In reply to: Simple Way to Enable Image posting in Forums
Julia_B
ParticipantThanks shanebp. I have installed that plugin but it seems to only allow images to be posted as attachments. I have posted in the bbpress forum so hopefully someone will help, but from searching through it looks like lots of people have asked the same question and got no reply, which seems to indicate it’s not possible. Looks like I may have to choose another platform for my site. Shame, it seems such a basic thing. I appreciate your help.

Agreed.
Because BuddyPress and bbPress are two separate plugins, don’t expect BuddyPress to address this issue.
I’ve never used it, but try the free version of

ParticipantI’ve been working on my first BuddyPress site last couple of weeks so stumbling around forum posts quite a lot.
You’ve probably already found a fix @thecorkboard but I used the “bp_get_activity_css_class” to strip out the “mini” class when not required.

ParticipantThanks Shanebp. Seems like a pretty basic function – most people using forums expect to be able to insert images into their posts nowadays. Any plans to include this in Buddypress? Sounds like it’s going to be tricky to get it work with those plugins.

ParticipantIt is not an issue, it is intended so !
The logged user’s profile tab comes with 3 sub menus:
– View (public)
– Edit (private)
– Change avatar (private)On the main navigation of the member, you have at least
– Settings with 3 sub nav items:
– account credential (email, password)
– notifications
– field visibility settingsAnd if component is activated:
– Friends
– Groups
– ForumI agree that this Setting is confusing, at least, because those labels should indicate My Friends, My Groups, My Forums and My profile fields visibility settings, which is too long i grant you. π
FYI: such distinction wern’t really possible untill now in the original english version.
But the upcomming BP 2.1 brings some better context disambiguation just to improve such situation. To solve this today, you can:
1) create a translation file and modify the wording (but, as said, without disambiguation)
2) use a child theme and hardcode the text you want into the template file (best approach)
3) wait a few days for 2.1 to use the first optionSeptember 4, 2014 at 10:18 am #189596In reply to: Searching Members Results Screen – Issue with links
danbp
Participantno worry about your english, mine is not perfect either.
We are here on a buddypress support forum and it is probably clear to everybody that we essentialy talk about BuddyPress and that the most of us know (more or less) how to use and manipulate it.
The problem is that if you want something to be replicated, you have to do it in the same condition as the user telling about an issue. In your issue description, the important thing is not the how, but the why.
No ?
Please try to understand that it is important to give at least your WP and BP version and the used theme

danbp
ParticipantI don’t understand why you obstinatly want to write bios on wordpress (inactive when BP is activated) when you can do that with xprofile !
On the register page you have a single line text area field. Why don’t you use a multiline area for doing this ?
field type = Multi-line Text Area.
Entered text will then appear on user’s profile !The function you want to use cannot work, as it contain errors.
Sorry to tell, but I think you have to learn some php and buddypress handling before going to reinvent the wheel or making things you don’t really understand.
Some good reads here, and many others on the forum.
September 3, 2014 at 6:31 pm #189554In reply to: [Resolved] Sort user list by last name
danbp
ParticipantCheck your child-theme functions.php file.
At the begin of the file you should have an opening php tag
<?php
on the third line you add Shane’s function. The file must be used without ending php tag
?>So if you added one after the function, remove it.other possibility:
you entered the snippet with help of a text editor like Word or Sublime or…
Bad idea ! Use a notepad editor or any other raw text editor. And at least, be always aware that php uses mostly straight cotes. In your case, until you confirm, it was the quotes !
Here is your code, with the right quotes in place:
if ( bp_has_members( bp_ajax_querystring( 'members' ) . '&type=alphabetical' ) ) :To write code with a text editor, you have to encode and/or save it in UTF-8 without BOM format.
And the best for the end:
when you publish code on this ofrum don’t use the php tags, and in any case, use the code buttonso it can be viewed in a proper format and won't mess up the whole forum.Thank you !
September 3, 2014 at 2:06 pm #189035In reply to: Why the rudeness?
@mercime
Participant@alraj101 Sorry that you feel that way, I’m certain that it was not meant to be rude. Please know that we’re all volunteers who come from different countries and have different ways of expressing ourselves, thanks for your patience.
As per responses by danbp and another in the thread about Divi support, I recall that Divi is not compatible with BP per previous topics posted in the BP forums. So at this point, I’d reiterate the replies of the other volunteers to contact the premium theme author as we have no access to that theme or, hire a developer to ID the issue and/or make the theme compatible with BP.

