how can i achieve the functionality like firstly with WordPress, user should be redirected to his/her profile after logging in. It is WORDPRESS, not WORDPRESS MU.
Secondly, after logging in whenever user clicks on HOME link, he should be redirected to his / her profile….

    Hello,

I understand that buddypress should work with WordPress 2.9.2 (not WordPressMU). I have installed BP however, when I go to register I don’t have wp-signup.php installed in my WordPress installation. I have seen this file in WordPressMU so I was wondering how I can get this to work without having to reinstall WordPress which is sadly not an option for me.

    thanks

Was your WordPress fully working before installing BuddyPress? e.g. posting a new blog post, adding a commenting, etc?

    Hello,

I just noticed I don’t need to have the MU installation of WordPress to run Buddypress anymore. So can I just switch from MU to the regular WordPress straight up or will my site loose any features?

    Thanks

have you got firebug? the way i had to try to solve the issue was painful, making one change at a time, but if you inspect the area around where the alt text is appearing you can see the paths where stuff is referring to.

for you i’m pretty sure that it is just a matter to change the path to the correct location. i.e. with MU is wp-content/blogs.dir/1/files, for the standalone it should be under miscellaneous settings and i had the full path to the upload folder (people normally keep it outside the WP installation) and the full url is blank for me.

i had to change the htaccess file because the rewrite gave me issues with the slash ‘/’. if i had it at the start it would duplicate it (i.e. mysite.com//wp-content/blogs.dir/1/files) and if i left it out it would modify the path completely (i.e mysite.com/blogs.dir/1/files). it seems that the upload worked in the second instance, but then the reference to the files is not displaying, whilst the first is breaking the upload as well.
hope this helps you, there is another thread discussing similar issues (https://buddypress.org/community/groups/miscellaneous/forum/topic/buddypress-and-wordpress-30/#post-48806)

@gian-ava, if you’re on a cheap shared-host then there’s a possibility that could slow your website down, a lot. With a sudden rise in users and activity on a shared-host your site is bound to take a lot of strain, because of the limited resources that is dedicated to your site from your hosting company.

There is always a possibility of your site being hacked. I’m not too sure how likely this is otherwise it would be a widespread issue across buddypress.org.

For the unusual characters, I would set the encoding of your WordPress to Unicode(UTF8),
    1. Make sure you are logged in as admin
    2. In the admin dashboard, go to Settings > Reading
    3. In the text box next to “Encoding for pages and feeds” insert “UTF-8” without the exclamation marks.

Hi, I’m new here. Any updates on this? How do I put this on the default template? I’ve tried using the codes above on the index but it won’t show up. Thanks

I’m running WordPress 2.9.2 and BuddyPress 1.2.2.1 by the way.

    Hi There,

After doing this it appears as an unactivated plugin and when I try to activate it I get the following fatal error:

Fatal error: Class bp_core_members_widget: Cannot inherit from undefined class wp_widget in /homepages/18/d281354426/htdocs/Group/Congrex.org.uk/biddemo/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-core/bp-core-widgets.php on line 13

I’m new to WordPress and buddypress so its probably something stupis I’m doing….please help!!!

Basically, use version 0.1.7 from the WordPress plugin repo. It works properly, is reasonably reliable, and it will update properly at the next release.

Do not use the 0.1.8 beta, because it doesn’t use the new file storage scheme and we’re not writing an updater for 0.1.8 because you’re not supposed to be using it on an actual site.

We should have another official release out in a week or two that adds everything you see in the 0.1.8 beta and a much more.

    Thanks!

WP does generate a virtual robots.txt file, but I’m not sure if you can count BP in the mix as I’m not quite sure if BP does anything to it.

Try using this plugin to manage WP’s virtual robots.txt:

    Hi there,

Does anybody know why my activity page is loading all wacky? Here is the link: http://0308ed3.netsolhost.com/WordPress/activity/

If you visit http://0308ed3.netsolhost.com/WordPress/ , you’ll notice all of the other pages load fine.

Can anybody help me without having me to delete & reinstall buddypress files or themes? (I’ve been working on changing the theme style).

