On next days i will try to make a plugin to add a banner/batch to users use outside buddypress and share your url.
I already have the code to do this on a single wordpress instalation, now is time to learning how to integrate on buddypress.
This will be my form of contribution to this comunity.
If someone can give me some tips about the plugin creation will be great.
The plugin will do this:
– Get the activity of the user
– Create a png image with site logo, a setence defined by site admin and the last user activity
– Display on a slug/page that banner with html/bbc code tags
My developer skills are very low/begginer, so dont rely on this plugin be done, I will try but I cant promisse anything.
I’m using self hosted single user WordPress 2.9.2. and Buddypress 1.2.1, and none of the RSS feeds update properly.
The feed updates once when it’s first subscribed to, then it updates about once a day, no matter how many times it’s refreshed, no matter how much the content changes.
All the feeds show the feed title, then right below it is the date and time WordPress was installed, followed by the feed details like Post Title, author, time, and content snippet.
It’s the date and time underneath the Feed title that baffles me… it never changes, shouldn’t that be when the feed was updated?
Everything else appears to work correctly with the site. For instance, the Activity page will update correctly, and all dates and times are pretty much where they should be, yet the RSS feed associated with the page just won’t update.
As a side note, I have a self hosted shoutbox plugin with an RSS feed, and that works perfectly. My thinking was that perhaps the whole UTC, GMT, Offset clock thing with my web server is somehow impacting things, but with the shoutbox feed working correctly… I’m stumped.
ANY thoughts or insight is appreciated, thank you.
Topic: BuddyPress Template Pack
(second try from someone that was just trying to do too many things at once, sorry)
I am trying to get my single user 2.9.2 wordpress theme work with your latest version of buddypress.
I am using the BuddyPress Template Pack and am at “stage 3”, “fixing alignment”.
I’ve identified the files that I need to edit from and edit to.
Now I “will need to change the HTML structure in the BuddyPress templates that I copied into my theme to match the structure in my page.php”
I know the instructions say “Make note of the HTML template structure of the file, specifically the <div> tags that surround the content and sidebar”, but I guess I am just too novice to really understand what is being talked about.
I have started by trying to edit the activity/index.php with what I think might be the right changes, uploading it back to the directory on line and reloading the page http://www.mywebsite.com/members/admin/activity/ to see if my changes have taken effect and so far they haven’t.
I guess this means one of two things:
1) my editing of the file isn’t right (highly likely)
or
2) this method will not show changes to the way the page is displayed until some other or all files are edited.
Could anyone please help me?
Topic: Buddypress emails deliverity
Hi all,
I want to ask if someone can point me on right direction to do this.
As you know when your buddypress site grow (or other social network software) you will face email delivery problems.
This because no ISP on the world allow you to send 5K+ emails per hour (unstead your are white listed). (the main problem is not sending the emails, is ISP’s like hotmail, aol, yahoo, google, accept to receive that volume).
So theres tree options (or more options, please share a way to do this):
Option 1:
Have multiple smtp ips, and wordpress/buddypress send by smtp auth for diferent things.
Like one address for notifications, other for registations, other for invites…
Option 2 (prefered) :
Have a “facebook” like emails (userx+string@yoursite.com)
Option 3: limit the maximum emails per hour to each ISP.
Anyone know how I can do something like mention above?
Thanks
Ps: Sorry about my English

Hi, am trying to follow the following directions as supplied here:
http://buddypress.org/forums/topic/faq-how-to-code-snippets-and-solutions
The theme and the profile back end don’t support this right now but there is a mod you can try.
Change line 11 which reads:
<?php if ( bp_field_has_data()) : ?>
To read:
<?php if ( bp_field_has_data() && bp_field_has_public_data()) : ?>
In /bp-themes/buddypress-member/profile/profile-loop.php
Then you will manually have to use phpmyadmin and go into the table bp_xprofile_fields and change all the profile field records that are parent fields and have ‘0’ in the column ‘is_public’ to ‘1’ for the fields you want to show on the profile and ‘0’ for the fields you don’t want to show.
Parent fields are the ones that have a ‘0’ in the ‘parent_id’ column.
However, there is no ‘is_public’ field in my latest copy of WordPress + BuddyPress…
I had WP 2.0.4 originally. Few days back, I upgraded it to WP 2.9.2. Everything was fine on my local machine.
Today,I decided to try BuddyPress as it is supposed to work on non-MU wordpress installations too from BP1.2 onwards. So I installed BP1.2.1 from wordpress admin and did automatic plugin install.
I had WP_DEBUG turned on in wp_config.php. Automatic Plugin install warned me that BuddyPress install is not verified with my version of WP (2.9.2). I had deactivated updates using “disable-wordpress-core-update” plugin as I saw some PHP warnings today. Anyway, automatic install completed and had created wp_bp_xyz tables in the database. However, apache error logs showed below errors:
[Sat Mar 06 03:01:18 2010] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] WordPress database error Table ‘wp.wp_bp_xprofile_data’ doesn’t exist for query SELECT value FROM … referer: http://localhost/wp/wp-admin/plugins.php

all the above tables were actually created. WordPress plugin installation script (plugins.php) seems to have triggered above errors. It is strange that it reported that “installation completed successfully”.
After activating the plugin, I am seeing below NOTICES :
Notice: Undefined offset: 0 in C:\web\xampp\htdocs\wp\wp-content\plugins\buddypress\bp-core\bp-core-catchuri.php on line 72

I could still access WP admin features in the middle of all these NOTICES. However, BuddyPress related links were allover the page. As my theme was not supported by BuddyPress, I decided to activate bp_template_pack. Now, I got essentially a WHITE screen along with following debug information. However, I could still access WP Admin pages and my theme retained its previous look and feel. Of course, this meant BuddyPress was not visible on my blog. I guess I have to add those links manually myself. I will look at the codex.buddypress and the default BuddyPress themes for further info.
What is bothering me is, all those PHP NOTICES. Disabling the DEBUG, makes them go away. My blog looks the same as before; My WP admin pages also look the same except for BuddyPress being enabled. I would like to take care of these Warnings.
Can somebody clarify what is going wrong here ? Are these something I should worry about ?
