    Hi everyone …

    i’m running bp 1.2.2.1 on wordpress 2.9.2 everything works fine (almost) but my site is in portuguese!

    being that i don’t want to wait for a bp translation i decided to update the theme i was running (the buddypress part) , by translating it direct from the php code of my child theme (don’t know any other way to do it)

    my problem now is that when i insert accent in words such as café or words with ç or ó or ã and such, it shows all crazy on the front end!

    for example- http://brasilcanadasite.ca/activity

    if you go to the drop down menu (sorry it’s all in portuguese) and you’re using firefox you’ll see a few question marks and if it’s on explorer you’ll see squares!

    I’ve googled it EVERYWHERE with no success, i’m not a total noob but this is killing me!

    thanks all!

    mm, I’m on a single wordpress install though. I’ll just make a fresh copy of my live site instead.

    edit – ok I found the album photos here – /public_html/mysite/wp-content/uploads/album

    and deleted everything in there, and dropped the tables you mentioned and disabled and enabled the plugin.

    Got the same error, but I uploaded my first photo and no error anymore.

    Pls add share button when user is in public mode setting by using tweetmeme

    http://help.tweetmeme.com/2009/04/06/tweetmeme-button/

    The Retweet button is for website and blog publishers that want to encourage their audience to retweet their content on twitter.

    We have made our button really smart, with one simple piece of JavaScript we can give you up to date tweet counts and shorten your title and link for the retweets. Best of all it will work on any web page, anywhere!

    If you are using WordPress please use our WordPress Plugin.

    The Code

    Copy and paste the following code where you want the button to be displayed.

    <script type=”text/javascript” src=”http://tweetmeme.com/i/scripts/button.js”></script&gt;

    Options

    When the URL is different from the current URL

    The button will automatically grab the URL of the page it is placed on. However if you want to place the button on more than one page or would like it in your feed, you will need to override the URL.

    <script type=”text/javascript”>

    tweetmeme_url = ‘http://yoururl.com&#8217;;

    </script>

    <script type=”text/javascript” src=”http://tweetmeme.com/i/scripts/button.js”></script&gt;

    Just replace http://yoururl.com with the URL of the page you want to retweet. The URL must be the final destination URL, not an alias, such as a link using a shortening service (eg. Bit.ly).

    Changing the size of the button – Compact Button

    The Compact Button

    We also offer a compact version of the TweetMeme button, with the same options as the larger button.

    <script type=”text/javascript”>

    tweetmeme_style = ‘compact’;

    </script>

    <script type=”text/javascript” src=”http://tweetmeme.com/i/scripts/button.js”></script&gt;

    For some common questions, take a look at our FAQ

    Changing the @username who is tweeted

    By default the retweet button will be in the format of “RT @tweetmeme <title> <link>”. You can, however change the button to retweet your user account. By specifying the ‘tweetmeme_source’ parameter in the JavaScript you can change the format to “RT @yourname <title> <link>”.

    <script type=”text/javascript”>

    tweetmeme_source = ‘tweetmeme’;

    </script>

    <script type=”text/javascript” src=”http://tweetmeme.com/i/scripts/button.js”></script&gt;

    The example above would retweet in the format of “RT @tweetmeme <title> <link>”.

    Changing the URL Shortener used

    We have also added the ability to use a URL shortener of your choice instead of our default one. If you would like to do this then you need to include the “tweetmeme_service” parameter as shown below:

    <script type=”text/javascript”>

    tweetmeme_service = ‘bit.ly’;

    </script>

    <script type=”text/javascript” src=”http://tweetmeme.com/i/scripts/button.js”></script&gt;

    Note: tweetmeme_service should be set to the name of the service you want to use. A list of services available and more information is on our URL Shortener page.

    BuddyPress 1.2.2.1

    Wordpress 2.9.2 (single blog, not MU) and am using

    BuddyPress Template Pack 1.0.2

    The probelm is that whilst I can access the generic pages all work correctly: –

    Activity: http://www.sitedomain.com/activity/

    Members: http://www.sitedomain.com/members/

    Groups: http://www.sitedomain.com/groups/

    Forums: http://www.sitedomain.com/forums/

    Register: http://www.sitedomain.com/register/

    Pages that relate to a specific user do not work. For example: –

    For user name ‘User Name’ the link is – http://www.sitedomain.com/members/user-name/activity/

    These pages simply redirect to the homepage.

    I have read somwhere that usernames that contain spaces can cause problems, but as I understand it this has been resoloved.

    Can anyone give me any pointers as to how to trouble shoot this, or suggestions as to the cause? Any and all help appreciated.

    Currently using the recent version of WordPress (2.9.2) and BuddyPress (1.2.2.1) and I’m working on using Buddy Press to develop a community that may not want their activity streams replied to on their activity streams. Is it possible to remove replies to all activity streams?

    I know you can remove them for forum posts and blog posts, but I would like to remove them entirely.

    To answer my own questions.

