Participant== if BuddyPress can be easily integrated into an existing membership site community of over 100 people ==
Curious since you mentioned Joomla, is your current installation a Joomla site with WordPress integrated for the blogging portion? Or are you referring to a WordPress install with 100 users? If it’s a WP install, then BP addition is not going to be a problem. The WP user would be recognized when he/she next logs in.September 13, 2011 at 1:57 pm #119972In reply to: Fatal Error when activating RC

KeymasterThe plugin folder must be called ‘buddypress’. Yours is called ‘1.5-rc-1’.

MemberSeems that JS is messed up on the wordpress admin interface, along with the issues above the editor doesn’t show content and I can’t switch between Visual and HTML view.
I’m using the default buddypress theme and I now have no other plugins active. I also reset the plugins (active_plugins field) in wp-options table and then only turned on buddypress. I have not customised core code.
Was previously running 3.2.1 and 1.2.9. I’ve upload/installed the plugin in various ways to make sure nothing went wrong.
Seems a JS issue to me? As if wordpress required functionality has been overwritten. The buddypress admin bar dropdowns work.
Is anyone else having this issues?

Express

MemberAlso… I just wanted to comment that it would be really nice if the documentation for Buddypress is more organized. Currently there is information about 1.5 mixed in with 1.2 and even earlier. Is it that difficult to separate major versions and keep it organized?
I came across an article in the codex talking about enqueued CSS, with lines of complex code including instructions to update a variable when changes are made to bust cache.
I am sitting here waiting for some answers without working any further on this project, thinking to myself WTF does enqueue stylesheet and bust cache mean, I cannot even get comprehensible answers googling them, and hoping that I did not waste numerous hours working on a pre-1.5 project powered by BP.
i do appreciate all the hard work put into BP, but just because it is open source doesn’t mean there is no need for any logic behind it. Obviously there is no expectation for serious projects to use it out-of-the-box with the default theme and default components, so in my opinion, it is essential to explain to your users what the next version means and what needs to done for a smooth transition. Instead of publishing several articles about an unreleased version, perhaps it would have been wiser to have done that instead. If I had the knowledge, I would have gladly offered that.
I really hope I don’t move to another platform as I love WP and really liked BP’s usability when doing my research.

ParticipantPersonal activity streams don’t seem to be working either if you are using the template pack.
PS: The personal activity streams on buddypress.org doesn’t seem to be working anymore either and all the old activity is completely wiped out.

Keymaster1. Please would you clarify what comments you were referring to? The activity stream? If so, we’ve done that in BuddyPress 1.5, due out real soon. Try it out — http://testbp.org/activity/

ParticipantFor anyone looking, use the most recent github version of bp-template-pack for getting your theme BP 1.5 compatible – https://github.com/boonebgorges/bp-template-pack. Be wary of jquery conflicts and note that you may need to use the old method of editing 13 files instead of the more graceful method mentioned in the instructions.

MemberAh, so there is such a function. Haha, I do see the appeal and usefulness, but in this case it’s linking some rather…odd words. I’ll look around and see what I can find.
Thank you again, you’ve been a great help!

Participant@tnd, you’re welcome. Actually, the links are one of the most “awesome” features of Buddypress. Let’s say that one of your family member’s plays the violin, where Buddypress has applied a “link” for “violin”. Guess what happens when that link is clicked? Buddypress searches your entire community for members who have that attribute and lists them for further perusal, friendship building, etc. It’s a “community” building feature. Saying that, there’s a way to tell Buddypress not to establish a link for a particular word/element, etc. For example, a phone number would be a silly element to have a link for, right?
Since I’m new to all of this, I cannot remember what the tags/punctuation is that one would surround the word with that you wouldn’t want Buddypress to provide a link for.

Participant@DJPaul, I went back to my profile and tried a several different combinations. This shows up when the field group has a multiselect box where an item has been selected then saved. When viewed in Public, the Group field heading shows up as well as the field’s value. After clearing that multiselect field and saving, Public still shows the Group heading with no values. This happens in testbp as well. Thanks.

MemberThank you very much for the prompt reply! I think I understand what you’re getting at; each family member would sign up with their own account, and become a member of the group, correct?
However, there are a few reasons why that would complicate matters: for one thing, my site will have paid memberships, so it would be preferable if a single family could use one membership. Also, I had planned on members being able to create sub-profiles for their pets.
I believe I have fixed the ‘Name’ problem by simply changing the field names. Thank you for the help, @qrahaman! It’s greatly appreciated!
So now my only problem is the links…

Participant@TammyM Should show up in dashboard menu Appearance > BP Compatibility if both BuddyPress and BP Template Pack plugins are activated. What versions of BP and template pack plugins are you using?

MemberOk problem solved. After some more research I found out that the problem was with my php memory limit. I initially tried to simply change the memory limit by adding define (‘WP_MEMORY_LIMIT’,’128M’); to wp-config. That didnt work. But after completely deleting BuddyPress, raising the memory limit in wp-config, the re-uploading BuddyPress, everything seems to be working.
