I am in the process of trying out the BuddyPress Plugin. First impression is that it is an awesome plugin. But now I after problems installing in wordpress and how slow posting and navigating is on this site I am reconsidering. Is BuddyPress slow on smaller sites as well?

Is this even being supported any more? I can’t even DL it from here.
I did grab it from the WP site and install, but I’m having the same photo upload issues that others have mentioned. Is this something that’s being worked on? Will it be ready by the time 3.0 comes out?
If so, I have a feature request…instead of hardcoding the term “classifieds” everywhere, could we have the option in the admin panel config for the plugin to call them whatever we’d like?
Anyway, I really need a classifieds plugin for my site concept. If this one isn’t going anywhere, does anyone have any other suggestions? I tried “Another WordPress Classifieds Plugin” but the config screen for it wouldn’t work with my install of 3.0 beta for some reason. I’m going to be running 3.0 multisite + Buddypress if that matters in regard to what classifieds plugins will work. Oh, and I need to have the option to make classifieds viewable and usable by members only and free.
Thanks!
Topic: ‘Create account’ missing
I’m not new with WordPress but I am with buddypress.
on http://www.urbanicmatter.com you will find my test site so far. What I noticed is that on the right int only says Please Log In but there is no posibility to create a new account. Is it missing and did I do something wrong, or is it just a flip of a switch?
Thanks for your help!
Warm Regards
VictorHi. I am new here and have a small problem. I have just installed Buddypress over WordPress, as I want to create a social network for my True Ghost Stories site. However, although the installation seems to have gone okay, I am unsure where to start customising Buddypress to make it look like a social networking site. I used the default Buddypress theme, and here is the link:
http://trueghoststories.co.uk/wpmu
With the ending being wpmu, I was even unsure as to whether this is still the Wordpess Blog page showing instead of the Buddypress one. I mean, does the installation of Buddypress override the WordPress one? If this is still the WordPress one showing, then how on earth do I get to the Admin panel of Buddypress.
Thanks

having issues with friends joining. it created a user account that i can view in my dashboard (wordpress) but they can’t log in or post anything. i have groups turned off, could that be the issue? any ideas? i don’t really want groups on my page, plus i have enough other pages that the header/tab bar would be overwelmed. I just want my friends to be able to sign on, post on my wall (Front Door), post comments on my “blog” – nothing special.
i’m new to buddy press, been using wordpress a while and have some coding knowledge.
Hi,
I’ve searched the forum and haven’t found an answer to this – I have a long running WP standalone site (v2.9.2) with many regular/repeat visitors who comment every day. When I installed Buddypress on a dev version of my site, it seems that only comments made AFTER the install appear in the profile pages.
Is there a way to import existing user comments/info into Buddypress?
Thanks,
Vic
Topic: Auto Create Group
Is there somewhere a piece of php code that shows me how to create a group via php?
What I want is that as soon as someone uses in his text “#whatever” that #whatever turns in a link to a new group “whatever”.
I think that Twitter’s #’s then nicely align with BuddyPress groups. (and nice to use with rss feed groups fillings)
It will auto extend my groups and that other groups will be auto-filled with twitter rss feeds from #’s. It means that it can really fast become a copy of twitter

I can then use track of the #’s used in a specific group to show “related groups”
To limit this a bit I could set it so that only #’s from some prime groups create new groups and NOT that #’s from #’s create new groups.
Hmmm… i think i need to write a plugin for it
(i think that # in twitter = tag page in wordpress = group in buddypress) (unfortunately tag pages in wordpress do not allow conversations unless on specific posts, maybe with some tweaking of the p2 theme it can) (but groups are nicer).
(a next step is look for related #’s / tags in delicious/stumbleupon etc… to find a nice set of related tags/groups)
{what Im trying to achieve is replace my related tags code in my private weblog with a buddypress followup see e.g.: http://edward.de.leau.net/about/wordpress for each tag i display the related tags, for some tags I have created a special layout e.g. http://edward.de.leau.net/about/music what is a next step is to add some conversations and buddy press groups would be cool to somehow mix into that posts with a custom sidebar and heading)
My purpose with this file it to change the phrases like “%s posted on the forum topic %s in the group %s:” to my own chosen phrases like “%s posted RE:%s in %s:” in the Activity Stream. I’ve followed these steps: http://codex.buddypress.org/how-to-guides/customizing-labels-messages-and-urls/ to get to my final .mo file and it still does not alter the text in the activity stream.
i have WordPress MU 2.9.2 and BuddyPress 1.2.4.1
I’m currently testing on MAMP on OSX. Buddypress is working solid both here and on the live box.my .mo file is located in wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-languages/buddypress-pgs.mo
it was created using Poedit
my bp-custom.php is located in wp-content/plugins/ and contains:define( ‘BPLANG’, ‘pgs’ );
if ( file_exists( BP_PLUGIN_DIR . ‘/bp-languages/buddypress-‘ . BPLANG . ‘.mo’ ) ) {
load_textdomain( ‘buddypress’, BP_PLUGIN_DIR . ‘/bp-languages/buddypress-‘ . BPLANG . ‘.mo’ );
}Did i miss another step or a switch somewhere? Things aren’t overriding.
Also if anyone knows of a plugin or better method than this please advise. Thank You.