    Here is for adding the activity stream… https://codex.buddypress.org/developer-docs/custom-buddypress-loops/the-activity-stream-loop/

    And the members list is a widget, but if you want to select which members to show you can use this plugin… https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-featured-members-widget/installation/

    – I’ll definitely use BP Album+, but just as an album.

    – Gravity Forms seems like a sophisticated tool for generating forms and gathering user input, but the videos don’t show how to display that data in pages.

    – Pods CMS seems like it can do exactly what I want – create forms to gather detail and then create custom pages to display the data I gather. It’s powerful and flexible. I can get started using the pods demo video on wordpress.tv. I will have to learn PHP to really get the most out of it. I’m installing Pods now…

    I am continuing to work on my custom theme based on the BuddyPress Default 1.2.2.1 theme and I have been able to add customized widget page templates for the homepage based on Sarah Gooding’s tutorial on WPMU.org:

    http://wpmu.org/how-to-widgetize-a-page-post-header-or-any-other-template-in-wordpress/

    I assumed that since that worked like a charm that I could get an alternate sidebar working on certain pages, but I just can’t get it to work. No matter what I do with any custom page template, the default sidebar is always shown. What am I doing wrong?

    What php code should I use to call the alternate sidebar?

    Do I have to create a whole new [second version] of sidebar.php as in sidebar2.php or custom-sidebar.php?

    Here is one version of my custom-page template with the working top and bottom widget areas and the alternate sidebar that is displaying the default sidebar:

    <?php
    /*
    Template Name: Custom 2
    */
    ?>

    <?php get_header() ?>

    <div id="content">
    <div class="padder">

    <?php do_action( 'bp_before_blog_home' ) ?>

    <div class="page" id="blog-latest">

    <?php if ( !function_exists('dynamic_sidebar') || !dynamic_sidebar("widgetized-page-top-2") ) : ?>
    <?php endif; ?>
    <?php if ( have_posts() ) : ?>

    <?php while (have_posts()) : the_post(); ?>

    <?php do_action( 'bp_before_blog_post' ) ?>

    <div class="post" id="post-<?php the_ID(); ?>">
    <div class="author-box">
    <?php echo get_avatar( get_the_author_meta( 'user_email' ), '50' ); ?>
    <p><?php printf( __( 'by %s', 'buddypress' ), bp_core_get_userlink( $post->post_author ) ) ?></p>
    </div>
    <div class="post-content">
    <h2 class="posttitle"><a href="<?php the_permalink() ?>" rel="bookmark" title="<?php _e( 'Permanent Link to', 'buddypress' ) ?> <?php the_title_attribute(); ?>"><?php the_title(); ?></a></h2>

    <div class="entry">
    <?php the_content( __( 'Read the rest of this entry &rarr;', 'buddypress' ) ); ?>
    </div>

    <p class="postmetadata"><span class="tags"><?php the_tags( __( 'Tags: ', 'buddypress' ), ', ', '<br />'); ?></span> <span class="comments"><?php comments_popup_link( __( 'No Comments »', 'buddypress' ), __( '1 Comment »', 'buddypress' ), __( '% Comments »', 'buddypress' ) ); ?></span></p>
    </div>

    </div>

    <?php do_action( 'bp_after_blog_post' ) ?>

    <?php endwhile; ?>

    <div class="navigation">

    <div class="alignleft"><?php next_posts_link( __( '&larr; Previous Entries', 'buddypress' ) ) ?></div>
    <div class="alignright"><?php previous_posts_link( __( 'Next Entries &rarr;', 'buddypress' ) ) ?></div>

    </div>

    <?php else : ?>

    <h2 class="center"><?php _e( 'Not Found', 'buddypress' ) ?></h2>
    <p class="center"><?php _e( 'Sorry, but you are looking for something that isn\'t here.', 'buddypress' ) ?></p>

    <?php locate_template( array( 'searchform.php' ), true ) ?>

    <?php endif; ?>
    </div>

    <?php do_action( 'bp_after_blog_home' ) ?>
    <?php if ( !function_exists('dynamic_sidebar') || !dynamic_sidebar("widgetized-page-bottom-2") ) : ?>
    <?php endif; ?>

    </div><!-- .padder -->
    </div><!-- #content -->

    <?php if ( !function_exists('dynamic_sidebar') || !dynamic_sidebar("custom-sidebar") ) : ?>
    <?php endif; ?>

    <?php get_footer() ?>

    I’m not trying to take the easy way out here guys. I have been struggling with this and researching and trying different strategies for 2 days now. I would appreciate any guidance any of you could offer.

    Sincerely grateful,

    I have a few questions. FYI I’m decent at coding, but I’ve spent more time making games in java than making plugins for wordpress.

    I heard a few people talking about how you can change the way the plugin works while still being able to properly update it.

    How would one do this?

    I also have a few feature requests if the above isn’t possible because I don’t feel like changing the core code every time it’s updated otherwise I probably won’t update:

    1. Ability to change the name from ‘Album’ to anything you want and same with ‘My pictures’

    2. NVM this one can do it on my own

    In the current version of BP, the BP “pages” aren’t actually what WordPress calls “Pages.” In a future version, they will be, but that doesn’t help you now.

