I am new to WordPress and Buddypress. I have just set up my site: http://www.powellcounty.net and the “forums” tab doesn’t work. It was bringing up a “404 File not found” page so I created a new folder called “forums”. now it show an empty folder when the forums tab is clicked. I don’t see anywhere in my dashboard to do any configurations for forums other than re-installing bbpress. Am I missing something. Thanks.

@intimez Thank you for your reply. I’m currently using that plugin that @r-a-y created and it works great with my buddypress/group forums however I also have an external bbpress install so I can have a true forum for my website as well. It uses the same table as wordpress and buddypress and I have it fully integrated however it’s pulling through the Name field that is required in buddypress and using it as the post author. Since I have the usernames plugin enabled I would like the bbpress external forum to show the usernames instead of the Name.

I hope this helps explain my situation better.

Has anyone ever encountered there Buddypress looking to the latest WP post meta and appending that post title to the buddypress page title tags?
Also the activity items themselves look fine but when i go deeper and try to get more info from that item’s related post it only seems to see the latest WordPress post ID.

@mazen I’m planning to look at this as well. Just haven’t had time yet. My plan was to look at how this plugin does it: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-fb-autoconnect/ Hopefully that can be used to do the automatic login. I know there’s a paid plugin that does it so it’s possible.

    You see roadmap says:

    1.3

    * WordPress 3.0 support

No mention that 1.2.4 can run on WP 3.0

Ah so 1.2.4 was conceived as WP 3.0 ready, be good to know could possibly do with a little more detail in the roadmaps, or maybe there is and I just haven’t paid enough attention.

It’s a case of too much work for far too small a team! that will need to be addressed as BP grows exponentially

i believe 1.2.4.1 is wp3-ready and bp1.3 will come out after to take advantage of wp3 only features. (have to brush up on last week’s dev notes)

Make sure that your WordPress installation is working before adding BuddyPress. Your hosting package must meet these requirements at a minimum. Also, as rich! @ etiviti ( @nuprn1 ) states, you can learn a lot about potential install issues by checking your server’s log files.

@angelfire4xx you install buddypress plugins like normal wordpress plugins – in the wordpress plugins directory.

Also, I have never used this plugin but I believe its functionality was rolled into Invite-Anyone https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/invite-anyone/

Well the tickets for 1.3 are only 17% done and according to trac 1.2.5 is still a month away. So I’m just basing it on that. I’m not complaining either. Just saying… it looks like WP3 and BP1.3 are not going to “sync up” at all as far as release dates go.

Hi @urbanic, logging into a buddypress site is no different than logging into wordpress, so you can use any wordpress login widget you like. Start here:

Have bbPress 1.0.2, BuddyPress 1.2.4 and WordPress 3.0 beta running fine. Haven’t seen any problem yet.

Almost gonna do beta, so I’ll find out what problems will show up. :)

Not sure that 1.3 is that far off is it? not sure really, but I would hesitate running WP 3.0 and BP 1.2.4 on a production server.

It would be interesting to know what adjustments need to be made to enable BP to work with WP 3.0

Peter Anselmo’s Group Invite by Email sounds like what I need – Admin-only ability to invite anyone to join a group. I’d like to use Buddypress to power a forum for a training course, with one group for each module. So I would like to email the students and enable them to join each new group as they advance through the modules.

Has anyone tried to use this plugin? The download site doesn’t give installation instructions. I unzipped the files and put them in the Buddypress root directory but got an error message when I tried to install the plugin in the WordPress interface.

Well… I’m running WP3.0 beta and BP1.2.4 on a test site and have seen no issues whatsoever. But the official mention of “WordPress 3.0 compatibility” in the roadmap for BuddyPress 1.3 gives me pause. Given the pace of development of the two systems… there could be a very long time gap between WP3.0 and BP1.3. I’m guessing that BP1.3 is still many months away… while WordPress 3.0 could go release candidate any day now.

NO I would have thought that it isn’t ever safe to assume anything!

I have WP 3.0 beta 2 installed to test, haven’t yet run BP 1.2.4 on it yet to see what’s what but don’t really expect it to fully function, BP 1.3 is the version that has to be waited on for production sites and then I would wait a while for any teething issue to be sorted out – look at the recent 1.2.4 issues that had to be resolved with a point release some 12 hours after release.

I see that one of the items on the roadmap for BuddyPress 1.3 is WordPress 3.0 compatibility. But looking in trac BuddyPress 1.3 is 17% complete while WordPress 3.0 is 99% complete. Clearly WordPress 3.0 is going to be out before BuddyPress 1.3. Is it safe to assume than BuddyPress 1.2.x will be compatible with WordPress 3.0?

I deleted all other plugins and it still will not work. I try to add BuddyPress plugin and it begins with this message:
    Downloading install package from https://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/buddypress.1.2.4.1.zip.
    Unpacking the package.
    But nothing happens.

no problems here on various configs – disable all other wordpress plugins first? (maybe a conflict?) anything in the log files?

    #11938

I have tried the simple installation of adding the plugin in wordpress. However this does not work. I have also tried the manual download and install in the plugins folder. This also does not work. When manually uploading to ftp buddypress will appear in the wordpress plugins area, but when I try to activate I get:

Error 500 – Internal server error
An internal server error has occured!
    Please try again later.

I have been tring to install this for three days using both wordpress and wordpress mu neither of these help the problem.

    What is up with BuddyPress?

    Dear Buddypress enthusiasts,

Before I write down my question, I must say that it is so much fun to work with buddypress and wordpress. It;s so much a puzzle, but so fun if you crack it.

Ok my question, I installed a new premium template from WPZOOM and now I’m into the modification fase. I installed the BP template pack, but what I can’t find anywhere is the nifty login-in widget that I find on the sidebars of all the other BP sites.

Do i have to make a new widget for this, or can I download it somewhere?

Also your experience with the Facebook login plugin, how does that work for you?

    My website: http://www.urbanicmatter.com
    Look forward hearing from you.

    Warm regards from the Netherlands.

    Cheers!

Good day, I am new to this site, but I come to seek a solution to the problem I have on my website, I recently created a site with wordpress and BuddyPress but my problem is that when I create a group reads as follows: no groups to show, when it is assumed that if there is a group.

    the question is ..

How I can do to reveal the group that I created on my website?

    (first post).
Hello, I am trying to integrate buddyPress into my existing wordPress theme. For the wordPress theme I have written many custom functions to get wordPress to do what I need it to. A lot of the functions that I had written are for displaying an

      of avatars for different situations.

I understand that bP does not store avatar info in the database, so my first instinct to write a mySql query is out the window. So how do I get avatars into a

      ?

The three situations that I require a list of avatars are:

      1. A list of avatars from the 10 authors that posted the most recent wordpress posts
      2. A list of avatars on a post page who have commented on the post.
      3. A list of avatars who have “liked” a comment

Are there functions already written for this, or will I have to write my own? If I have to write my own, any pointers?

      thanks

In the admin panel, I can only choose for English and Spannish. Is it possible to add languages? My default WordPress language is Dutch.