Q. 4:
BuddyPress wordings can easily be changed by using a language file, even if your site is in english.Q.2:
When buddypress is activated with the xprofile component, the wordpress register form is not used, except for username, password and email part.
xprofile let you extend this wp form. And if you need a bio field, you create multiline text field and call it Biography. So simple as that.Q.3
https://wordpress.org/plugins/buddypress-followers/Q.1
no comprendo ! What do you mean exactly ?Latest WP and BP maybe enough for a daily forum usage. But imagine people reading your topic in 6 mounth or in 2 years… Give the version number please. And give also the used theme type/name.

ParticipantI can confirm that I have the same issue. Admin users can see all groups, including the hidden groups, but the hidden groups are invisible for regular members in the BP Groups Widget.

danbp
Participantremember that you are on a buddypress support, not a divi or any other theme support.
If your install is working correctly with 2014 and not with divi, it is not a buddypress issue, but a theme issue.Likewise, you use a premium theme and it’s just impossible for us to help you on this point, as we have no access to such theme. And you probably can understand that we cannot buy them, just in case of to help some users. Premium themes generally include support in the licence.
So please take contact with the author.
You can also search the forum. I am certain that you can figure this out in a sec. Too.

September 1, 2014 at 7:03 am #188857In reply to: How do you make Site Activity page RANDOM?
danbp
ParticipantIt seems to focus on Members random page.
Ya, but only seems. The codex is not a ready-to-use answer to any kind of problematic or the solution for anything, but a guide who explains how things can/should be done with BuddyPress.
That’s why you’ll find essentially examples who can be used to extend or achieve your projects.Codex pages are written by volonteers (like you tomorrow ?), and none of them is able to know or to write about any given issue, situation, need.
It certainly would be an awesome codex, if every BP user would share some snipppet or simply some experience, by adding his personnal how-to…
Hold on ! You have to try, experiment and realize yourself. The other face of freedom and open source, i guess
If you have questions, do not hesitate. Like the codex, this forum is yours. π

Looks like a temporary solution with zero-cyrillic-usageAugust 31, 2014 at 9:45 pm #188838pooledge
ParticipantThank you Denis! Let me confirm this issue with better explanation in English.
If bbPress forum slugs are in cyrillic, following is happening while replying on some topic:
Let’s say I have set “ΡΠ΅ΠΌΠ°” instead of “topic” and my new topic’s title is “Π’Π΅ΠΌΠ° Π½Π° ΡΡΡΡΠΊΠΎΠΌ” (“Topic in russian”). This topic’s url looks like http://www.myawsomenewforum.ru/ΡΠ΅ΠΌΠ°/ΡΠ΅ΠΌΠ°-Π½Π°-ΡΡΡΡΠΊΠΎΠΌ/ and shows up just fine. Now let’s post a reply.
After hitting the “Reply” button an answer hash is being added just for a moment, following by redirect to the topic URL but already without “ΡΠ΅ΠΌΠ°” in it. It gets stuck with a redirect loop on http://www.myawsomenewforum.ru//ΡΠ΅ΠΌΠ°-Π½Π°-ΡΡΡΡΠΊΠΎΠΌ/
After manual reload http://www.myawsomenewforum.ru/ΡΠ΅ΠΌΠ°/ΡΠ΅ΠΌΠ°-Π½Π°-ΡΡΡΡΠΊΠΎΠΌ/ shows the answer on its place.
Thank you.

Participantit’s an old topic related to BP 1.7. And @mercime already answered to the same question as yours.
Read about troubleshooting on the BP Codex.FYI wp codex gives also general advice on how to debug. You may also find many related topics on this forum.
Please open a new topic and give your install type, theme name and used plugin and explain your problem, when it arrived, what you already tried, etc

KeymasterHi @pauldewouters, welcome to the BuddyPress forums.
Sounds like this discussion should be moved to a Trac ticket, if someone would like to do that.
I’m not familiar enough with this part of the code to know if this is a good way to fix the problem, but I know a man who does: @imath – hello. π
August 28, 2014 at 8:02 am #188617danbp
Participantis there a better way to do it?
If you expect some help, you have to tell what you already did on the way you mention.
As you built your own theme, you perhaps use this function outside of the bbPress scope ?
What does it give by using get_avatar() ?Do you read this bbPress codex page ?
Maybe better you ask on bbPress forum β remember although bbPress is a standalone plugin, integrated with buddyPress.
