ParticipantHi @djpaul
Sorry, I forgot to mention this is not a multisite install. Just a single site, so no network to worry about. I’m tempted to download the old version 2.3 of bbPress and test that out tonight / tomorrow morning.May 5, 2013 at 1:52 pm #163450In reply to: [Resolved] can't activate bbPress 2.3

ParticipantAn aside – it may or may not be relevant to tweaking your plugin
I had previously experimented with other plugins
pagerestrict at https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/pagerestrict/ is effective BUT has no effect on /forums/ !!!!!
while
path access at https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/path-access/ is effective but just goes to a page not found -it lacks the elegant redirect!!

Thanks again for the feedback! I will see what I can do to lock down those pages as well.May 3, 2013 at 11:51 pm #163371In reply to: walled garden and bbpress

ParticipantWithout removal of comments (as per readme file ) —– no change for either of my pages 1) /forum-topics/ and 2) /forums/forum/group-forums/
When comments removed /forums/forum/group-forums/ is now protected and redirected (great! )
but the page /forum-topics/ (a page with [bbp-topic-index] in it ) is still available tonon-logged in users but all links on the page lead to the redirect (great! )and
while the page /forums/ is also available to non-logged in users all links on the page lead to the redirect (great! )
so, while its not 110% lock-down essentially, as far as I am concerned, you have done it. Thanks!

Hey thanks for spotting the bug. I just updated the plugin to 1.4 so read the readme.txt and install it to check and see if the added code takes care of the issue. Thanks!

Participant@chouf1 Thanks for your support!
So an update. When I set the affected User to ‘Subscriber’, they appear in the BuddyPress ‘Members’ widget with a ‘last_activity’ value appearing in the dbase (wp_usermeta table). However, changing them (back) to ‘Administrator’ they drop off the radar again.
We have 2 others with Admin role who are not affected in the same way.
So, anyone-else experienced anything like this?
Oh and @chouf1: WP3.5.1, BP 1.7.1, bbPress 2.3.1, BuddyPress Group-O-Matic Pro, 1.0.3 – 39 plugins in total, I’m not listing them all here.

It’s also written this:
Group Forums: BuddyPress Forums are retired. Use bbPress.

As @hnla already explained thoroughly and @mercime has bent over backwards to accommodate more than I would have given your demeanor, you still refuse to see this community is made up of volunteers and not discounting the need for better codex documentation on certain issues but the bottom line is there is lots of people that had to work their butts off and learn some degree of coding trying to figure it out and they gained more knowledge by doing so. Most of these volunteers have families and other obligations to tend too and your sense of entitlement for a priceless piece of software is very disrespectful to all the hard work these folks put in with no compensation especially with the comments:Respect is EARNED
&
While I’m new to Word Press, Buddy Press, bbPress I am a seasoned computer user, programmer, with over 30 years experienceWell let me tell you earning respect is mutual and condescending remarks like that will gain little resolve. I have maybe 5 months experience and I figured a lot of it out because I did my home work, and when I could not find the answer I needed I asked this wonderful community in a respectful manner for help and was welcomed with open arms! Demanding things from volunteers is not a proper way to approach a request for support so put your 30 years aside for a minute and humble yourself. Also there is no one stopping you from adding to the codex unless something has changed recently so you can start taking strides forward by contributing to the documentation in your spare time with no pressure. You can also contribute @anton-naydenoff if you choose to do so. Please keep your composure and don’t worry be happy! 🙂

ParticipantNot my business, but I was really confused with these bbPress <-> BuddyPress forums, too.
It’s not necessary to write that ‘Group Forums’ are some kind of a component of BP when they are actually not. It bears only unneeded confusion for users. ‘Group Forums’ are just an option to connect some group with a particular forum from all the forums in a site, but all forums are bbPress forums at the end. BP doesn’t have any forums in it!
I think you should better leave the settings for people to chose if they want their groups to have forums or not while they are creating these groups. That’s enough – no more explanations are needed then. To write articles about ‘Group-forums’are really confusing for all the newbies. ‘Group forums’ or whatever the name is, are another yet forum in bbPress parental for other forums.
This part with these shortcodes is another big mess too – people DON’T UNDERSTAND this – I’m 99,99% sure that I am not the only one who think this way.
Some details in BP are quite well explained (UNNECESSARY) while other ones (IMPORTANT ones) are totally ignored. There is almost none info for shortcodes for example – how they work, where to write them, how to make them work, lists of them, etc… 🙁May 2, 2013 at 11:37 pm #163290kraigg
ParticipantI spent a few hours creating a development version and testing, but I still can’t get it to hide private discussions from the activity stream.
Here is what I tried so far:
– Deactivated all plugins except BuddyPress and bbPress, to see whether it is a conflicting plugin issue
– Reverted back to default BuddyPress theme
– Set the group to public, then back to private againThe only strange thing I’ve found so far is when I go into the database. Inside the bp_activity table, the discussions from private groups all have “hide_sitewide” = 0. If I set hide_sitewide for these discussions to 1, the topic no longer appears in activity stream. But where does hide_sitewide originally get set?

ParticipantThanks Hugo, I tested it with all plugins deactivated except for BuddyPress and bbPress, and the problem persists. I’ll need to test it with the default theme as well, and possibly revert back to BuddyPress 1.6 to see if it still happens.
The only change I made recently was update to BuddyPress 1.7 and change from sitewide forums to group forms.
I’ll have another test and see what I can find. Thanks for putting me on the right path

James, are you now able to see the “Forum Setup” tab in Settings > BuddyPress? Was this part of the server problem or was it an issue with not having bbPress enabled?

Participantloads of 404s – I have no forum option so installed bbpress (currently deactivated)
I’m not sure what’s meant to be in there – but it looks like I have bits missing !April 29, 2013 at 9:38 pm #163027Anton Naydenoff
ParticipantNot sure what you mean. First of all, you wouldn’t have been able to select Group Forums page as the parent for all group forums if you didn’t create the page.
No, no… not ‘group-forums’ as a page. I have forum (type: category) named ‘group-forums’ and it is pointed to be the parental forum for all my group forums. I have a page with the same slug but I don’t know for what to use it. Think it is even meaningless…
The good news is that I resolved the problem with the installation of my group forums. It seems that my settings were good ones, but simply they didn’t work… I just did deactivate bbPress plugin and delete it. Then I did upload and install again and everything is just fine at now. I already have my forums in my groups. But this is a bit of strange, because I didn’t set anything new. It worked by itself. 😀

BP 1.7, bbPress 2.3. Any guidance really appreciated.
