Participantthanks for your answer shanebp.
i didn’t understand all you said but it lead me to the solution. so thank youi am a rookie so i didn’t know the basics on how to use buddy press with bbpress…
so maybe a rookie can find this helpfully
this is what i did.
i went to bbpress.
i created a forum called general public and another called vip sectionthen i went buddy press group section and i created a group called vip, here is the thing. the group doesn’t make a forum. you must make it firt. in this example i took the vip section forum.
this were my steps
1) in FORUM. i created:
*general public forum (the one everyone must be able to see and participate) has the standard settings
*vip section forum (the one only for the people of the vip group) has this settings: tipe: forum; State: Open; visibility: Private2) in GROUPS. i created a new group called VIP
this were the settings, Is a Hidden Group. and invitations can only be given by admins and moderators
in this way:
– when people is not logged in they can only see the general public forum.
– when they logging they can participate in the general public forum, they can see the private vip section forum but they cannot participated in it (i wanted that they would see it neither but this is how it works) in other words, they can see the group forum (vip section) but they cannot see what´s inside.
– when a member of the vip group logging they can see and participated in bouth forums.September 22, 2014 at 2:37 am #199331In reply to: Members List

ParticipantHello,
All of my past registrations were through bbpress. In that case would what you are telling me still work, would I need to change the registration to buddypress?
Thank you.September 21, 2014 at 5:03 pm #198964In reply to: BBpress post edit causes multiple activity entries.

ModeratorThis isn’t a bbPress issue, bbPress doesn’t currently import subscriptions from phpBB so bbPress has no way of knowing what topic or forum a user is subscribed to to be able to send them an email.
I’m pretty sure you’ll find this is BuddyPress sending them if you have it activated, per @halo-diehard same issue here, https://buddypress.org/support/topic/mass-notifications-of-old-mentions/
One of these days I’ll get to reading BuddyPress’ source code in it’s entirety but I haven’t as yet!
I think this should do the trick to stop things though:
remove_action( ‘bp_activity_sent_mention_email’, ‘bp_activity_at_message_notification’, 10, 5 );September 20, 2014 at 6:59 pm #198726In reply to: How to @ mention
danbp
Participant@imath published a little snippet who let you use BP 2.1 new @mention from within the bbpress editor.
https://gist.github.com/imath/5a3c4ac645ec765863f2bp-default is more or less outdated since BP 1.9 and you better have to activate a more recent theme.
If you prefer to play “old school”, verify that your bp-default is correctly setup.
Read also here about minifying css, as things can be broken around js in some case.September 18, 2014 at 7:37 pm #197876In reply to: [Resolved] Link not working in Buddypress
@mercime
Participant@yogeshojha11 I don’t see any redirection when you click on a Group link per my check. Nor do I see any forums installed at this point. Have you resolved this on your own then? If you do reactivate bbPress forums, change to one of WP default themes and deactivate all plugins except BuddyPress to ensure it’s not a theme/plugin conflict.

ParticipantHi there,
Digging a bit I found this topic that describes my problem as well.
Could you please inform me how to solve the issue with the time difference between bbpress and buddy press?
Buddypress: 2.0.3
Wordpress: 4.0
BBPress: 2.5.4
Theme: Twenty FourteenRegards

ParticipantHey Dan,
The number of emails is random.
I disabled buddypress and the emails still sent so I am pretty sure the issue is on the bbpress side. I thought I would check here to see if there was a known issue.
Here is a section of my email log. Random times and counts. No idea what is triggering these. Each message is a mention notification.

Participantforums are bbpress related.
Why a set of 14 mails and not of 15 or 20 ? What is this setting ? Do you use a plugin ? Can also be an old setting from an old and uninstalled plugin. See in wp_option table…
September 15, 2014 at 9:28 pm #197023Robkk
Participanti already did im just waiting for it to be approved right now.
and i did look here also https://codex.buddypress.org/developer/loops-reference/the-activity-stream-loop/
i think i need something like this to only show bbpress activity
[activity-stream object=bbpress]
and maybe add an exclude or a action but i dont know for sure
on action it says this on his website , i think that could help but i cant get it to work.
action(string):- action to filter on e.g. activity_update, new_forum_post, profile_updated(why this activity was created)
oh and i dont know how bbpress shortcodes could help??

Participantplugins I would recommend:
buddypress-activity-plus
This adds images/video/links to your activity wall, which is a facebook-ish function.
There is another plugin in the making which should be an improved version called BP-attachmentsGD-bbpress-attachments
Allows people to upload images to the forum, easier then the existing system. And ofcourse the facebook plugin.
These plugins and some playing around with my templates allowed me to make a facebook-ish site.
BBFacelookI also suggest to look into a theme called BuddyBoss, it is a change but this is a very facebook inspired theme.
Good luck

ParticipantLet’s be honest here. Bbpress is designed to be ok with most themes.
So yeah you are right, in absolute terms. A forum is just a grit. But if we go that route all of this is just 0 and 1’s. It’s not that productive to think like that imo 😉 Most people like to have something that looks better than ok for most themes.
https://devpress.com/?attachment_id=6504 is a theme that is just a regular forum but completely fine tuned to the theme. This is a rarity. Sadly. Some perspective on why this is I guess… https://devpress.com/tickets/social-buddypress-theme/
Standalone forums most of the time have themes, although indeed phpbb always looks very much like…phpbb 😀 BUT, it’s a standalone forum and therefore coherently themed throughout.

