I’m using the Araas WordPress theme and just installed Buddypress. I’m a bit new to this but I thought would give it a try. In the upper left hand corner there is a “MYPN” button which acts like a home button and a log-in button. I’ve listed a link to my site as well.
http://www.islandofmisfitgraphics.com/mypntest/
I noticed on the Buddypress.org page there is also a “sign-up” button there. It seems that this button is key to getting new members to sign-up. How do I get that to show up on my site. I also would not mind if the “MYPN” button wen’t away but I’m not sure how to do that either.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
In the words of an excited person
Oh Yes! It works.
1. There were some lines in /user/editlib.php that needed to be commented out as well as in edit_form.php
2. Setting for user is “Student” and not the default “authenticated”
It is very exciting to know that students in August will be able to register in WordPress and immediately have access to the MediaWiki and Moodle … fantastic!

Hey there. I’ve got the latest version of WordPress and BuddyPress. I can’t figure out how to register as a new member. It just says, “To start connecting, please log in first.” Then it shows the user ID and password fields. But there’s no place to register as a new member. There is a log in button, but when I click it, it goes to the WordPress login page. Any suggestions? Thanks!
congratulations. The struggles paid off.
I attempted to install the W3TC plugin again today and I was suddenly getting the memory error again. I spent several hours discussing the issue with my server support rep and he was finally able to fix the issue! He never divulged exactly what he did to fix the problem, but I really didn’t care much anyways because the problem was obviously on their end and it was not the fault of the plugin. So I finally have W3TC up and running on my site!
WOO-HOO!!!
Now to figure out how to configure it properly…
So… It’s not really “update”, but more of a “Change” to the permalinks. I had them set for day and name already. I get this on any link or button that is clicked:
The requested URL /wordpress/activity/ was not found on this server. 404 error.
Maybe something installed incorrectly? It’s a fresh install.
I’m new to wordpress and buddypress. I’ve completed a fresh install of wordpress and buddypress on my site, here:
http://dravekx.dyndns.org/wordpress/
mod_rewrite is installed. None of the links work. The documentation for updating the permalinks after install is insufficient. Update to what? where? how? Can someone take a look and see what I’ve done wrong or suggest a fix for my problem? Thanks.
The version number is at 0.57.
Plugin checks are done every 12 hours (I believe).
You can always do a manual overwrite.
This works the same way as if you registered from within WordPress. If I remember correctly, WordPress purges unactivated sign-ups after a certain number of days, but I will need to research this to make sure.
Can you give me an example? Chances are this is for readabilities sake. There shouldn’t be any /extra/ spaces anywhere. The WordPress coding standards do ask us to put spaces in before and after such things as closing and opening brackets, after commas, and things like that. The BP code isn’t minified in anyway, and we’ll probably look into doing that for CSS and JS in future versions, but the PHP code will continue to stay the way it is.
My php error logs are showing the following after updating:
[30-Jun-2010 16:29:36] WordPress database error Table ‘db_name.bb-attachments’ doesn’t exist for query SELECT * FROM `bb-attachments` made by require_once, require, do_action, call_user_func_array, bp_forum_attachments_check_installed, W3_Db->query
[30-Jun-2010 16:29:36] WordPress database error You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ”ext’ ‘ext’ VARCHAR( 255 ) CHARACTER SET utf8 COLLATE utf8_general_ci NOT NULL ,’ at line 2 for query ALTER TABLE bb_attachments DEFAULT CHARACTER SET utf8 COLLATE utf8_general_ci,
CHANGE ‘ext’ ‘ext’ VARCHAR( 255 ) CHARACTER SET utf8 COLLATE utf8_general_ci NOT NULL ,

Disabling and re-enabling W3 Total Cache plugin, and enabling group forum extra, and the problem seems to be resolved. No more db errors.
Hi,
i’m using buddypress to create a light crm application.
I have a csv file exported from my offline crm software and it’s conformed to the custom fields that I’ve created in buddypress. With key values and everything.
Company information goes into the first field group and management info goes into the second group.
The problem, usually each company has more than one manager. So I need more than one management field group.
The question, can buddypress be adapted to provide more then extended field group that have the same field names?
For example
field group “Company” has the fieldnames companyname, address, telephone, ect.
The field group “Management” has the fieldnames firstname, name, email, gender, ect
a second field group “Management” has the fieldnames firstname, name, email, gender, ect
a third field group “Management” has the fieldnames firstname, name, email, gender, ect
wordpress version 9.2 and buddypress version 1.2.5
thank you for your help
“–notification when using @mention in wordpress side (blog, comments, etc.)”
@intimez i’d imagine easy to set that up – just reuse the notification/atmention functions and hook it into wp. – the comments already hook add_filter( ‘pre_comment_content’, ‘bp_activity_at_name_filter’ );
please add for topic
–notification when using @mention in wordpress side (blog, comments, etc.)
–wordpress type moderation in buddypress (blacklist, admin must approve, author previously approve, etc.)
–buddypress import/export backup
Simon –
Have you gotten a response to your post about – Catchable fatal error: Object of class WP_Error could not be converted to string in /web/sites/wordpressmu292/wp-includes/wp-db.php on line 488.
I’m having the same issue.
email notification sent to members and the title is messed up
site title = example’s test site
email sent = example & # 039;s test site
[wordpress3+buddypress1.2.5]
There is no problem.
1. Turn off everything (all plugins sites).
2. Delete bp-default and bp-sn-parent
3. Delete old buddypress
3. Install version 1.2.5. (Or 1.2.4 if you want it).
4. Install Buddypress Sitewide activity Widget plugins
5. Install BuddyPress Widget Theme 1.2.1 by modemlooper
6. Enable rest
See other plugins that are compatible with version 1.2.4. (Download the latest versions).
I have had:
– BuddyPress Group Documents
– BuddyPress Links
– BuddyPress Sitewide Featured Posts
– BuddyPress Album+
– BuddyPress Sitemap Generator
– Facestream
– FeedBurner FeedSmith
– FollowMe
– JR Favicon for WordPress
– Lightbox 2
– Post videos and photo galleries
– SPNbabble
– Tweetstream
– WP Google-buzz
I did upgrade to four sites with thousands of customers and have not had any problems.
Make it a battle plan that does not look anything changes from the old buddypress and everything goes well and is ok (you will not lose anything).
hey I looked in firefox and I see some css that looks like what you’re talking about, however, when I go in to my wordpress css file, I don’t see that code. Where is this BP css file normally located, I’ve looked everywhere.
Thanks for your help!!!

I just spoke to my server support again because I figured out that the PHP setting for memory_limit was set at 32M on their end and no amount of .htaccess hacking could bypass that. I politely asked if they could increase the limit for me to 128M and they wound up setting it at 256M! I’m so lucky to be working with a hosting company that’s willing to do that for a shared hosting cheapskate like me, lol. The company is Servage by the way in case any of you are interested. If you go to them because of me, be sure to use this referral link so I can get some free months and some extra space for referring ya! Hope I didn’t break any forum rules by posting that. Feel free to edit that out if it does. Anyways… I’m going to install W3TC again tomorrow and I’m betting that it’s going to work this time.