    Thanks so much

Hi ipstenu, I have used https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-restrict-group-creation/ in an install with community similar to what you posted above with success :-)

@novicer – Try using the BP Template Pack plugin with your WP theme:

Will buddypress work with the thesis theme in wordpress? I am currently getting the following message…BuddyPress is ready. You’ll need to activate a BuddyPress compatible theme to take advantage of all of the features. We’ve bundled a default theme, but you can always install some other compatible themes or upgrade your existing WordPress theme. Does this mean that thesis theme is not compatible? because I am assuming that if it was, buddypress would recognize that I already have the theme installed and would not state the first direction in the first sentence. The buddypress icons like login, logout, and selections of groups etc… can be seen on my site but are not functional.

Im using buddypress 1.2.3 and wordpress 2.9.2

Im using gigya plugin, and it doesnt record the email of a user when it login using faceebook, or similars. So the comments made in the blog appears in the activity stream appeares like it was done only by one user.

So in the file bp-blogs.php in the function bp_blogs_record_comment I want to change how they get the user. Currently is like this:

/* Get the user_id from the author email. */
    $user = get_user_by_email( $comment->comment_author_email );
    $user_id = (int)$user->ID;

So how could I make it to get the user in a different way?

Thanks for your feedback @mercime. I checked the default’s theme header, lines 73-77, and it points to “Blogs” not “Blog” singular. Clicking on the Blogs menu link shows me the blogs in the network — not the latest posts.

I’m open to doing it the way buddypress.org does, but I can’t seem to get both /blog (“latest posts” page) and a custom homepage to work hand-in-hand. I have a feeling it’s something simple I don’t have configured properly. When I previously installed wpmu with sub-directories I was getting the following URL http://example.com/blog/2010/04/26/hello-world/ … going to /blog would redirect to the site’s front page.

Disclaimer: I’m new to wpmu and buddypress, though I do have experience with single wordpress installs.

I would like to know this one too.

If you search wordpress plugins you can find the inbox stats.
    https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/inbox-widget/

What I’m looking for is the “stats” plugin or modification I can use like the one on this site too.

I’ve tried the installation a few times on WAMP, MAMP and multiple installations on the same server … It should be important to note that THIS site bp.org has the same avatar uploading issues with this new template/release.

This is my htaccess file, which makes the avatar cropper work, but I still get the upload error after :
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /
    RewriteRule ^index.php$ – [L]

    # uploaded files
    RewriteRule ^files/(.+) wp-includes/ms-files.php?file=$1 [L]

    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f [OR]
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -d
    RewriteRule ^ – [L]
    RewriteRule . index.php [L]
    # BEGIN WordPress

    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /
    RewriteRule ^index.php$ – [L]
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
    RewriteRule . /index.php [L]

    # END WordPress

WordPress loads the database from the setting in your Wp-config.php file. Once your new server or db is setup, just import a copy of your current db into it and update that config file.

I found this plugin called Simple Twitter Connect is a series of plugins that let you add any sort of Twitter functionality you like to a WordPress blog.
Maybe some guru can amend it for BP login

In part that depends on how big a BP install you’re going to have. I would read this: http://wpmu.org/dedicated-or-shared-hosting-for-wordpress-mu/

Basically you’d look at it the same way you’d look at a WPMU site. How much traffic, how many users, how many groups and forums etc etc.

I just used: registered users only 2
    https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/registered-users-only-2/

    Worked perfectly on activation.
Then went into my login.php and added the client’s logo to the login page – as Register plus didn’t seem to want to upload the logo for me.

@hnla VHOST is not required for wordpress but is required for wordpress mu/multisite in case you want them to function as subdomain.domain.
    @bstats
You should do two things and the problem should be solved.
    1. Check Mod_rewrite is enabled or not(as @travel-junkie has pointed). If you are on wamp 2.0, you can left click on the wamp icon(in the quick taskbar, the half cirecle icon)->Slect Apache(from the menu)->Apache Modules->rewrite_module(If it is not having a tick, click over that). Refresh the wordpress page and check is it working or not.
2.Once mod rewrite is checked you can try enabling/disabling permalink and resave it and Most probably it is going to work.

I’ve downloaded this great wordpress app for android phones and this could increase the user usage for BP on mobiles,if wordpress app has at least full bP cores features!
It could compete with FB app for android..lol

I hope they look into this because apps growth is increasing!

No, it’s not WordPress. Personally I use Xampp, so I’m not familiar with Wamp. Somewhere in your Wamp files there will be a file called http.conf. That’s the apache configuration file. There you can control what modules are being loaded by your test server. Look for that file, open it and then look for this line

    `#LoadModule rewrite_module modules/mod_rewrite.so`

    and remove the #

    Then restart Apache.

Sorry about the php.ini reference in the post before. Mixed that up…
