Then, in each of 16 files, you’d like to change the BP Templates’ page title’s header tag from `

@marcacer Here’s a tutorial from Dennis Smolek to get you started for fields during group creation – https://codex.buddypress.org/developer-docs/how-to-edit-group-meta-tutorial/
or, if you can wait until after the group is created – https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-groups-extras/
@brainiacwebdesigns you need to go to Step 3 of the BP Compatibility process, fix alignment of the BP template files to mesh with your theme’s HTML structure.
Based on the HTML structure of your theme, you need to use the first option, i.e., change 16 template files within the 6 BP folders transferred to your canyon theme folder in server during the compatibility process.
If you’ve previously changed any of the BP template files in your theme folder in server, replace all of them for a clean slate by deleting the 6 BP folders – /activity, /blogs, /forums, /groups, /members, and /registration – then re-run Appearance > BP Compatibility.
Download the 6 clean BP folders to your computer hard drive.
A. At the top of each of those 16 template files I linked to above, replace
`
with
`
Then, in each of 16 files, you’d like to change the BP Templates’ page title’s header tag from `
` or `
` to `
`, just watch out when you do this in the /activity/index.php page.

Hello, im going to tell you a quick easy way to do step number 1.
Create a field called School or w.e you want to make it and make a drop down field of all the schools that you can think of.
I would also download buddyprress-better-directory ( it may not scale well with your theme depending on what theme you are using )
so now onto question number 2. As I said for your answer for number one, using the drop down menu for the schools will make it easier to search rather then having the members type in their school. as far as searching for UNC and University of North Carolina, Im sure the search would list all the UNC first, then list the University of North Carolina,
I would also suggest installing s2Members (plugin) and follow the steps to help make your buddypress/wordpress more secure,
@vuiet914
Best of Luck,
Ps, this is just a suggestion and it really isn’t a FULL answer to your questions.
The rewrite_module is working fine on my server. I used Greengeeks shared hosting and it runs all of my wordpress sites without error. Like I said, all of my regular buddypress pages work fine… it’s just the pages linked to on the buddybar.
Recommend that you log in at WPorg forums and post in plugin’s forums as enhancement request https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/bp-profile-video-widget
When I say private domain, I just mean not on the WordPress servers.
@Deleted User on post 7

Solved my problem.
I can ad that I had to disable and then enable the “Enable discussion forum” on each Group Setting logged in as Admin after following the steps in the above post.
Thx, for an amazing plugin / maintheme for WordPress.
Best regards, and a lot of happy thoughts from Copenhagen, Denmark.

Solved my problem with help from this thread
https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/this-group-does-not-have-a-forum-setup-yet-1/?topic_page=1&num=15
Post 7 from @Deleted User solved my problem.
1. Unchecking the forums component in the BuddyPress Component settings page.
2. Renaming bb-config.php in your WordPress installation root directory to something else (making BuddyPress believe that bbPress is not installed).
3. Re-checking the forums component in the BuddyPress Component settings page.
4. Re-installing the group forum component in the BuddyPress Settings “Forum” tab.
Hope this can help someone else as well, was really frustrating not being able to post anything.
I can ad, that on each group setting I had to uncheck and recheck the “enable forum”
I think have found the error, my host updated the version of php 5.3.5 to php 5.4.3.
What should I do? modify htaccess file or another or … ^^ ?
Thanks for all.
( An another member have solved the problem, but i can’t understand all the fixes if he have realised : link : https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/4191 )
Thank you @mercime! I’ll be more careful with the themes in the future.
I’m really worried when you said it might be hacked…I downloaded those three themes(iphoto/photum/graphictheme) from this website http://devstand.com/design/pinterest-wordpress-themes/ Is that a suspicious website?
I personally feel it’s more like a incompatible issue rather than a malicious attack because pinterest style theme seem to have some special feature for example showing more images when you drag down to the bottom of the page etc. but you are right…it shouldn’t touch the functions.php file of other themes…Anyway I don’t have any experience in dealing with hackers at all so maybe I’m just trying to comfort myself I’m not hacked…
== sbrajesh BP Multi Network … I am also running WP Multi-Network ==
I don’t believe those two are compatible. If you want to run WP MultiNetwork, then you should use the BuddyPress MultiNetwork plugin by wpmuguru and johnjamesjacoby – https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-multi-network/
@marilou check out https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/multisite-user-management/
Get some more tips from the Multisite forums – https://wordpress.org/support/forum/multisite
== I just uploaded 2 or 3 pinterest like themes and was testing them ==
1. Delete those themes. Before installing any theme in your live site, check it out first in a test installation using Exploit Scanner plugin, Theme Check plugin and Log Deprecated Notices plugin with WP_DEBUG true.
2. You may have been hacked. https://codex.wordpress.org/FAQ_My_site_was_hacked
No theme nor plugin should be adding anything in your themes’ functions.php file without your express permission.
Deactivate BuddyPress and BP/WP plugins and concentrate on getting your site clean.
3. https://codex.wordpress.org/Hardening_WordPress
Before activating BuddyPress, make sure your WP install is finally rid of issues.
For more assistance please post at https://wordpress.org/support/forum/how-to-and-troubleshooting
Here is the fix:
https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/changeset/6023
You’ll have to manually edit the files – should be easy as you don’t have to remove anything.
Just find the location in the files and add the ‘green’ areas.
@charlietech, @mercime, my new plugin is ready for your testing. do try it and let me know if it solves your purpose.
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-login-redirect/
@neononcon it does make me wonder, now that you mention it….although i suppose its because they have more people keeping an eye open for spammers? i simply don’t have the time to keep up with all the spammers. sigh. i don’t have anywhere near this size of a problem with this on my other sites, all wordpress…but then, they are not set up to be a community like this one buddypress site is. its never really taken off anyway so i’m seriously thinking its time to ditch buddypress…but then, i’ve put a lot of work into the theme and setting it all up so its very frustrating!!
== Confused as to what to do next! ==
Invite people to join the site via email and/or Invite Anyone Plugin https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/invite-anyone/
== how do I let members have their own blog with pictures/video ==
First, you need to create a network, i.e., make your WP into a multisite installation. If you need assistance in creating a network, log in and post at https://wordpress.org/support/forum/multisite
@mercime many thanks for info
will take a look.
There was a plugin called Google Maps Made Simple or wpgmappity from http://www.wordpresspluginfu.com/wpgmappity/
that allowed front-end posting (and configuration) of google maps.
It still works. There is an example of what it can do in the p2 theme (front-end posting) at http://www.rubyrvews.com/.
I’ll leave a test user account open for a week ( user: tester password: tester1 ) in case any potential developer might have a look, see it working, maybe insert a map and, perhaps explore if it can be ported to buddypress.
All i know is – it works on p2 front end and is reasonably intuitive to use.
though the login asks for email it accepts tester !
I have the same problem. All the main pages (groups, activity, forums, etc..) work fine, It’s just the “Buddybar” links under “My Account” like Profile, and such. This is a fresh install of WordPress and Buddypress with no plugins and using the default buddypress theme.
As far as I know rewite_modules are turned on – if they weren’t wouldn’t pretty permalinks not work at all? Although I’m still thinking it’s something with my host as buddypress works fine running on localhost with xampp..
Any idea what could be going on?
Could this maybe be buggering it up….? this WP/BP install is on my domain’s root, but I do have some subdomains running other wordpress installs (no buddypress).
Thanks for any advice.
@sushit
Check out JanRain’s plug in. It works great and you get other social network as well.
