    Ahh okay, that’s what I thought! ;)

At the minute once the user logs in it redirects the to their profile page. How and where do i include that code so the home button disappears?

Those are two different questions. :) Login With Ajax would help with the redirect. https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/login-with-ajax/

As for the home button, in your header.php you just wrap is user logged in around Home. See https://wordpress.org/support/topic/367625?replies=5 for a bit more (and some oddities people are having with it…)

wow that’s really nice thanks! However, my problem is that I don’t see the “blogs” option in the menu, like the one they have here: https://s.w.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-quickpress/screenshot-1.jpg?r=234544

Yep, you’ve got it exactly right – in /wp-admin/post-new.php.

If you want to let your users post from within the front-end, take a look at https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-quickpress/. It hasn’t been updated in a long while so if it doesn’t work, hopefully someone else is aware of an alternate.

Thanks but I’ve gone through the whole thread already and even a few others and none of them fix the issue. I don’t think my case has been described there (i don’t think). The ‘Upload Image’ from the profile-change avatar page just goes dead – nowhere. It doesn’t even try to upload the image I point it to, no matter the size – there’s nothing in the expected folder locations and the perms have even been set to 777. I don’t get a bp or wp error page either. It’s just ‘page not found’ which is frustrating. I’m not a coder so I can’t tell how the calling function for that button operates. I’ve futzed around with the upload paths coded in bp-core-avatars (full url, trailing slash, etc.) and in the site settings in wordpress. I’ve tried nearly all of the mentioned ‘fixes’ in the post above but to no avail.

    Hey all,

I’m a total newbie here. I just set up a new site with WordPress and buddypress (NOT wordpress MU!).

I want my new users who sign up to be able to add posts to my existing blog. I don’t want them to create new blogs and having to manage them separately. I want them to add posts to my existing blog, in different categories maybe (optional).

Is it a user role issue? Right now I’m setting all my new users as “Author”. This should allow them to create new posts right? Where would they need to go to add a new post? In the admin panel?

    Thanks!

Hello, I have a problem that I hope someone here can help me out with.
I just installed the latest version of BuddyPress plugin over the latest version of WordPress, and was able to get everything up and running – with the major exception of the ability to create Groups. At first , whenever I clicked on the “Create Groups” button, it would lead to a blank screen. Now it just re-directs me to Yahoo Search Engine result page. I’ve checked everything, from making sure that Groups are enabled in settings, to checking the Permalinks, I even deleted and re-installed everything with the same results. I’m about at my wit’s end…….
Any help with this matter would be most appreciated!
    Thanks in advance!

Yes, I meant what techguy said. :) If the original OP{ was using extra plugins for BuddyPress that gathered and used information across the site/network/whatever, then *those* items may not work properly if he downgrades to single WP.

Because you know someone’s gonna have a BP install with every extra BP plugin out there installed, will downgrade from MU to WP, then come back here screaming that stuff broke. ;) I could also point to another thread where a user is wonder where the “recent siteiwde posts” widget is, but he’s running single WP not MU, so that’s why it doesn’t show up.

(tangent: some mu functions did get renamed in 3.0 but the current functions still exist. They are listed as deprecated though, so at some point plugins authors will need to catch up.

There’s also the fuzzy meaning of the word “features”. ;P )

And yes, waiting until 3.0 will make downgrading SO much easier…

There is some difference between WP 3.0 MultiSite and WPMU 2.9.2, but I don’t think any features are missing. I know some functions have been renamed (wpms versus wpmu) but for the most part, I thought @andrea_r meant what @techguy said.

@techguy – I’m aware of that. But andrea_r noted something different about some WPMU features (I’m guessing deprecated functions, unless I’m misinterpreting something).

    r-a-y,
WP 3.0 will have all the same sitewide features as MU. That is if in WP 3.0 you click the option to allow multiple blogs on the same install. However if you don’t turn that on, then WP 3.0 will act like a single install of WP. I think that’s what Andrea_r meant.

If you’re on WPMU and want to move to the standard WP, you should wait for WP 3.0 to make that transition. With the merging of the code bases, it should be easier.

Are you using the default permalinks? If so, please try changing them:

I kind of figured there was slim chance that I was the only person to ever encounter this and wonder about it… in fact I should have looked on trac first before I posted, because I just discovered xprofile_sync_wp_profile() and ticket #2315. I’m going to have to look closer at it when I get time because this seems to be exactly what I’m referring to.

    1 Upload bp-member-filter.php to the /wp-content/plugins/ directory
2 Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress
3 Add a form to your members/index.php or some other file (See: http://pastebin.com/bw0suXwe )

@andrea_r – can you elaborate on the sitewide features that WP 3.0 won’t have?

This is a longstanding issue with WP/WPMU/BP. I’m not sure why in 3.0 the existing profile page wasn’t discontinued in favour of something that doesn’t require access to admin and that would be trumped if a BP install was present.

While working on the registration page for a new BuddyPress enabled WPMS site, it occurs to me that the profile fields between the two systems don’t automatically integrate with eachother.

I didn’t see any other topics relating to this, so if I missed it, please feel free to direct me to those conversations! In the meantime though, it makes sense that this should be an inevitable feature for BuddyPress to work on – if we run a BuddyPress network with MS and allow members to have blogs, they are going to be faced with two seperate profile pages. The BuddyPress created one which defaults to just your name, and the WordPress one which has many more options such as web site, social networking links, and a short bio.

I’d love to see a future version that automatically pulled the WP fields into BP, and cross-populated them between the two systems so that members are not wondering why they have to fill in such information twice. Anybody agree?

“or will my site loose any features?”

If you have any extra plugins that pull in sitewide features from across blogs, you might.

Hi, after installing Buddypress on a single WP with a Buddypress supporting theme (came along in the budypress download) I was installing/setting up the Forums Setup. This couldn’t go automaticly, so it said:

“A configuration file could not be created. No problem, but you will need to save the text shown below into a file named bb-config.php in the root directory of your WordPress installation before you can start using the forum functionality.”

I didn’t know where to find this file (what is a root directory?) and my provider said it was the httpdoc folder. So I created a new php file with the text shown and uploaded it into that folder. Now, when I go to Forums setup it says:

“bbPress forum integration in BuddyPress has been set up correctly. If you are having problems you can re-install
NOTE: The forums directory will only work if your bbPress tables are in the same database as your WordPress tables. If you are not using an existing bbPress install you can ignore this message.”

Below this text there is nothing to see or do. IS this correct or not? Somewhere I need to setup the forums don’t I?

Any reply is welcome, the more the better. A Dummy like me needs that :-(

    Thanks

In WordPress 3.0 which will be released soon you can have blogs for users as well when using the multi-site options.

Buddypress works fine with WP 2.9.2. I am using both.
I am not sure I understand your problem.
Are you saying that you can’t sign in to the site?
    Can’t register?
How about posting a link to your site.
I don’t like the WP register/login screen so I use a login with Ajax plugin.

The only difference between WPMU and WPSA is that WPMU offers blogs to your users.

If you are on wordpress, yourposts/pages will have pretty permalinks, like yoursite.com/category/post-title-name instead of yoursite.com/?p=12433 etc.
It is better for you as will give you better SEO and for BP It is required.
Just change the permalinks from numeric to something else.
And as far as I remember, all your posts (previous link) will also function without any issue.

I just intalled BuddyPress in my WordPress blog. I got a message telling me that I must “update your permalink structure” . What kind of effect will this have on any posts that I have already made on my blog?