Participantyou seem to be affraid by the term “legacy”… ?
Read here some explanation about legacyLike BuddyPress, bbPress is only a plugin.
Generally when you need a theme, you search a theme for wordpress, not for a plugin.Of course some a better than other, or better tailored to do something than other, but in anyway, no theme can be perfect for anything.
And in some case, ready to use is not synonym of adaptable ready.
If you search forum themes, see first what other forum software have to propose. One of the most popular, phpbb, is desperatly identical from one site to another in 90% of case. When you have 1 000 of WP theme and you add a bbpress or a buddypress group forum, you have potentially 1 000 different forum look.
Basically it’s a grid, so it’s a bit difficult to present a forum in a very original maner. And finally too much work for many users or considered as out of rentability (100 hours to get a nice forum and 3 topics after 2 mounth….search the error ! )

ParticipantA guide to theming a bbpress install might be good, but I have not found one yet. Right now there is mostly legacy related stuff popping up. Somehow most theme dev’s don’t do much with the styling the forums either.

ParticipantHi durkk, thanks very much for the reply. I’m already using a theme meant bbpress and buddypress from Themeforest, it’s called Buddy. I’m generally happy with it and like how it looks (apart from what I mentioned above), I spent a lot of time getting it how I wanted so I’d be very reluctant to change themes. I’m hoping I can find plugins or some css I can drop in to help.
Good news about the ip names, didn’t think to check if it was just in admin view. 🙂

ParticipantFirst and foremost, I am not a buddypress expert, rather someone that went through the same process you are going through now.
The forum is not easy to customize without coding. There used to be themes for the standalone I believe but that’s all legacy stuff now. If you want to start ‘theming’ bbpress you’ll need to adjust the css to taste. Shortcodes won;t help you with this.
The easiest solution is buying a theme that has extensive bbpress tweaks. Do a search on Themeforest for ‘bbpress’ and or ‘buddypress’. There’s only a view that did extensive tweaks to the forums tho.
The IP address is only visible to Admins. As far as I am aware the @ mentions are based on the username, not the display name.

ParticipantThanks Henry. I’m not a developer and only know the basics I don’t think regular expressions is something I can really use. But I’ll check out plugins and post over in the bbpress forum. I get a bit confused about what to post there and here, though this might be a buddypress one as might be available in groups and other things across the site too.
I appreciate the response. 🙂

ModeratorHi @julia_b
To my knowledge there isn’t anything like that available. Try searching the WP Plugin Directory. Else, if you’re good with code, something like this can be accomplished using regular expressions
All of that said, forums questions are better asked over at bbPress. You may have more luck there.

ParticipantA few images of my latest updates to BBFacelook, did not have much time last few weeks so progress is slow.
In the meantime slowly getting more members to test the forums functionality. This is the new profile page now the default page when clicking a member’s link or avatar.

forum list is a little updated most important function is the topic title in the freshness column.

I have quite a few plugins installed, and some even hardcoded into my theme to lighten the code as much as possible.
Current plugins are:
. Invite anyone
. BBPress like button
. Buddypress activity plus
. easy sign-up
. GD BBpress attachements
. wp post filter
. bbpress
. buddypressPlugins that I have hardcoded are:
. Background For User Profile
. BuddyPress Group Customizer Lite
. TinyMCEAs soon as I have more work done I will make another update here.

ParticipantAll this is correct. The files is bbpress-bg_BG.mo and bbpress-bg_BG.po for bbpress and buddypress-bg_BG.mo and buddypress-bg_BG.po for buddyprerss. In wp-config – (‘WPLANG’, ‘bg_BG’) … site is in bulgarian.
And like I said, all is worked correctly (almost a year till now) before wordpress update.

Participantit should work !
Verify that your po/mo files are correctly using the _ underscore character not the – hyphen.
bbpress-ru_RU.moand set your site to the correct language, as actually he uses
<html class="no-js" lang="en-US">in the header !This should be made in wp-config
define('WPLANG', 'ru_RU');… if the site is in russian of course.September 8, 2014 at 9:02 am #190912In reply to: [Resolved] bbPress and BuddyPress translation

Participantverify that your translation files are in the correct directory.
For bbPress:
wp-content/languages/bbpress/bbp-xx_XX.mo (required)
wp-content/languages/bbpress/bbp-xx_XX.po (option)
where xx is your languageFor BuddyPress:
wp-content/languages/plugins/buddypress-xx_XX.mo (required)
wp-content/languages/plugins/buddypress-xx_XX.po (option)FYI: both plugins are shipped with a pot file containing the strings you can translate.
/plugin_name/languages/plugin_name.potDon’t put a translation in this folder, as it will be overwritten at each update.
