I just reinstalled WordPress & Buddypress completely as I had problems with sending messages (see: http://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/error-in-messaging-system/)

With a fresh install I still encounter problems: When entering the first letter of a user in the ‘Send to’ field it doesnt find the specific member in the dropdown field (although it did when I created a friendship between the members). The autocomplete doesnt seem to fuction properly.

The layout of the dropdown box seems incorrect to me to. A lot of zebra styling appears in the box. Also when I enter the first letter of the user (B) the word ‘Blog’ appears?!

Please see this picture for clarification on the above: http://i542.photobucket.com/albums/gg408/bramvdveen/Messageerror.jpg

Any help is appreciated as I cant continue to work on my site without this essential feature!

    Dear Fellas,

I installed bbPress with Buddypress because I want to have forum for my Buddypress.
The Forum is there but when I post a new topic, it shows only this ‘Sorry, there were no forum topics found.’

Then I go to dashboard, forum settings, it says that bbpress is already installed, and this note
‘The forums directory will only work if your bbPress tables are in the same database as your WordPress tables. If you are not using an existing bbPress install you can ignore this message.’

I ask my hosting admin to move bbPress tables to same WordPress database tables, but nothing happens, still the same

    Could someone please help me?

    Many thanks in advance

    Best Regards,

    Danny

Are you using Apache on Windows or IIS on Windows? https://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Permalinks#Permalinks_without_mod_rewrite

When I install the buddypress template pack plugin and activate it my site gets broken doesnt work, then i deleted the files from the server for the plugin and then the site started working.

To make sure i installed it twice both times it didnot work so i had to delete the plugin, is there any way where by I could get the plugin to work.

Every single timestamp related to buddypress is off. Every one. When I post a status update, at first it says 0 seconds ago: then I refresh the page and it says 7 hours. My host and wordpress are correct time because comments have correct time. Should I go back to no 1.2.5.2?

If this is a bug and not a misconfiguration, a report when we were on 1.2.6 would have let us fix it for 1.2.7 ;)

I’m assuming, as you’ve said, that the WordPress timezone is set to your timezone. Do you know if your server itself is based in a different timezone from you? Are you also sure that it’s *every* timestamp? Post a blog, create a group, write in the activity stream — are they all showing the same time (give or take a few minutes), and are they all off? Or is it just one or two particular timestamps around the site?

Also, can you check if your server is running PHP5 or PHP4. If you’re not sure, ask your host.

I just installed wordpress and buddypress today, so everything is new :)

Just for a tester, I de-updated the plugin from 1.2.7, to 1.2.6, time still broken.

De-updated again to 1.2.5, and times are correct!

I have this problem also. I think it’s pretty poor of buddypress.

I tried setting the time zone in wordpress to New York, setting the time earlier so it set it to “5 hours”, realizing that, from LA, being 9 hours, maybe going further would solve it.

Setting to Moscow Russia I figured would fix the problem, but then it just says “sometime ago”

I NEED to have Times working, because everything is archived through time on my site, (cough cough, @djpaul 👿

I just updated and now I have this exact problem except mine is off my 5 hours. I live in New York, time zone in wordpress is set to New York.

    Anybody? mmhmmm……. not good..

There are lots of wordpress plugins that will do this. A simple to use that redirects by role is:
    https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/peters-login-redirect/

BTW, I switched to default theme, they are still off.

I just set up my wp network, so I have no plugins installed other than bp, and wordpress and bp-template pack.

Is this offset just for me, or for all users?

    @paul – uploaded avatar saved in /wp-content/uploads/avatars/signups
@mercime – wordpress working on signle site on root. (http://mysite.com)

    My .htaccess :
    # BEGIN WordPress

    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
    RewriteRule . index.php [L]

    # END WordPress

@hnla : my site is host on windows server. i was check permission for read/write for IIS user.
but i dont know whats going wrong….. :(

    waiting for your reply.

I am using Buddypress 1.2.7 and WordPress 3.04. Both latest versions you can get.

I am using custom theme, but that should not matter.

All of my timestamps on my site are 7 hours off. Every single one!

The problem is not being caused by timezone, because I set my wordpress time to Denver, and I live in Denver!

    Please help!!!! Please! :(

BuddyPress adds extended profiles and groups to a WordPress install. What you want is doable but it wouldn’t be out of the box. You’d have to do some customization.

I did some more digging on WordPress, and what I’m looking for is something like the “Comment Toolbar” plugin. It doesn’t work in buddypress though. :(

That would be perfect if it did.

I just subscribed and I need advice. I am looking to creat a site for a photography club in which users can share and show off pictures, both in a public and a private space. I want them to be able to hold internal compititions by voting for the ones they love the best and share their thoughts on these, as well as on other subjets. I need to know if either WordPress, Buddypress or both are capable of doing this. Also, although I never did it, I know that I can connect to WordPress with Lightroom 3. Can I do the same with Buddypress? Thank you for your answers… :-)

    Thanks for your advice.

Ive replaced ajax.php with the original version in:
    …l/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/_inc

    and functions.php in:
    …/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default

    and bp-messages.php in:
    …/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/buddypress

It didnt solve the problem :-(

    @hnla

I think you are referring to the Custom Profile Filters for BuddyPress plugin (https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/custom-profile-filters-for-buddypress/installation/)

I had this installed already and works perfectly in the members-loop. But it doesnt apply it to the bp_group_the_member loop

The automatic links still show up…

So this is where I’m getting stuck…

    === i need more serious response ===
@nahummadrid said it straight and clear, there’s no BuddyPress without WordPress. There’s no standalone BuddyPress. BuddyPress is a WordPress plugin.

@ganesi Buddypress is a plugin for a wordpress blog. Once activated on the wordpress blog, BP components/features/functionality will only fully work if you have a theme that is compatible with the Buddypress plugin.

The buddypress plugin comes with a default theme you can use. And that is a Buddypress default setup, I think that is what you might be refering to as “standalone” bp. its not really standalone, it’s a theme that comes with the BP plugin that you enable first then activate the BP plugin.

the buddypress plugin itself is a suite of “plugins” including the forums. Once you have a bp ready theme and buddypress plugin activated you can then activate the forums component(“bbpress plugin”) in the bp admin. once you have the forums activated you can then add additional features to your BP-forum by way of more Bp forum specific plugins. phew.

hope that helps, i kinda confused myself for a minute there. that’s a lot plugins on plugins crisscrossing there. :)

I am currently to embed a Kaltura media platform within my BuddyPress Blog; here is an example of what I am trying to achieve (http://cis.apsc.ubc.ca/chbe262/?page_id=51); but instead of doing it on WordPress, I am trying to embed Kaltura in BuddyPress.

Moreover, here are some requirements that might be useful to know:

    1. I would like to embed the Kaltura media platform that comes with video editing.
    2. I do have my own BuddyPress server.
    3. I will most likely be using BuddyPressCE, thought not 100%.

Could anyone please give me some insight into as to how I can proceed with this project.
    Thx

It means you’re using BP My Home plugin.

You only have to go to WordPress Backend / BuddyPress Menu / BPMH Manger submenu to display the list of available widgets. Then activate the ones you want to make available to users.