    Thanks for pointing me in the right direction guys,

    I solved the problem by allowing WordPress to automatically update the .htaccess file as per these instructions:

    https://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Permalinks#Automatically_updating_.htaccess

    Hi, not to hijack a thread.. but I have the exact same issue at livingwallart.com. I can view someone else’s profile but not my own.

    I did rename my wordpress admin user account. I tried renaming it back. I still have the same problem… however.. for some reason.. when I click on my profile name it shows up as http://www.livingwallart.com/members/gavin-walsh-2/ So instead of just gavin-walsh, it throws a 2 on the end.

    How could this be fixed?

    I have another problem that could possibly be related. When I go to http://www.livingwallart.com/register and try to register, it just reloads the page and no one is registered.

    I should add that I am using FastCGI for PHP and it’s the latest version of wordpress and buddypress.

    Thanks a lot!

    I’m on GoDaddy, using WordPress MU and BuddyPress, it’s working fine for me. I do have a dedicated IP with my Deluxe hosting account, have you look into the possibility that you may need a dedicated IP or to upgrade your regular hosting account? Check out my installation at LwEEs.com.

    Hi,

    I am now running WordPress 2.9.2 + BuddyPress 1.2.2 + BuddyPress template pack plugin. Integration seems good, except for one MAJOR glitch: I cannot write posts or pages from the back-end interface anymore!

    Is this intended – I doubt it – or am I doing something wrong?

    Thanks for any advice,

    Hector

    WordPress = CMS / blog

    BuddyPress = Community

    bbpress = Forum

    So yes, WordPress/BuddyPress is not yet a true forum like phpbb, which was just designed for the purpose.

    Hooray just got it to work! I just do not like the way topics are posted! At the moment all content from all the groups I have made go into one forum!! It would make so much more sense to have individual categoried forums!

    Just wondering what is the point of having groups? It would be great if post topics could be kept in group forums, all content relative to the group kept in that forum!

    It is difficult for people replying to post, when all content gets thrown together!!!! PHBBB really does look so much better!

    But there again I am supposing I am expecting to much! WordPress/ Buddypress is a blogging software, not a forum one!

    @tomstage you are just going into a wrong direction…

    1. You need to learn requirements to run WordPress.

    2. Linux is just another OS, just like Windows or Mac.

    3. Ask your web.config questions to your server provider, buddypress forum is not a place for questions regarding windows servers.

    And most importantly, read and follow the instructions here.

    Hi socialpreneur, so you mean standard wordpress install, then install bbpress, then add buddypress!

    That’s option 2. Try both, use the one you feel the most comfortable.

    If you have searched the forum, developers (from the navigation on top), and google you have two options:

    1. Install bbpress from the one click installer by BuddyPress

    2. Install bbpress alone and connect to BuddyPress

    You’ll have total freedom customizing the forum if you choose option 2, but thanks to the community, there’s a plugin for option 1 too.

    https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/forum-attachments-for-buddypress/

    Get a testing environment, try the both and explorer the bp world!! :)

    I did give buddypress a try, I thought this would be the ideal package to use. The problem I have with the forums in buddypress is, it does not have a forum layout. At the moment when I post topics it is does not flow very well! It would be easier if it was in the standard format, something like: Board name/ Categories/ Forums / Topics. This way all the topics could be kept much more neat.

    I have gone back to a standard wordpress layout, and I am simply going to link to a phpbb forum, that way all the post will be able to be kept in order.

    It would be great if there were an option to add a forum such as phpbb etc into buddypress, as I said I did give the buddypress forum a try, but topics could not made like standard forums!

    So this is a pretty huge issue I’m having,

    For the longest time I’ve had a maintenance plugin turned on so that no one can view my site unless they’re logged in. And there were a few times when I would turn it off to check out the registration page (in previous versions of BP) and it would work, I would see the registration page.

    So now, I’m about ready to launch the site, and I decided I’d turn of maintenance mode for a while and check out the registration page before I launch and it just takes me back to my homepage.

    I’ve deactivated every plugin except buddypress and it still refuses to work, I’ve even switched back to the original buddypress theme, and I’ve temporarily deleted my bp-custom.php file to see if there was an issue in there. It just refuses to go to the page.

    I’ve tried going to /wp-signup.php and then I can see in the URL it’s obviously redirecting to /register, and then it redirects back to /.

    Then for the heck of it, I decided I’d try and turn off buddypress (so it’s back to wordpress-mu). THEN it works, but obviously it’s just the simple wordpress-mu sign up page on /wp-signup.php

    So I’m completely stumped, I really would like some help on this.

    I haven’t edited anything in the buddypress core files. (and yes signup IS enabled in the admin)

    I’m using:

    Wordpress-Mu 2.9.2

    Buddypress- 1.2.2.1

    Thanks for any help I get.
