nicola if you create this plugin and want to publicize on BuddyPress Italy site u’re welcome.

Another member of BP IT staff is coding a plugin to invite friends from other social network and contact from the mail account like gmail, msn, ecc.

I was thinking kind of how gmail, in its early days, gave each new users 100 invites to send to people and you could only join the network through the invites.

I found this plugin for regular WP installs, Release Plus, https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/register-plus/, that has a lot of the functionality I’m thinking about but doesn’t mesh with Andy’s invite system. Would be great to have something that plays nice with BuddyPress.

I’ve been looking around in the css files.

In buddypress-home > css, I found custom-sample.css. The comment in the file says to rename it as custom.css and put style changes in that file.

This way style changes will be preserved even while updating the buddypress-home theme.

This is the answer I needed and I’m posting it in case it will help someone else too. Thanks, Andy, for enabling this through your file structure.

set permissions on files in buddypress-member/css they are still returning 404s.

    #34423

    It’s still not working.

For example, when I go here:

    http://blogpeoria.org/members/admin/

    there is no style sheet.

I have looked all over the BuddyPress files for every css and js file and changed the permission to 755.

Any particular place I should be looking?

I updated to 721 this morning, hoping to get the group forums running. They appear of course, but won’t post a new topic – the generic message “There was an error posting that topic.” appears, which doesn’t help me troubleshoot. Reading through the thread here, I’m not much clearer on the solution.

WPMU, BBPress, and BuddyPress all installed and running, with integrated logins (the whole salt thing).

I’m wondering if I should have something different entered in the “Group Forum Settings.” I started with the ‘admin’ username and password, which is set to “Key Master” rights in bbPress. I then tried it with a different username set to “Administrator” rights in bbPress, but still no forum joy.

Any pointers on this? I need a pinch more black art here…

So here’s the weird thing now. I tried registering on the site with different email addresses; including hotmail, gmail, yahoo, ones I host, and ones hosted at various hosting companies. None of them receive and email. If I grab the activation key from the database and manually type in the activation URL, then that user is activated and then sent the activation email, along with any followup emails.

I had two friends try it, and it worked perfectly for both of them.

I got a hosting account the other day with asmallorange just to play with buddypress, so I’m not able to check the mail logs without submitting a support ticket to their tech support, so I have no clue whether the emails in question are actually leaving the server.

The ‘news’ button only works if the home theme is running on blog id 1. Sounds like it isn’t. You have to hack some stuff to get it to work. If you are comfortable changing the code in the home theme then it’s here:

    if ( $current_blog->blog_id > 1 )
    return false;

lines 59/50 in themes/buddypress-home/functions.php. Comment those out and news works.

Yep, got the connection problems solved but probably won’t have time to test much today. I see what you’re saying but we’re integrating WordPress and bbPress and need the cookies to sync. If we can get everything talking properly between WPMU and bbPress it will make any problems we encounter BuddyPress specific. I’m not sure if the plugin works with WPMU, I’m assuming it does but it doesn’t specify either way.

Well. I spend a lot of hours this weekend and i found out: trunk r664 + bbpress alpha 3 + wpmu trunk 1574 works for me an the forum works for new groups (not for the old one). If i update to the latest buddypress trunk (r682), i can´t post in to a forum – and i get no error messages. Nothing happens also with bbpress alpa 4 and the latest buddypress trunk (r682).

I am new to bbPress but not WP and have BuddyPress moving along nicely. If BP already has forums for each group then why do we need bbPress? Added forum functionality vis a vis a replacement of the BP forums or do both coexist side by side in BP?

It’s entirely permissions. Make sure everything in the theme and any JS/CSS in buddypress is 755.

Try increasing the permissions on the home theme css file (http://wearelabor.com/wp-content/themes/buddypress-home/style.css)

Same here bebopcool, I’m running the new bbPress zip and the trunk WPMU and BuddyPress and have successfully integrated users but can’t get the cookies to work, which I assume is what’s preventing the forum from working. I too have the forum on the group page, but posting on fails.

I can login with my admin account and the new bbpress admin and post directly to the forum but it doesn’t seem to be communicating with BuddyPress.

    bdpress trunk 658

    wpmu trunk 1574

    bbpress : alpha 3

burtadsit thanks for the info about .hataccess file in bbpress it is ok now for user profile

i gave the admin status to the buddypress forum user

and o also upgraded to bbpress alpha 3

but still not working : the forum is created but i cannot post

it seems i have a pb with cookie integration because a user logged with bdpress is not automatically logged in bbpress but i do not see where….

it tried to post with the bdpress forum user and logged manually with the same user in bbpress but it is still not working

Yeah, BuddyPress is definitely seems appropriate for this project. Most everything you mentioned is already in BP or in the works. Even if it’s not, WPMU is easy enough to build on that you could add any remaining features easily.

To be clear I’m using the latest WPMU and r658 of BuddyPress. Also, though I said above member-themes didn’t work when I followed the readme instructions and so I moved it to wp-content/themes/, I’ve since moved it back to follow the readme instructions exactly. Things still not looking right. Help?

I agree. I would consider throwing in a few bucks. Their are a few plugins already created that work with MU, however they need to be buddypress friendly.
