysqldump. I used the command:
mysqldump –add-drop-table -h db01.example.net -u dbocodex -p dbwp > backup.sql
I imported using:
mysql -h db01.example.net -u dbocodex -p dbwp < backup.sql
I checked the db tables and all looks to have been imported fine. I ran a SQL Update on the Options table and on the posts table to change the guid and posts content to the new URL.
I’m now getting a 403 Error Permission Denied. Not sure what that’s all about. Anyone have any ideas?
No Buddypress, same issue. I suppose I’ll check out the wordpress forums, thank you!
@thelandman maybe build in something like this, https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/shockingly-big-ie6-warning/
I read about the plugin in one of my smashing mag books, somewhere.. But they really recommend it. It advises the user to try a different browser if they cant upgrade ie6 due to using windows 2000
At YouReach Media, we have a 24 week social media training program for realtors. We currently use wishlist, but are having all kinds of technical issues that are alienating our clients and causing huge customer service issues and having a nightmare with getting support for the plugin. There are clearly bugs in the software that are not getting resolved promptly.
Here’s what we need:
Each week, a group of agents need to be “upgraded” to the next membership level which gives them access to that week’s lesson and video (about 4 pages in WordPress)
We have two groups running simultaneously right now (and in future, will have more), so each group needs to be upgraded together
Need to be able to tag pages to specific membership levels so that our clients only get access to them once they reach the right membership level in the course
Needs to support multiple courses (with different membership levels) at the same time – right now, we have “Mobile Social Media” course, but we are looking to add out additional courses in the future.
Can BuddyPress handle this scenario? If so, any tips you can provide? If not, what other alternatives are out there that we can use? We’ve reached the end of our rope with Wishlist and want to find an alternative.
This not meant to be a double post but rather more detailed information that I found out last night. The problem has to do with any other user other then super admin that tries to create a blog from the front end.(super admin/admin work from backend posting blogs) Everything else seems to be working but I notice that when a user tries to create a blog, it goes to (a non template looking page) links are spread all around and stuff also missing picture box for theme. I noticed that all of those blogs are using “twenty ten” The BP MU main uses BP Default with out a problem. I also got the same error with (Broken Themes (Site Admin Only)….”bp-default” style sheet is missing.) I looked at the files and notice that there is not .css sheet in bp-default and I see other themes in my theme folder and all of them have the .css file ect. I think I know what to do but still unsure, but I am wondering why the bp-default works with the whole site. So I guess the problem is that the admin blogs from the front end does not know what stylesheet?
I loaded wp2.9.2 forst then upgraded it to 3.0 however unsure if I added buddypress before update or after. I also loaded buddypress from finding it on the plugin search within in wordpress. Other information is that at first I did the buddypress template pack tried it then uninstalled it, reinstalled it and now it is uninstalled. I tried about 5 hours last night and still same stuff.
Any suggestions would be great
Hello,
What if the admin wants to setup a Buddypress with WordPress mu which allows subscribers to setup blogs only after they have applied and the admin may allow or dis-allow.
Is this possible? What plugin widget to use?
Thank you in advance.
If you edit bp-default, when you upgrade buddypress you will lose work done on bp-default.
Twenty ten is the wordpress default theme.
